    Hello Again

Thank you so much for the welcome. Since my store is in a warehouse area without heavy traffic I still do a lot of horse shows and rodeos, gun shows and motorcycle shows. In order for people to know where Im at. I also drive around in a rolling billboard. But most of my time is in the shop cranking out orders so I do spend atleast 10 hours a day at the bench. I do try to photograph everything but sometimes things do leave without me taking a picture. So I will post some soon. The movie stuff I am not allowed to post until its released.

    Hello Again

Hello everyone, my name is Lui and I have been a member here for quite sometime. A couple years ago when I lost my real job I decided to turn my leather work hobby into a full time business. So I rented a brick and mortar and opened a leather supply house and shop. I have been working real hard getting it off the ground and that is the main reason I’ve been out for so long. It’s been a lot of hard work and long hours but, it’s also been very educational and fun. Now things are running much smoother and I actually had time to go to Sheridan this year. Since there is no other places like mine down here we cater to basically everybody. One day we may be working on saddles or motorcycle seats and the next we are doing movie props for the local film industry. Anyway even though I can only spend about an hour a day on the computer I am going to make visiting here part of my routine. Thanks
  3. Well Im back from Sheridan. We got lucky and were running ahead of all the storms and tornadoes. The little Honda Fit we took behaved great and averaged 33 mpg. Went by Mt. Rushmore, Sitting Bull, the Black Hills, Deadwood, Sturgis and a lot of great places. Saw some old friends and met some new ones. Overall had a great time will post pics later once settled.

  4. I just called to make my reservations for Sheridan Wyoming. The lady said its in the 40s now but it should be in the 50s in May. Thats peak winter temps for us down here. Im gonna have to break out the jackets again.

      Sheridan is usually warmer than

50s in late May. I can remember

branding in 90s in late May.

Remember I have an antique phone that has no internet or texting features so call me since I wont be around a computer till next Monday.

  6. Why did I ever get talked into working on an Australian stock saddle?

  7. My name is Lui and I have a leather business in Miami. Even though Ive been a member of the group for a long time its been about a year since Ive been here. Today while checking my favorites I saw the link to LW and wondered why Ive been away so long, so I figured Id say "Hi" and try to come by more often. Anyway hello to all and Im going to check out the topics in this great place.
  8. Thank you guys all very much. I had a kid do the website for me all I did was write the stuff. Since this is all new to me I am taking it slowly after I have the walk in side of the business under controlthen I will be able to maybe start some internet selling and shipping in the meantime I will only be able to handle walk in traffic. On the other hand I am starting to get used to the idea of the stuff you put in the store is for folks to buy and take with them. Lui

