Cigar Pouches
wildrose replied to Locknut's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Those are really nice, I can't think of anything to say in the way of improving them! -
ahhhh....how I miss days of riding bareback at my parents' old farm...

I would have to side with Kate on that. For example, a refrigerator has a motor, a car has an engine. But then again, I've also referred to what's in the car as its motor. Or what's in a boat. But what's in my weed trimmer is a motor. Confused? LOL. I've really enjoyed reading this topic. My husband is a nut about House and Hugh Laurie. The first time we heard him speak in an interview we were blown away by his accent. He covers it well. I don't really have an appreciation for British humor overall, but Tim is pretty big on it. Monty Python, "Are You Being Served", and other shows he finds on BBC...I pick up a book... As to kids being polite, I think that's a matter of who you speak to. We were at the playground a few months back, and a little girl who my son had been desperately trying to engage in conversation turned to her brother and said (of my son, in his presence!) "He talks weird!" I looked at her and said "he doesn't talk weird, he's 3 years old, and a lot younger than you!" (she appeared to be about 6) Ethan has also had several of his toys thrown by other kids who don't seem to understand the basic niceties of taking care of someone else's property. And the way the neighbors' boys treat each other...well let's just say I would not have been allowed to talk to my sister that way. I also have taught at a variety of age levels, in both public and church settings, and see a total lack of discipline in the youth.

My Lord, that's SNOW! God bless you there! I take back my thoughts on missing it now that I'm in VA (moved here from PA). Sweet tea, now that's a laugh. I recently took a job at The Daily Grind, a coffee shop in Blacksburg, just off VA Tech campus. I can always tell northerners like me if they call it ice tea. It's good, but I'm just as happy with my Lipton powder mix at home. At least I can call soda a soda and not get looked at funny, like when I was in western PA and they called it "pop". Now I just have to work on saying Appalachian properly..."a pah lah chan" rather than "a pah lay chan" The coffee shop has taught me what a coffee idiot I am. Being a tea drinker, I had no idea that espresso was more than a drink unto itself (i.e. it's in lattes and cappucinos); and I'm sure I gave my "trainer" a deer in the headlights look when she tried to show me how to steam milk with the espresso machine. But I made a little "cheat sheet" and am getting along better now. I find I'm a visual learner - if I see it written, I'm more likely to remember it. Probably why I'm so awful with names when introduced! But for me, the big "to do" on the leather front was yesterday: the Highlander Festival at Radford University. The weather was perfect (sunny and 70's), it was also parents' weekend, and there was an Appalachian Arts Festival on campus the same day. So LOTS of shoppers. And great music, and men in kilts, and wearing my own family's tartan (MacLaren). Plus, I made over 300.00 !! I know that's not alot to some of you, but to me that was a one day record. Best sellers were small items: wristbands and keyrings. But I also sold a few larger things. Next up is a choral booster benefit at a local school in 2 weeks. So I'll be busting my butt again...and Tandy is getting a big ol' order from me tomorrow!

I think BillyP really hit the nail on the head. When Johanna and I first were discussing this sort of board, it was because we were "fed up" with a certain large guild. Speaking for myself, I wanted somewhere that information was freely shared in a friendly environment, and also where people could talk about goings on in their lives and world as well. Selling stuff is obviously a bonus. Talking about HOW to sell stuff definitely went along with my initial desire for the board. TomSwede hit a good point in talking about carrying work around with you. I always have a purse or dayplanner on me that I made. I wear a bracelet I've done too, so folks can see it's not all about big ticket items. And the show I was at yesterday, I also laid out my folio and Bible cover (folio I made 10 years ago, cover is about 3 months old), so people can see how things hold up, and what's available by custom order. I set them aside from my "for sale" items, but within easy eyesight and reach.

re: the artsy shot: You shootin' for the Eddie Montgomery look from Montgomery Gentry fame? Couldn't resist...

My Rose purse is finished.

