Hi Mike, I got a heavy one I use for one strike hits on the makers mark, hardware etc. For my carving maul I have the smallest Al Stohlman one to which I added a couple washers to the head for a tad more weight but the one above that one was way too heavy especially if you are going to tool for 5 or 6 hours straight. Hi Art on the link to Cobra machines it looks like Steve from Artisan is standing there. Did he leave Artisan? Lui

Hi Josh, great looking holster, but as it has been mentioned before. Do not use it with anything like a Glock you will be asking for trouble and if its for sale there may be a liability issue too. You can get away using these kinds of holsters on the 1911 single action guns and that is how they were made originally. If you look at pictures of the old Texas Rangers they would carry 1911s in these holsters and depending on what condition you would carry it is pretty safe . But nowadays even most carry 1911 holsters have the trigger covered too. Lui

Very cool seat indeed, I agree with you about the magazine It was the best one out there. I got a buddy of mine that was good friends with the owner and is working on a knucklehead for him. Dont know if the bike is finished I aint seen him in a few months now. and that horse is the coolest, the first MC seat I ever did I carved that horse on it for my buddy he wanted it for the smoke out 7 Lui

Very cool its kinda like a Jerry Garcia dia de los muertos scheme I think the red eyes on the first one is really cool. Is it attached to some sort of wrist band? take care Lui -
Very cool design, If you want something more then glue, maybe try an invisible stitch, try cutting a small slit and run a stich then let the slit cover up the stich and slick and sand, just a thought I wouldnt do it on this one but try it out on a piece of scrap and see if it will work. Great job Lui

Ok thanks, I figured maybe wood between the horns maybe wrap the wood with rawhide to make it all even up then wrap it up. Right? Thanks Lui

Thank you guys very much for the comments, I just gave it to the customer and he was freaking out with it. I love seeing their faces when they unwrap them. Never seems to get old for me. I got two more inline to start now but the other type seats more like factory ones. Lui

Hi all, I want to make one of them longhorn wall hangings with the middle wrapped in leather. I have never done one of them, and was curious on how its done. I thought I could put a pair on the hood of my ole truck. My question I guess is , what is used to keep the horns together and allow the wrap something to hold on to? Is it a piece of round stock wood wittled down to fit inside the horns? I can always order a set and tear them apart but I figure someone here can tell me. Thanks a bunch Lui

First holster for first gun
Lui replied to Crystal's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I say its a great job, the sewing is attention to detail is very good and 1911s is a great choice too. -
When I started I charged around twenty dollars an hour, now that I am a bit faster my carving rate is fifty and I have a pretty good idea of how long its gonna take to do the job so I offer a price for the job based on previous experience. Be caeful since every job is different try not to give a price for a "belt" lets say without knowing what you will be carving on it. Sometimes it may be so complex you may want to consider it at 5 dollars per square inch instead. Your best bet would be to try and figure out how long you are going to take to complete the task, sometimes maybe doing a small piece on scrap may help you figure this out and then figure what you want to earn for your time. Just a thought. Lui

Knife Cases for Obsidian knives

Very unique and way tooo cool Lui -
Thank you guys all very much. The thing was I had another idea and later had to go to a plan B. As for the frame I just thought I would glue it to a sheet of plywood and nail it to a home made frame from the back- I never thought about putting a mat on it. Thanks again Lui

Hello everyone this is my first post here. This is a picture I just finished, Im thinking of framing it with barnwood. I call it a screw up because after it was carved I wanted to color it using shades of brown and use the wash for the sky. When completed I got a wider brush and proceeded to do the sky but went from the wash jar directly to the sky and did not realize there was black residue on the brush. So I had put a couple more drops of black in the wash and turned it into a night sky then I just applied antique brown over the whole thing to give it a night feel. So Im not happy with it, but it has a story and a lesson to it. Im not much of a photographer either. Lui

I have a ccw permit and carry about 99% of the time. But then again I live in Miami. I also tell people that my belt and holster combos are so comfortable that I carry a Glock 30 on my hip for around 16 hours a day and its true. I am an NRA instructor too and teach the classes required to obtain your permit. Right now in Florida they are so backlogged that they are hiring another 60 people to the department just to keep up with demand. They expect to have issued here over 600,000 permits by midyear. Lui

Hello everyone, I cant believe I have been a member here for more then a year and still dont have a post to my name. My name is Lui, I live in Miami Florida, Im 49 years old married, have three kids, one grand kid and two pugs. I have been doing leatherwork for about three years now. I enjoy all aspects of the trade and have done a lot of projects since I started. I know a few of the members here from other sites and from IFOLG shows.
