hi ...here is a posting of what Steve has..forgot that he has this stash ..it is used gear ,but cheaper than new [in terms of the shuttle points ..a number of folks get them repointed with brazing ?bronze or something like that ..just to keep the machine going without spending too much money] http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=49831 ...new stuff is available from Aaron Martin in Canada :hence my quote to the seller of the Pearson #6 on trade me [postage from Aaron M' in Canada is also expensive as they use premium registered post ]

Landis Regular Lock Stitch Wax Thread Sewing Machine
gordond replied to Bruce Evans's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
nice! job, Bruce. I wax the polished steel on my machines....with 85% humidity here, these bits rust real fast without some form of treatment [but oil the in-contact steel components]. Have had in-contact parts nickel electroplated [bed ,needle plates- but is expensive] I'd prefer to put the wax pot back on if it was my machine- just in case I lose it [i'm still cursing losing parts off my Singer 97] -
BUSM HM6 lettering before and after ..
gordond commented on gordond's gallery image in Our Leatherwork Galleries
hi Steve... thanks!..the 97 do-over had been on the overdue list for awhile.it will take sometime to complete the missing parts on this machine..the aim first will be to get it to a ready to use state.I am going to build a new stand with a heavy lower flywheel [to up the torque/punching power]. haven't seen here any specific no.6's made for New Zealand or elsewhere..have wondered if there were any made for South Africa ,India or Asia? cheers Gordon -

Restoration work on the Singer 97-6..so far. Aspects of this was to also overhaul the drive train as a routine maintenance exercise and to get a handle on the missing and broken parts. However ; the machine does work quite well. There are a few parts that will have to be made, [lube box, back cover, tensioner overhaul and the missing lower needle guide].....which will be underway with a new stand/rebuild. Now that the volatile paint work is done in the workshop; I can return back to welding mode.© gordondnz2013

sorry I can't vouch for this company, but had considered buying off them sometime ago- but their feedback put me off.And I wanted a machine where I could put in interchangeable typeset : - having the flexibility of changing typeset was a dealmaker for me. this is something you may want to consider.[the amount of personalised items I was asked for did lend to getting a machine with this feature] I have used large production hotprinters many years ago [9+ hour day use printing plastic bags and they were finnicky in their own way...had a guy there just to tune/fix them] I purchased a Kingsley locally [@220V] at a very good price.then purchased a lot of Kingsley hot printer typeset off ebay. I subsequently purchased 2 more hotprinters [Danish made?]locally and I am assured by an electrician that the heating unit is quite easy to repair if they ever need to be[hence not too pricey].But that hasn't been put to the test. this one you are looking at looks cheap, but may be "OK".... however with this gear you get what you pay for and I would definitely want local tech support [and part availability]..but then; the price reflects that?.I just don't get how that this same gear is priced so wildly over ebay[looks like a rort on ebay's commissions with the varied shipping price]

I picked up a Adler 205-64 in a job lot recently. It was jammed stuck solid- I would have placed $ on betting that something was broken inside the machine. I just happened to have some triflow ,removed access panels and dosed the parts inside.but ATF/acetone ,Kroil, and the other brews all work [ATF & brews are much cheaper though] Initially nothing -- then realised the sticking part was the presser foot height mechanism [fine threads rusted solid]..this cleaned up and a redose and away it went. as you said, it will take a bit of feel ,wiggling and listening to where the issue is.

thanks ..definitely worth putting on the list. -
in regard to 97x3 ..have posted this a few times before... Groz Beckert ,Germany: circa 2008 97x3: sku :703762 97x3 size 250 [27] Available 3,800 needles sku: 702412 97x3 size 280 [28] Available 8,100 needles sku: 703772 97x3 size 300 [29] Available 2,100 needles Price: 109 Euro/100 [Germany]. no 97x4 left [note: Maico in Mexico has none..I know --I phoned in 2008 and asked them...fortunately my Spanish was good enough to get hold of an English speaker..very helpful man and kind enough to get in contact with Groz and they helped with the info] There were a few 97X3 held in the US that I was aware of...... but it has been awhile since I last checked . I would still like to split 100 unit packs with anyone who is interested. [27's and 28's] note ..I have seen other 97x needles for sale ;but found out they were 2-3/4" long. [this is incorrect as we know...97's are 3" inch long] As Steve said,Schmetz 1000H is being used [longer than the 97x?],however it is a scarfed roundpoint needle ,stock of size 29,30 were showing. 1000H's are also on the endangered or extinct species list

Hi Steve....could I be so bold in asking what you would estimate to ship this machine to Australia [well um ..New Zealand]?? I have a lead here, just in today, in part container space shipping into NZ [one on one deal- not through a broker -so may cut some cost]. But I'm really uncertain about crating and long haul road freight. We sort of guestimated ~NZD$2000-2500 ? depending on how close it was to the main export wharves. cheers

for Steve... before and after lettering.. [using magnifying goggles]..the lettering was engraved and reshaped with a dremel - carbide tip ie/. recut "the holes in the "o"s and the "d"s. then the top of the lettering was sanded or filed flat... any holes were filled with Pratley's 2 part steel putty....fortunately not too much..I wasn't keen to braze or lead fill these [cast iron and heat issues]© gordond nz

Patent elastic patcher ..detail
gordond commented on gordond's gallery image in Our Leatherwork Galleries
hi Steve..thanks! for the compliment..[good for the ego and all that].. the double star was going to done via my vinyl cutter [design on a PC]..but it was taking too long ,so resorted to protractor ,ruler and frisket film.the first silver star[sectioned mask] was applied and a airbrush held at the wheel centre and wheel turned slowly whilst applying the copper wash. the gold star -a full mask overlay and this is where it got messy..too much paint lift.[and real shonky alignment on my part] I will post the HM6 detail with an explanation about the worn lettering. -

Hi Steve no offense taken...no worries..I intended to clip my avatar description for awhile. nah.. your posts sound fine to me. Likewise ,I have the same story..machinery ;when and only when you could find it, the price was #@!!!. thinking back in ~1984 saw an old Pearson for ?$7500 and that was a good deal[ it did sell for that and fast] I saw Black Dogg's post and have just downloaded the German manuals will email you thanks
