That's gorgeous work!

That came out really nicely! I'm glad your gluing trouble is over...for now!

I've only read up to Faith of the Fallen...I've not gotten to the ones after yet. Not all have gotten good reviews...what did you think?

leather weld
wildrose replied to tashabear's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I use leatherweld almost exclusively for gluing leather to wood on my projects. I press the piece under weight for a couple hours to finish "setting". I find that works for me. In your situation, well, I'm not sure. I'd likely give it a try first, and as a backup go with the Crazy Glue. -
I know what you mean about that "itch" - it got me when I'd not done anything for years, then a friend asked me to make a sword sheath for him...after that was done, I couldn't stop myself from doing more! I especially love the oval in the center - great design - and the wallet back too.

Tony, I have to tell you one of the reasons my folks were glad I married and moved out was that they could finally enjoy lamb at home. I can't stand to even smell it cooking. One Christmas business party, the main dish was rack of lamb, and there was no other option...not a fun time for me! LOL!

Okay, Hilly's posts about getting a muzzle loader, and everyone starting to chat about eating "fuzzy little creatures", got me wondering: What is your favorite not-from-the-grocery-store meat? It doesn't have to be something you yourself went out and shot. For example, I don't hunt, but I like venison, dislike duck/pheasant, and adore ostrich. Not really thrilled with buffalo/bison (I understand it really has to be cooked properly to be good). My folks used to raise ostriches, and we had it in "hamburger helper", lasagna, "steak" sandwiches, stuffed peppers...you name it. Pretty much any way you'd use beef. My #1 pet "ignorant person" line was always: "Oh, ostrich....tastes like chicken, right?" Then I'd have to educate them by telling them that it was actually a red meat, but lower in fat and cholesterol than many other meats.

flasks
wildrose replied to wildrose's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks guys! LOL on the small for your needs...I think they're a little on the small side too...Although I do get a lot of comments on the "cuteness factor" of the little ones (the mini flask as well as the collapsible cup that's available too) -
Starting with the first one I did (when the kits first came out a couple years back), progressing to a 6oz one I just finished today. This particular stamp, which always makes me think of thatching, is so "forgiving". The stain on it is Tandy's saddle tan antique (liquid). The "M" flask, I think is Fiebing's buckskin, and the other two are mahogany antique. I really liked the Celtic pattern that came with the 6oz. kit; but it had a big space for an initial, and I'm making these to sell at my fair booth...so no knowing what to put on for that...

Love the color, stitching, and use of the meander stamp! The only suggestion I'd have is practice with the pear shader on the petals. I myself like the look of it though, and I know I have my own trouble with pear shaders.

You've worked long and hard on this one! It sure will look nicer than a plain ol' wood box.

As to what to put the patterns on pre-leather, several of the folks I know used butchers paper. It's like a thick brown paper. I don't know if it was really what butchers used or not, that's just what we called it.

My thought on the cast playing both Richard and Kahlan is that they are too young. Also, I think they are saying Kahlan wrong. Didn't Goodkind put a pronunciation guide in the front of one of the books because so many were asking how to say it? Horses, yup, lots of that, and sword fighting - that's a big draw for me. I'm a nut about the old Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power movies. I don't remember Discworld. I got confused for a minute and thought you meant Ringworld - a favorite series of my husband.

Amen to that Azmal! I love those books. Sometimes wordy, but I can't seem to stop myself! Jordan was an amazing author.

That is beautiful! It reminds me of the Pennsylvania Dutch artwork I saw alot around Lancaster.

http://www.legendoftheseeker.com If you are a fan of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novel, be aware there is a new miniseries coming based on them. While filming of a book(s) can often be a disaster (i.e. Eragon, Dragonlance), it can also be amazing (i.e. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter). Let's hope for the amazing here.... In any case, if you are a fan of the fantasy genre and haven't read these books yet: go! now! They were on my "someone recommended this to me" list for years before I finally read them. And while, like many series, they can get bogged down as they go on, the first few are incredible.

In another guild I previously belonged to, some of us got together and placed a large 'roo lace order from an Australian supplier (it was a while back, sorry I don't remember where it was from...) I still have quite a bit. I like it ALOT, but it can be stretchy. I like it most for the variety of brown colors I got.

We had Luke's experience here in VA: I was tooling around Fri. afternoon, running some errrands. It was at about 3.50 most places. My husband called to say he was going to get gas after work. By the time he was able to start trying (+5 pm) some stations were all out, one was at 4.19 and most others were just below 4.00!!! That, in a 2 hr time period!!!

Hope it was a great one! The bracelet should reach you shortly, hopefully with more luck than Pip had (he had to quiz the Post Office about the whereabout of his roses, as I recall...)

What are you drinking right now?
wildrose replied to JustWakinUp's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Okay, started my new job at a coffee shop tonight...and was introduced to praline latte. Now I can officially say there is a coffee drink I actually like! -
Awww, thanks That made my day! And congrats on the "leather anniversary"

Troy, nobody was "dissing" you, and I didn't mean that anything WAS bad, only that there was concern it could GET bad. Some of the moderators have experience with others on this site getting into name calling, so imagine that there was concern over folks getting nasty over something as serious as this. We wanted to talk it over before things got out of hand, as a precaution. Speaking for myself: I did read your link, and I found it interesting. Parts were a bit odd to me, but like you, I prefer to view all sides to an event and make up my own mind. BTW, when things are removed or invisibled, it's generally the rule of thumb to let the person know if it's going to stay that way. This is generally done by sending the person a PM. So please don't worry over any of your other posts. Besides, you'd know if they were invisibled: you wouldn't see them Let's remember the purpose of this post as it started out, and keep it to that!

What are you drinking right now?
wildrose replied to JustWakinUp's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Lipton iced tea, with sugar and lemon (down here, it's called sweet tea...I'm trying not to call it iced tea anymore....) I just took a p/t job in a coffee shop, so I might actually have to give in and start drinking the stuff...NOT!!! I'll be a tea drinker for life. -
Wow! I feel better already Crystal! You rule in my book for messiness. (and they say that's a sign of genius, after all...)
