  1. Every tool belt that I have scene for this type of thing is generally atleast 8oz if not more like 10oz stuff. If you want the most longest lasting till the end of time thing then some kind of bridle leather, latigo or something similer will do the trick and put up with allmost anything being thrown at it. You could use vegtan also just like you do for your holsters and such and it should hold up for many many years if taken care of which Im sure he will. As far as replecating the other one just let him know that it wont be all floppy like the canvas one and that it will hold its shape more and all since its leather. You could cut up the canvas one but personally I would just measure all the pockets and transfer the idea to leather with allowances for thickness and such. If you have al stohlmans case making books (three of them) they will help alot, if not you may think about checking those guys out. Thats just my newbish input, but if you can build nice holster Im sure you can build a utility belt just fine. Time to learn some more stuff
  2. Has anyone here ordered or dealt with these guys, they are somewhat close (about an hour away) and I was wondering if they were worth the trip. They seem kind of pricey on there leather but other stuff is pretty decent. http://www.macphersonleather.com/carving_a...ing_leather.htm
  3. Thats some great info Gary. By chance do you ever have any issues using vegtan with dog collars, heard here that sometimes they are allergic to it.
  4. Yeah nice touch on the letters/numbers. Good looking seat so far.
  5. I think its just like if you put the whole thing in a bunch of water, when it dries its probably gonna shrink up some. Maybe oil it real good when its drying or set it on some kind of a jig to keep it from stretching. Maybe, Im still new so, but mos teverything I used with vinegaroon I molded after words while it was still wet
  6. THats a good idea with the book thing, I should start doing that.
  7. Did you happen to find this link http://www.rollanet.org/~stacyw/rifle_sling_home_page.htm I searched all kinds of stuff before getting some help from David. You may not find the exact pattern but you may get en0ough from there to be able to build one.
  8. Busy huh, those boot cover things are pretty cool, I am interested as too how well they hold up. Looks good though. The wallet is nice as well, good job on the horse carvings and the interior. My only change I would make is to treat the hair on portion like an inlay, may make it a little neater but thats just me Im kind of a inlay nut, started doing it and cant stop lol. Overall great job.
  9. Very nice looking, I like the mottled effect with the dye. I dont know if thats what you were shooting for but it looks good.
  10. Thats why I was happy they redid it. Now when you click on something you actually get the page right away and you dont lose pages, its very nice compared too how it was last year.
  11. Well if its similer to olive oil which is used frequently in the leather craft then I dont see why it wouldnt work. I know there are a few here that use olive oil on a regular basis.
  12. Well I didnt have the extra money for a slicker right now (the glass piece for slicking down your leather before you carve it) so when I was at lowes I saw some of the counter top edge tiles, the ones that look like a L shape but long about 6" long. Well these things work pretty darn good just gotta pick thru and find a good one. Picked it up for $.25
  13. Thanks Jbird and ATX that does help alot. I couldnt remember who posted that help from before.
  14. Very cool thanks for posting this
  15. Thank you so much for finally getting it so that you can search around and compile list for ordering without it taking hours of my time. The site is much better looking as well.
  16. OK so I just cant seem to keepfrom getting little ridges between my tri weave stamping. I have a heck of a time keeping them lined up and after about two rows or so I start losing my tightness and uniformity. I know there was a semi guide in one of the threads but I cant seem to find it anywhere. Something about using a toothpick and lines and stuff. I know tandy stuff isnt the best and thats what I am using right now but I checked my tools and they are ok as far as spacing,
  17. LOL before I read your post I though you beat up han solo and took his stuff. Great job and it does look like good work.
  18. I know there are several that use lasers on leather. With good results I may add. The biggest burning thing is wood burning, they have mutlitudes of burning tools in all shapes and sizes. Look thru the wood working forums and such and Im sure youll find what you need or it would be a good start.
  19. Dont forget to add for the thickness of the leather and the bend. If you allready made some and end up happy with the fit then measure all your stuff and keep notes of that for future work.
  20. Agree with Justwakinup, joanns has a huge selection of fabrics. My first wallet I made about 8 months or so ago I used the upholstery fabric and its still doing pretty good considering its a daily use wallet for a big guy.
  21. Ill ship overseas as well. And guys when they ask if its a gift say YES, more often then not this will decrease the price if not for you for your recipient.
