Ok still thinking of a leather jacket and or maybe a double breasted waist coat, instead of using buttons could I actually use sam brown buttons to hold the leather in place..or would a more traditional button work better?
-
Ok have this idea in my thick skull that is rattling around, of doing a tooled leather jacket (once I find a pattern and figure out how to adjust said pattern to fit me, or figure out how to draw one up for myself) but the question I have is what kind of tooling leather would be the best to use? I know I can't do a chrome tanned one as that wont fly but if you went with say an 8 or 9 oz leather you would be walking around like spongue bob square pants unable to move your arms either raised or lowered I would thing lol. So what would be the "best" leather thickness or should I tell the idea to take a flying leap lol.

Is the leather going to be on top and bottom of the corset or going vertically along the boning?

Nothing wrong with a little over kill especially as this damn threading is sliding free, over time mind you but still want's to try and free itself just a little. Going to be a real hassle to fix the flap on the bag as I am going to have to undo part of the rolled top, pull the linning free alittle so I can restitch the flap as I do not want any thread marks showing in the lining. Thanks for the advice!

Ok started to use carrage hemp threading, really like the feel of this stuff and its pretty damn strong but here is the problem that I am running into. I am hand stitching, saddle stitch and back stitching 5 holes, yet my wife started to use one of the tote bags I have until I get around to fixing her old purse (which I think is nearly as old as I am lol) and we have noticed that the threading is starting to come undone. Normally with the wax thread I use I just burn it off at the end and that stops it from slipping back though the holes, so how can I keep the hemp from slowly undoing itself or do I need to go back to using a waxed thread?

Teue enough but currently have the strap attached via rivets and those are a pain in the ass to remove so going with another strap

Actually have to change the design a little bit, have to add a cross strap to it, seems the strap going down the middle is not wide enough, DOH, as it lets the bottle slide free if it shifts to the left or the right lol, ah well this is why its called a prototype!

Got a little bored and decided to try the wood burner on leather, did a bit of latin and let it fade out as if the person either did not finish in time before the monster struck or was doing it as the monster attacked...still trying to figure out how to give leather a fired look, litteraly as if it was pulled form a fire or something like that with out actually damaging the leather, I will figure this one out lol but not bad for scrap just laying around that I did mot want to throw away. And good practice for the wood burner

Hmmm will have yo give that a try but how to keep the soot in place with out it rubbing off.. will have to try that!! -
So I want to give a piece of leather a look like it has been salvaged by a fire with out actually damaging the leather..or at least not damaging it a lot, have tried a lighter and all that does after burning the leather it cracks the hell out of it and makes it actually a bit harder to bend, which is not what I am going after. Trying to give some straps that worn survived a hell of a fire fight kind of look to it. Any ideas?

Now that is very cool!!! I really like that! -
Thankfully I am near DeeWhy so we did not get hit that hard, just a bit of wild weather and a little rain and that was it. Will give the bottle holder a test run in a day or two. Was thinking about putting a strap over top but figured before long I would get pissed off and just cut it off as it would get in the way of the bottle lol.

Got a little bored still had a bit of scrap leather so figured what the hell might as well try this. Really tired of trying to get my water bottle out of my back pack when going for walks and we are getting into summer time here pretty soon so figured I would try and make a leather water bottle carrier that fits on my belt. My wife really hates that dye job on the center piece personally I really love it. Told her she is not the one that is using it I am and happy with it. I think the dye job brings parts of the leather out that you would not normally seen. By the way done with super sheen and black antique gel just not letting the super sheen dry over night only let it sit for about a half hour while I finished the tooling. Don't feel like uploading all the pictures but here is a near step by step of doing it just uploaded the photos to imgur http://imgur.com/gallery/qzBvf

really nice though I am assuming the chainmail is anodized aluminium stainless will hold up better, but smart to do a full persin design on the chainmail that is a very strong weave. -

Got bored Saturday figured I would try and do a Mexican round braid as this was the first time ever trying it, I figured a bracelet would be the easiest way to go about doing it. Even used a cab that I had laying around. Lace is kangaroo and the piece of leather holding the cab in place (both cab and leather piece are glued ) is sheep skin
