Ok my "talent" if you want to call it that lol has gotten me into a little trouble, Showed my dad this waistcoat that I am currently working on (can't finish it until after the 5th thanks to supplier of lace going on vactation!! http://imgur.com/a/MoIWL url if anyone is interested) he really likes the Mexican round braid work that I have done, and now he has this bright idea of doing this to a bar stool...or maybe a round cushion...thank the powers that be that I can use upholstery leather for this one, though he is talking about having me tool one as well and my tooling is no where good enough for something like that, I am getting there but to be honest tooling is not my strong suit currently maybe later on down the track but for now I am okish, told him I had NO clue how to even start something like that but someone here might be able to help me, either a youtube tutorial a book tutorial ANYTHING to help just get the pattern, the braid work is easy enough for me to do have that down pat thanks to working with nearly 200 feet of lace for ONE waistcoat lol. So where the hell do I start other then with the pattern and how do I figure out how much leather I would need and all that good jazz!! Thanks

There are actually a lot of tutorials on youtube about how to make leather roses you might want to look at one of these.

I do not think its pig skin, looks more like buck or MAYBE cow but doesn't look like pig skin to me, and as for using pig skin as a liner that one is pretty easy hell to be honest it MIGHT even be suede or lamb honestly do not think its pig though.

Ok I have a pattern that I want to make wider, want to keep how tall it is the same just need to add about 2 cms to it or so (prototyping here) what is the best way to go about it as this pattern is already in a pdf file (grabbed it from tandy just needs to be a little wider for what I want) and not overly sure what is the best way to go about doing this.

Smart phone holster

Thanks for that wife suggested a thinner liner might fix the issue as well will try that with the next one right now using the holster to hold my Stanley knife lol -
Ok found this pattern some where, think it might have been off tandy's leather library and got bored enough to play around with it, I need to widen the design a little to make it fit my Samsung galaxy S5 other then that came out pretty good, only problem is the liner so maybe one of you can help me, when I stitched it all together the liner bubbled on me a fair bit, its easy to smooth it out when you jam something in to it (currently have my stanly knife in it just because I can lol) I did glue and stitch the whole liner in as one piece, and glued the hell out of it, to stop this from happening would I be better off NOT gluing all of the liner and just glue the outer edges or instead of one whole piece make it to pieces and leave the middle part uncovered? http://imgur.com/gallery/UHhqU (being lazy and do not want to resave and resize the photos lol)

Ok have done a few searches here and there are some great sites on how to make buttonholes but I really do not like the look of it I do not think it will suit this http://imgur.com/a/MoIWL so are there other options other then just a cutting a slit for it, I really do not like the double square look like this jacket has. So any ideas as I am trying to go for a professional look (and yeah first waistcoat/vest that I have ever done, still have a LOT of lacing left do to!)

Selecting leather for the back of a CHAINMAILLE vest
Windrider30 replied to canemaker's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
This is a great idea or you could do what was suggested for my leather waist coat use BOTH veg tanned and garment leather. Do the back out of garment leather and the make a panel/s out of veg tanned tool it then stitch the panel to the garment leather -

FINALLY done with the outer edge took 95 feet worth of lace!!!! took a pick of the neck and collar area http://imgur.com/a/MoIWL using lace from the scrap garment leather that I made the vest from, for the arm holes as I want to protect the edge but I want a softer lace to protect the clothing I will be wearing UNDER the waistcoat! -
Hand stitching type? (not saddle for sure)
Windrider30 replied to mayorblurps's topic in Sewing Leather
As stated its a simple back stitch which to be honest should never be used in leather work (in my opionion) UNLESS you are working with really thin leather, and hell even then I still use the saddle stitch just have to stop myself from pulling as hard as I do. I personally prefer the saddle stitch over anything because if you accidently cut one of the threads,no big deal as I used waxed thread just melt the part that broke and go along with your day. Same with a lockstitch do not like them because of how easy the project can break on you. And for something that is going to get a daily useage saddle stitch, which by the way if we can now claim a stitch as our "own brand" then all you best bugger off cuse I am calling the saddle stitch!!!, is way stronger and way smarter to use. and honestly it's just as fast as doing a back stitch -

Selecting leather for the back of a CHAINMAILLE vest
Windrider30 replied to canemaker's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
You could use 3 ot 4 oz veg tan leather for your backing, and as for stiffness as it is armour a little stiffness will not hurt you as the chainmail itself will be flowing so it SHOULD counter act the stiffness in the leather. Personally I would not go any thicker then 3 to 4 oz veg tan leather, and you can't use garment leather to tool on. -
how do you guys manage leather dust and avoid exposure?
Windrider30 replied to thekid77's topic in How Do I Do That?
on the glue note I have stopped using rubber and contact cement, I am now hooked on Eco-flo leather weld. Its a water based contact glue looks like elmers glue almost. you apply it while its wet to one or both sides (I do both pieces) apply pressure while its wet and wait for it to dry which doesn't take too long to set. two bonuses to it A: water baised great for the environment and safe around the moron dogs that currently live with me and B: no smell!
