  1. In fact, i was thinking to made a leather armor with embosse plug. For those who have seen Lord of the ring, i would like to make emboss leather armor inspire by Rohan like armor! So, i would mold thin leather in location i like, an the glue heavy lether under the light leather to make a storng and, i hope, superbe leather armor!
  2. While looking on ebay trying to find a plastic mold for making masks like the one on the Making wearable masks by Cheryl Smeja, i found a person who's seeling solid polymer clay mold like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/CNS-polymer-clay-mold-...4QQcmdZViewItem I was wandering if by using the technique on the other video of Cheryl, it would be possible to wet a small once leather and aplly it in the mold and shapping it with modeler and ball modeler to make thge leather conform to the mold? In order for the leather to retain it's 3D shape, i was thinking about using Rob leather powder to fill the 3D shape.

  5. Thank you for your patience! I will try to dye my leather the way you do. So, you mix you dye/reducer in a large pan, put non-powder latex gloves, take the leather piece by the side( the one that wll be sicked or cover by edge coat), dip or dunk in leather, take it out, wipped the leather of the dye surplus, then let-it dry. Once again, thank you very much for your help! This will improve my dying skills

  7. So, basically, you put on latex gloves, hold the piece by the edges then either dip-it or submerge the whole piece? But, what about the leather where your fingers was? It must leave a blank spot? Do you change side and dip the part you where holding the moment ago? Sorry for being so stupid, but i can't figure it

I finished a order for a customer, but the color on the belr, leather buckle and belt bag is far to dark, than it was supposed to be Before a re-do de whole order again, is there a way to fully cover a belt (1 1/2" wide), a belt bag and leather belt cover on a ligther shade? I don't have a airbrush, only dauber and sheep wool scrap. The guy want Fiebing dy "British Tan", but even if i try to used the least dy on the dauber, it's alway doing a job with streaks. 19. :soapbox: Even if i'm a newbie in leatherwork, i would like to share a tip with you. When i'm dying a piece of leather, and wish to have a even coat of dye all over, here's what i discover. First, i'm cleaning the leather with Fiebing's deglazer, then, i'm using the black foam like brush. I'm not fully fluent in english, so, i'll attach a pic of the brush i am talking of. I dip my dauber in the dye container, then apply a ligth coat ont the foam brush. Then, i drag the brush in a long stroke. When most of the dye is out of the brush, i recoat the brush with the dauber. So far, i have only try this technique with Fiebing's light brown Oil dye, but it give me a uniform finish. I'll try to post a pic of the piece of leather that i dyed this week-end (using my girl friend cam). Until then, take a look at the brush and experiment with different kind of dye.
  20. Johanna, Clay and Regis, thank's! Before cutting the leather with the S-knife, i stroped it on a bussines card cover with rouge. I'm using a angle ceramic blade and find it to be more easy to cut in leather than a standard metal blade. I'm thinking about buying a 1/4" angle filigree ceramic blade. Any comment about this kind of blade? I case my leather with Pro-Carv mixture and each time, i'm amazed how the leather cut and stamps well. This mixture really help me! After i finished my two order, i'll return in class and practice with the S-knife. :book:
  21. As the title said, i would like to improve my skills with the swivel knife! I have the Leatherwork Manual, Tech-tips, Stohlman step-by-step, Stohlman Portfolio volume 1, Carving figure and Pictorial carving and Inverted carving. I learn valuable lessons, but still need to improve my skill while cutting with the :censored: swivel knife. I try to do the exercices cut as teached in the Leatherwork Manual, i do not make my joining cuts fully touchs, but, my curves and cuts done with the swivel knife really sucks. It seem sometimes that instead of making good progress, my skill are regressing. So, when you first learn how to cut with the S knife, what kind of exercices did you do? And how often did you practice each day? I really like to work with leather, but, it look like i'm not progressing much right now :ranting:
