  1. I dont know about tooling patterns but for over all purse designs Joanns has a huge selection of patterns for purses and grab bags. Now most of these may need some adjustments for leather use but its a start.
  2. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/home/de...avlocation=left All of those seem to be made by barge. Im not sure of how much different they are from the other barge stuff they sell but it comes from the same company.
  3. Hey Pete you have a link to the tool, I may be a maroon as well but I cant figure out which tool your talking about. Oh and that knife I got from you is still working great, so much better then the other one I had. Thanks.

    stropping

I think mainly it was price. The cost of them were more then what they could easily get. On the other note my ceramique blade that I got new had alot of marks from the factory and didnt cut very well at all so I took to sharpening it and stropped it and now all is great. The thing is a very nice edge on it.
  5. Ahh very cool. Thanks Rawhide and tell Peter thanks for sharing how he did it and that he did a excellent job.
  6. Could file it down or if its sunk in fill it with resin then file it. Just a thought.
  7. I like, thats a nice touch with the back grounder on there. Rawhide do you know if he tooled the feather before or after he wet molded the holster.
  8. Those are really nice, I like the first one the best
  9. Those look really cool, I like the first one the best. Should call them belt bags or something though because if you call them a purse then us guys cant wear them
  10. Thanks, I may get over there eventually. Most prices arent that great and the leather prices are really steep but there are a few things that seemed ok or were pretty well priced. Biggest one I noticed was the roo lace. Its a few dollars cheaper then TLF is when its on sale. About the best price Ive scene anywhere.
  11. I agree that is some crazy good stuff. Looks like it took some seriouse stitching effort.
  12. Dont they have larger bags like for storing clothing and the such in. I remember seeing those things. A thought, you could get one of those vacuum pumps that you use for drawing a vacuum on refrigeration systems. You can get them relatively cheap (around $150 I think), they are far heavier duty then the food sealers. Now you could build a large vacuum bag with a hard bottom (kind of like if you were doing composite work ) and put your stuff in there and bam your all good. Leave the vacuum pump in there and have it set to whatever vacuum you want and you could leave it for a day or so. Probably work pretty good on even heavier leather.
  13. You can also do a carving on veg tan and layer that over your chrome tan leather or do it as a insert.
  14. It shouldnt be sometimes it should be all the time. I tell you there are a couple of sales poeple that I let get the best of me and if this world goes to crap I have a couple of .40" slugs of metal with there name on it. Its still a large portion of whats wrong with the worlds economy. Yes charge what its worth but dont be taking the dime just because you can get it from them. Then your no better then bank of america or who ever else you wanna compare too. Same goes for Billy P too, just because someone else will rip them off does that mean you should too. Lets all go find the suckers and see if we can get there wallets. This isnt meant as a personal attack, lets charge a fair price but dont be taking more then what its worth just because someone else did.
  15. I dont think (could be wrong ) that bianchi lines any of there holsters with suede, never scene one. Now in my holsters from bianchi as in many Ive scene they use the flesh side for either against the body or against the gun. They state that there holsters are made from veg tanned oiled hides. Just a thought.
  16. I thought it was just blue guns that would tarnish or whatever, most of the finishes on newer guns dont have this issue.
  17. Thanks for posting, that was what I meant in my earlier post just couldnt remember all the facts. Been a while since I talked to them.

Thanks Ed I just remember that you guys were working with this stuff alot and everyone were getting alot of good info into the mix. You still liking the tuff coat? Or have you not had a chance to try it out yet?
  19. Also if you see something that is from there parent company (weaver/hidehouse or whoever it is) you can call them and they will try to make it available at OTB. It may just take a little bit of time.
  20. Looks really good to me, maybe work on the edges a little bit but over all really nice. When I say edges I am talking about on the straps, just look a bit rough,
  21. Someone else posted that you have to take a caliper to them because he tried this on a couple and they were a little large or off in some areas. Not sure by how much.

Just a question but did you try tan kote or tuff kote. From what I understand these are all usually the same thing just tan kote is thinned a bit and bag kote is thinned a bit more.
  23. There is absolutley nothing wrong with educating your customer. Actually I prefer places that do this. When I look at a website for leatherworking and they go into depth about why there stuff is better becuase its hand tooled or hand sewn or anything else like that and they provide pictures and such I think it is far better then a play on words. Take Art Vincent's site on his quivers, Not only does he explain why his quivers are better then alot of others and shows how much work he has done researching and experimenting with his work but includes why others that have not done this and just throw some random stuff together arent going to get you your money's worth even if it is cheaper. Art Vincent's site Also when you contact him he is usually very helpful with explaining anything to you. Esantoro's site walden bags shows why his is better then the competition. There are many others as well, holster web sites, bag sites, all kinds of stuff. There is absolutely nothing wrong with explaining to the customer how yours is made and how theres is made, your not bad mouthing, your educating your customer. Even if they dont buy your bag they will be educated on what to look for and will more then likely remember you for your help.
  24. If I remeber right David alot of the birds and there importance for sailers were the fact that the birds were only scene near land. When one was sailing across the atlantic or any large body of water with limited supplies and motivational power it was a welcome sign to see land and usually land dwelling birds were the first you saw of it. Now I am not sure if that has anything to do with the swallow but I know it was extremely bad luck to kill a land dwelling bird on board your ship. Even for food.
  25. Reminds me of norther california, every summer would get 115f plus for a couple of weeks, sometimes higher. Just sit under the AC if you got it is all I can say. Im up in northwest washington state right now which honestly sucks. I think its sunny about 15% of the year.
