  1. Ok I am going to be doing a waistcoat soon going to do a mix of garment leather (for the main body) going with a little heavier leather for the pockets as I am going to do a little tooling and thinking of doing a bit of lace work on the back (to cover the seam) and maybe the edges where the front is. The question I have is that I am thinking of using conchos for the buttons so which would be better, screw back conchos or rivet back conchos?
  2. Yep even now knowing the price of the gear i would still sell it for between 80 to 90 no lower than 75 it is that nice and would sell pretty easy i think
  3. How much did the conchos cost? i would say off hand with out knowing the cost i would say and easy 80 to 90 dollars
  4. My wife is laughing over the sissy juice spills comment!
  5. Just looked at their website rather frustrating everything or a good chunk of what I like is sold out arg especially as I have a waist coat in mind that I want to make!
  6. Thanks will have to give them a look and see what their prices are like and if they ship interstate as I am in nsw but always on the look out for another supplier other hten tandy. Have a great supplier for roo.
  7. I really like this idea. has given me an idea for some cosplay bracelets!
  8. I have problems with my hands so gloves are not an option for me (lose feeling in them from time to time or they simply let go of what ever I am holding which can be "interesting" when working with knives..main reason I do NOT use a headknife!!) so I will have to deal with using pliars from time to time to pull the needles though and deal with trying not to bleed on the leather lol! And the thread is not that thin its not bad for waxed though actually. Yeah agreed with the letting people know that it is embossed as I do not want them thinking they got ripped off and thanks for the help with the pricing I HATE setting the price on things lol now to find a customer that likes it lol. Where is EastCoast leather at?
  9. this is the thread I use or something similar at any rate https://www.tandyleather.com.au/en/product/sewing-awl-thread-270-yds-247-m mind you I use the saddle stitch not an awl stitcher (cant stand using lock stitches to be perfectly honest) but it works great for two leather needles, love how the needles are "dull" yet I can still draw blood with them blood hell that hurts hwen you do it! I agree looks really nice love the white if they had this in a whole hide I might have bought it to be perfectly honest! And thank you by the way now I just have to figure out a good price thinking around the 60 AUD mark
  10. Bought a bag for rements from tandy which I had forgotten about, then stumbled across them while cleaning my work area up, amazing what you find when you clean up a disaster area lol. Anyways this is a white veg tanned embossed cow leather and misson pigskin that I found as well. All hand stitched, this came out rather nice I think, can't make up my mind if I want to use a dark edge paint on it or not. more pics here http://imgur.com/gallery/Wrlwe
  11. Have seen a couple of bracelets with a ribbon of sorts running though the middle so figured what the hell would give it a go both turned out pretty nice. close up of one here are the urls for all the images that I took with my phone steampunk themed : http://imgur.com/gallery/xHAXa http://imgur.com/gallery/5eE5b
  12. Thanks all that will help greatly!
  13. one big problem with springfield leather....I am in Australia lol
  14. here is a video I stumbled across on the gaucho lacing I am using it more for looks then support so it might look good on a pair of chaps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn9l_dCJDEU&list=PLpkKTVQ8_1d8E8imKH1TbxJcVivVce0OM&index=18
  15. I plan on doing a Mexican round along the upper edge using roo lace very soft lace and yeah the double loop takes way less time, also planning on doing a gaucho lacing along the seams or at least that is the plan running around in my head currently for the next corset I make.
  16. Have you tried Tandy's montania hides feel in love with it, very soft feel and real easy to work with.
  17. holy crap!! Love the whole thing especially the braiding for some reason I am drawn to braiding..may have to figure out how to add some to a corset or two.
  18. Ok I have yet to give up on the idea of doing a tooled waist coat, BUT unforitnatly I think I may have to do it panelled, not what I had in mind but I might have to do that, but here is the question that I have. For a waist coat, or jerkin how large of a piece of a hide do I need, I am think I would need at least a double shoulder as I do not think a single shoulder would work.
  19. The theading that i am using is hemp really does not need the wax. have tried it with wax still slips a bit. i have and always will back stitch at least 5 time i prefer to be cautious.
  20. I will have to look into it but i do not want to just stamp i am thinking full tooling swivel knife and all
  21. So far the idea is to make an actual waist coat instead of a full jacket might be just a tad easier though not sure if i will make a double breasted waist coat or a normal on. as for pattern will be sharing that idea in a few days. will do a little tooling on some scrap.
  22. Yeah i know the 2 to 3 oz won't work well as it is way to thin and its way to easy to cut through even with stamps
  23. I hand sew everything but what i use is either contact cement and let it sit over night or my preferred method as i am impatient is double sided tape that tandy used really love that stuff...though falling in love with tandy's water based contact cement
  24. Thanks dwight i saw the veg tan you mentioned from tandy and was wondering if you could use that as well will have to give yhem a call. Biker i had that same thought about the thinner leather, great idea about using a back patch will keep that in mind as well.