    Tooling Dice

Hello Rick, I would bevel the entire perimeter then double bevel the inside edges and kinda mat them towards the outside perimeters. the dots can be done using a plain round seeder. Lui
  10. Hello all. Finally got the store running and the website too. If you want to check it out go to: dleathersupply.com Thanks Lui
  11. The largest piece is the back with a flap that goes over the next largest piece that is the front of the purse. the two widest straps are the gussets. they get laced around the purse and connected at the bottomn. From the slots cut on the flap Im figguring that the small piece is some kinda closure that goes in thru these slots. The long belts are your carry straps. Since I can not see three holes on the panels like on the belt I guess this is some adjustment for the length of carry. The single hole would be to attach together but if this is the case I would mess around and come up with something a little stronger. Hope this helps Lui
  12. Thank you, actually so far they all been cool, actually its cool when you see their faces when they walk in. Their jaw hits the floor from all the displays in here. One of em couldnt believe I was Miami born and raise I just told em I was from the west end of town. Im still waiting on fire though. Lui
  13. Im carrying them both, so come down whenever you want. Its a cool place, I was told to basically carry alot of what you enjoy working with. So Wickett and Craig I got a lot of. the exotics can run into some money but I got a decent stock of it. Then again Henry can have my stuff here the next day on special orders. Anyway since Im in my early days gimme a call before heading here. My number at the store is 305-260-4532 or my cell 305-525-2670 Thanks Lui
  14. If you are comparing apples to apples HideCrafter's line is nicer, look at this picture of 2 figure bevelers side by side the difference is clearly visible. On some others its not as bad but they are still better. Now Hide Crafter also carry higher quality ones including Barry King but the cost would not make them equal contenders. By the way there is also a special group of 15 Hackbarth tools that goes for around 150 that is in my opinion a very good deal. Lui
  15. Ok I finally opened it. Its called Daddy's Leather Supply. Its taken 3 months of hard work but its was worth it, I have learned so much about the leather Industry and have met some great people. Including some thanks to your responses. I also got myself a whole new shop inside the store that totally blows the tool shed I was working from out of the water. Anyway I will be previewing it this Sunday and hopefully will be opened for business sometime next week. Heres a couple of pics. Thanks Lui
  16. Hello Fred the store is Miami Fl. I use to have the place for my Construction Business but seeing how bad the industry was getting I gutted the place and turned it over to this place. I got most of the stuff like slatwalls and pegs from Craigslist and went to work. Three months later I got it stocked and ready to go. Im missing a couple of inspections so instead of a grand opening Im holding an open house type preview this weekend. I will be stocking and selling some very major cool products like CS Osborne, Fiebings, Wickett & Craig etc. I also got exotics like elephant, stingray, shark etc. Also there are two other cool departments in the place one is the new shop I will be working from and the other is an area for finished leather goods where we will have customers put the stuff they make to sell. This area will also have saddles, tack, holsters etc. too. Website should also be done too since I couldnt do much till the place was done. Anyway I think Ill just post the pics here. Thanks Lui
  17. Ok I'm done with my last project. I named it Daddy's Leather Supply. It has taken me 3 months from the demolition stage to the grand preview this Sunday. I wont be able to make any sales yet, due to some licensing issues and hoops I still got to go thru. But it's finally finished. I am very pleased with the whole experience I have met some great folks and companies that I now will be representing. Its been a lot of fun but its also been a lot of work. I will post some pictures tommorrow, I just wanted to see where I could post them, I would love to put them in the show off section but I dont want anyone to think Im sales pitching. Im just so proud of what I have done. Have I already said how fun its been? Anyway I would also like to thank Gustavo from Cuero Arte in Nicaragua for spending all his apprenticeship hours working here with me building the store instead of pounding leather like he wanted to. I promise to post some pictures here tommorrow. Lui
  18. Greetings all, with the way the construction industry is heading and the big 50 a few weeks away I have decided to take the plunge and make a career change. I am currently working on opening a new leather store here in Miami Fla. I will be selling supplies to retail and wholesale as well as finished goods, custom orders and repairs. I also have a lot of vintage tools and stuff that will be selling from here. Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know that if you are a vendor and are looking for distribution and representation down here. Drop me an email so we may start preparing. The place should be ready to open by July first hopefully. I will post some pics when its done. Lui
  19. Very very cool. I love the wood spirits they came out great. Lui
  20. Looks beautiful please post a pic once its done. thanks Lui
  21. Great job, you actually cut and beveled the rope border. Cant wait to see it done. Lui
  22. Good job and good observation, I like the straps on IWB a lot more then the simple clips. A good thing to keep in mind is that these kind of rigs are great for large size guns. On the smaller/shorter guns they need to be sunk in the waist a little more to avoid them tilting over the belt and falling out. On your stitch line observation I make a holster now that I call "one size fits most" and I sell them flat then I instruct people on how to set it for their gun by spraying the inside with water and inserting their UNLOADED Saran Wrapped gun in it and letting it dry. I have sold probably like 70 of them already. I am now experimenting making them with different cants and a cross draw with the same pattern.
  23. I bought my first machine when I was 6 months into leather crafting since from the start I already knew I was not going to do much hand sewing. I met Steve at the Butler Pennsylvania show and bought the 3000 floor model he was setting up at the show. We closed the deal with a handshake and I left with it when the show ended. He has basically held my hand throughout my learning curve and I have no complaints about the machine or Steve and if it ever gives me a problem chances are I will still call Steve for help and when I buy another I will look him up first. Lui
