  1. I realize this is a little late, but you might look up forum member Kate and also look at some of her jeweled browbands here: http://www.irishhuntersandjumpers.com/LeatherPage2.html I believe there is a way to stitch semi-precious beads into the work as additional security against losing the stones. Dave
  2. I have used buckleguy too - very satisfied with the quality and quick shipping.
  3. wow! they look great:You_Rock_Emoticon:
  4. I must be cursed - finally bought one on ebay, and the package got wet in transit and the stamp fell out somewhere between KS and FL. I was quite disappointed when I got an empty yellow mailer with a hole in it. I got my money back of course, but would have rather had the stamp. Oh, well. I no longer need it, but thanks to all who replied.
  5. I found one - thanks to all who responded!
  6. That is the set all right. I try to buy from the scout store whenever possible - unfortunately they don't have the arrow of light stamp. Thanks for the response Yep I'm watching it. Maybe fourth time is charm... or maybe I'm just being too cheap. I have lost 3 auctions now by only $1 or $2. Thanks!
  7. Thanks Luke - I think its a bit small, though I was actually considering using one if I can't get ahold of the 3d stamp.
  8. I need a 3D arrow of light stamp if anyone has one hanging around. I keep getting outbid every time one shows up on ebay. I will pay up to $15 for one. I only need it for one small project - a thank you gift for a den leader. If anyone has one they don't want to sell, but might be willing to loan for a week, I would pay for shipping and we could figure out some sort of deposit arrangement with paypal. Dave
  9. I have two foot presses, but need dies I am looking to trade one of them for some setting dies. Or I will sell one to buy dies. I am looking for eyelet and common rivet/snap sizes. I already have a self-piercing grommet set. These are very heavy blue kick presses - they look just like the ones on the campbell randall website, but not the same brand. They say "Works Co. New York" and "No. 39" Located in central Florida. I can disassemble for shipping, but it is quite heavy - just the press, I need the table for the other one Open to any offers.
  10. This site explains the mexican basketweave as well as lots of other useful stuff. And you can't beat the price. http://kingsmerecrafts.com/page100.html Dave
  11. It looks great! I really like the style of it. Can you post some more pictures - of the insides and the straps? Dave
  12. I did get it up an running- It is the 42-5 with the big hook. Once I replaced the bobbin case it only needed a few small adjustments and now it is sewing great. It is so nice to be able to use those bigger threads! Unfortunately mine didn't come with the oil cup, so I am going to have to rig something up in order to use some linen blend thread I have - but the polyester thread I have is working great! I am in the process of moving & haven't had time to put it to work much, but I have got all kinds of project ideas simmering - I can't wait to get my shop set up again! I am looking to follow your lead and put it in a treadle. I also have the parts & instruction manual from the Singer site. By the way - I really like the gemstone browbands on your website. Do you use wire to hold the beads in place? Dave
  13. This machine has sold. Thanks!
  14. Sweet top hat! I would like to get the pattern too. Even better, why not come back to Winter Park for a visit and host a class in your old digs? I still blame you for getting me into this hobby - I swore it would only last a year... - Dave
  15. I will keep an eye out for a stand. I saw one by itself on ebay a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if it is still around. I picked up a 29k58 with a stand a while back - I fixed up the head and thats what I use now, but I'm waiting on some room in my garage before refinishing the stand. I'm pretty sure it isn't the original stand for the 29k58 because it is much longer than you would expect - probably for a long-arm patcher. The thing is, I haven't been able to find a stand that looks anything like it in all the pictures of patchers I could find - It has an "S" so I think it is a singer, but I couldn't find any singer logos with lion heads. Anyway, I thought it was pretty unique - can't wait to clean it up and repaint it. Tell me what you think!
