  1. slide two d rings over the belts, folded the end over both d-rings and just rebraided the end into the belt itself, a bit of a pain figuring out that part
  2. Kangaroo lace for the whisky belt all 6 strands ( you fold them in half to make the 12 strands) were 9 feet 10 inches. The black and white is again kangaroo and the 6 strands are 12 feet in length
  3. Thanjs for this some food for thought!!
  4. Ok going to be making another corset soon, but I want to try and wet molde it to the manquine that I have. The real questions are A: how long should I leave it in place to dry? B: Thinking of doing some tooling on it, should I wet modle it first, let it dry then do the tooling? As if I remember right when wet molding you can stretch out the tooling. oh and C: dying the leather before or after the wet molding?
  5. That is now on the table as the last project that I want to finish before I really start getting into more braiding.
  6. Yep I do not like the idea of using a buckle to punch though the braiding, even if its kangaroo just wont last as long as the d-rings will, and the d-rings work just as well as the buckle.
  7. The hard part is getting the damned tip started, once that is out of the way it is pretty smooth sailing. First brown belt each of the 6 strands were 9 foot 10 inches long, black and white the 6 strands are 12 feet in length, the white one took way longer then I thought it would. lots of pics so put it up on imgur
  8. Which leather is better for them rawhide latago or kangaroo? I am in Australia so roo hide is rather cheap i mean i can get 350 feet of 1/8th lace for about 110 bucks which includes shipping. I am on a braiding kick of late lol.
  9. its coming along but got sidelined for now working on another friction belt a black and white one at the time

    Tulawaka

looks good to me though the cracker might need to be a little tighter wound but that is the only thing I can see.
  11. looks great to me!
  12. Great job for not doing anything like this for 25 years! better then what I can do that is for sure, really like it!
  13. Thanks! I always hit my end product with aussie conditioner really helps it
  14. THanks for that will look into it, I simply use aussie condistioner on the strands when braiding seems to help and preserve them all at the same time! The tip is where I really need to work on as it came out just a hair weird
  15. close up of the weave did have one strand go little wonky but over all not bad!! a simple over one under one weave the tricky part was just getting the tip started and getting the tention set right!
  16. Took almost 60 feet of lace to do this, the belt keeper is woven into the belt and that is a 4 strand weave. it will fit a waist of up to 36 inches. First one that I have ever done. The tip went a little wonky but not bad for a first go!
  17. I really like the look of that!!!
  18. Thanks for the great idea all I am going to be working on a bracelet first with this idea in mind just to see if I can get it to look right will post end product when I get it done!
  19. The idea is not to have to replace the leather as I do not want a lot of stitch lines showing up, nor do I want a different look behind the chainmail. Just want to hollow out a small section of the leather. Unfortintally I do not own one, that and I have this damned fool idea stuck in my hand that any leather items I make are done by hand with only hand tools
  20. yep basicly inlay it and I was hoping there might be a faster way then using a French skiver...had not thought about using a chisel though might have to give that some go on some scrap I have.
  21. ohh I like that, right now I am doing a conquistador belt myself might just have to try that style belt though looks nice as well, how did you get the triangle end though?
  22. Ok need some help from you lovely folks. I have an idea to make a leather corset, the corset part is not the issue made around 6 or so (don't remember off hand how many) THis will be a 4 to 5 oz veg tanned leather, tooled, (still playing with the idea of the tooling) but I want to add a little chainmail to this. Now the idea that is in my head is to embed the chainmail into the one or two panels of the corset. WHILE keeping the leather backing. SO the question I have is how do I go about carving a small section out of the leather so I can rest the chainmail (dragonweave I'm thinking about) into the actual leather? Basicly want to make a box shape scoop SOME of the leather out but leave a little leather for the chainmail to sit in, kind of like when you see the cheeszy movies where the hero carves out a few pages of a book to hide a gun in the book, looking for that kind of idea. Hope that is a little clearer than mud lol.
  23. I use pig skin for linners on wallets and it holds great