"Clean" is the word that comes to mind about the excellent color job. It is sooooo beautiful. The owner is sure to use it proudly! I also love the positioning and use of the clasp (and that's a favorite clasp of mine too) -
That's even nicer than Tandy's snowflake project! (which is also glue and lace)
-
That's the pattern I was emailing around too...I never posted it on the board because there have been flame wars in a guild I formerly belonged to about posting Tandy's patterns (copyrights and all). I know they're free, so it seems like a no brainer that you could scan and post 'em...but apparently that's not the case.

Pimp My Pony: Gear for the Equestrian Commute
wildrose replied to wolvenstien's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
LOL! At the base of it, I love the idea of going back to horses. -
My grandmother tried to bite a (male) nurse who was at her bedside in her final days because he was black...yeah, she was really bad that way! The note on HER chart was not very nice!

My husband was at our chiropractor's office today. He knew he'd been overbilled, and was confronting the secretary about it. She was on the clueless side, so he spoke with the doctor and got it straightened out. All in a calm fashion. Well, as he was leaving, he saw a post-it note on his chart, which had been left open, which read "patient refuses to pay. WTF???" That got him steamed - and I was steamed too. Not for the first part, which was a bit rude, but to infer "what the ######" about it, was totally uncalled for. He says he's going to talk to them next time about it, but I think he'll likely just let it go. Anyone else have bad office/dr stories to share?

Well thought out reply Randy! I think the bailout is a bad idea, for what others here are saying. It's not US that will see the money, it's the bigwigs and corporation owners.

Simply gorgeous! Great work!

You look like your mom! Wish I lived closer 'cuz we've been talking about buying a camper. My folks have an RV (secondhand) that we jokingly call the "Griswoldmobile"

I'd love the pattern if you're sharing? That's one PINK box, but honestly I think it's the nicest one in the pics.

LOL! Thanks for the humor! Sooooo true. Hillary really did have a ruthless streak (still does, I'm sure).

Thanks! I've been enjoying all the pics and comments. It's great putting faces to names. You're right, it's a 1966. I first had a '67, for college graduation, but it turned out to be too rusted for repair at that time (I don't have a supportive husband for this - he HATES the car), so we sold that one. I think Dad kinda felt bad, so when he saw this one at a neighbor's, and the plate said "HOLLY"...well, he pestered the guy into finally selling it. Any Mustang pre-69 is pretty much my dream car. Here are pics BEFORE I got it painted: Tim's been after me to sell this one too, actually! But I've got support from Ethan, who adores it - he pets it and says "hot rod, hot rod"...gotta love that!

I've attached some more to help... Jordan, nice try ... but no luck.

I have to say I'm finding myself agreeing with what I'm reading here. I stopped at the candidate's local headquarters and got yard signs for McCain/Palin so my family (and esp. my husband) wouldn't disown me...but I'm honestly not sure who I'll choose come election day. My mother in law, who is in her upper 60's, has expressed a great deal of concern about McCain's age, and a close friend of mine said, what if something happens and Palin becomes president? Well, I think she seems like a likeable mom, but not who I want as Prez. Now we have Obama on the other hand, and he's just a bit too slick for my liking. Lesser of two evils seems to hit the nail on the head. Sad since it seemed there were a lot of good choices early on in the primaries!

Okay, I tried to post earlier but my connection crashed...so here we go now: Family shot from Christmas in PA, and one of Ethan and I after we moved here to Virginia (Hokie colors!). Oh, and if we're showing off rides too, this isn't a motorcycle, but I still love it...got it from my folks when I turned 35. I might consider sending a prize to the first person to CORRECTLY identify the year the car is.

Last year's catalog had a separate price listing also. I keep mine stuffed inside the catalog so I have it handy.

I dvr'd it (loving dvr - first time we've had it! no more videotaping!) so I've not watched it yet. This way I can fast forward any bickering...hmm...I guess I might as well not watch it at all, huh? LOL! I read in the paper this morning that there didn't seem to be a clear winner in the debate anyhow. I am glad they went ahead and did it. I am hoping to learn a little more about each candidate than their attacks on each other's records...

Great job and an obviously happy customer!