  16. Hmmm.... I meant to post this in the for sale section. Sorry for the confusion (mine).
  17. Hi Ed, 1. It is a long-arm - the arm is 18" - the 29-4 I think is 12" 2. It takes small bobbin - same one as the the 29-4. Many of the parts on the 29-4 are interchangeable - but not all. 3. It doesn't have a motor- it is on a foot-powered treadle stand. It wouldn't be too difficult to hook a motor up to it, but I don't have one. I put some pictures up in the sale forum. Let me know if you want some more pics - I am going to try to get some video of sewing soon. Dave
  18. Shoe patcher for sale in excellent shape. Head has been cleaned and refurbished. Original paint on the head. Treadle stand is repainted in industrial gloss black. I will try to get a you-tube video of it sewing posted this week. Comes with spare bobbins and threading wire. Asking $950. Located in Orlando Florida - pickup preferred, as this thing is very heavy. Thanks for looking! Dave
  19. I have an Adler 30-1 patcher - I just listed it for sale in the sale forum. It is very similar to the 29-4, but it has a longer cylinder arm. It would probably be too expensive to ship though... 29-4s are frequently on ebay - but I think Bob Kovar has one listed for sale here on the forum. You would be better dealing with a reputable dealer like him than getting one on ebay - the 29-4s can get worn out and rickety - with wearable parts that aren't replaceable. The 29k series would probably be a better bet as they improved the design somewhat (IMHO) and sections of the cylinder arm can be replaced. Dave
  20. I like finding and fixing up old sewing machines almost as much as leather work. Unfortunately the Wife (the Boss) says I have too many and a few need to go - I would love to keep this Adler, but I don't really have a use for it and I have a 29-4 and a 29k58 to play with anyway. Patch machine is in great shape - original paint on the head. I repainted the treadle stand in industrial gloss black, cleaned and refurbished the head. Comes with a threader and 2 spare bobbins. I will try to get a video of it sewing on youtube this weekend. Asking $950. I also have a singer 17-16 cylinder arm machine for light leather work for sale - would be great for wallets, bags, portfolios, etc. It has reverse and a removable table for flat work. Comes with a table and clutch motor, 3 extra hooks, roller foot, roller guide, several different presser feet for zippers and such, tons of new bobbins, and lots of needles in all sizes. Even has the original manual from the early 1900s - though it is best left in its tube as it is falling apart. Asking $650. I will post this one separately once I get some pictures. Prefer pickup on both machines as they are HEAVY and I wouldn't begin to know how to pack them. Besides, you will want to try them before you buy them, right?
  21. Thanks Kate! I actually found some old posts of yours on the shoe forum regarding the 42-5 and the 29 needles - along with some other helpful info about the 42. I can't wait to get mine set up! Just waiting on a replacement hook and some room in the garage... I got my machine from a retired shoe guy - he didn't have any extras with it, but I compared the needle that was in the machine to my 29 needles, and other than being a bit shorter they were about the same. I already ordered some 135x16 needles from Bob to try, but its good to know the 29s will work too. Bob also said he can get the bobbins if you need them... Dave
  22. Thanks Bob! are you able to get the hooks and bobbin cases for the machine?
  23. Hello All, I am going to go look at a Singer 42 class machine this weekend. They don't seem to be as common as some of the other old machines out there - does anyone have experience with these machines? I was able to find out from the serial number that it is a 42 class built in 1913, and learned from the owner that it is a walking foot - I don't know if its the "alternating presser" type or the "vibrating pressor." The singer manual says it takes up to size 25 needle - 16x63 or 16x64. With a little searching I have figured out that the 16x64 leather needles are hard to find, but the 63s are available. Does anyone know: 1. if another needle system will work? 2. if a size 25 needle (207 thread) is a bit obtimistic for this machine? (it has a pretty big flywheel) 3. if there are any issues with these machines to watch for? Thanks! Dave
  24. This page shows it having reverse. It should also say on the manual or parts list, I just don't have it handy. http://www.industrialsewmachine.com/webdoc1/used/used-brochures/17.htm I have a 17-16, also with reverse, and after tons of frustration and headaches I stopped trying to use anything thicker than 69/92 thread. The shuttles are available occasionally on ebay and there is a Co in california that has them for pretty cheap if anyone wants the website... Have a nice day! Dave
