  1. I will check out those models, thanks so much! And I appreciate it jeffss, but you are way out of my price range. You say you sell global though? I'm interested in finding out if I could potentially get a sidewall stitcher from you in the future! Thanks!
  2. Good morning, and thanks guys. That Adler i was looking at did not have the usual treadle stand, it had a stand similar to the Adler 30-10 which i wasnt expecting... I plan on using my patcher as a 2-in-1, a patch and a flat bed. I can barely seem to find tables for the Singer 29, and though they look very similar im not sure if I found the flat table it would even fit the Adler so Im passing on that too! I dont have the time (or patience) to try and figure out how to make a flat bed out of that Adler stand plus the potential cost of parts scares the crap out of me. Being forced to be patient here. But im glad, as I have learned so much and I will feel more prepared once I do finally get my machine! Thanks for that manual and the info on that regulator... Im about to read the manual now.. ALSO, what are the differences between the 29k and 29-4?? Is it simply just a newer machine?? Thanks
  3. Well i just found out she was 4 hours away... My brother isnt willing to do the 8 hour trip with me so Im gonna have to pass on it. Its looking more like im getting and Adler but I dont like begging ppl to take my money and I just cant seem to get a flipping price out of this guy. Im tired of waiting lol. Ok so I just tried to google it myself but all i kept finding is stuff about "stitch regulator". No thread regulator info or what its used for and why its important OR which singers (or Adlers) the darn thing comes on... Please tell me the difference between the 2? And why is it important? EDIT: Just got a text from him. Says (the Adler) its set up for servo motor, but that he hasnt found the correct one yet. 650 no motor 750 with... Im guessing I should probably ask him if it has this thread regulator while Im at it lol. Thanks so much
  4. http://www.bootmaker.com/29-4.pdf JUST LOOKED IT UP! 29-4 does have a stitch regulator... $600. Thx for all the help. I know it probably was getting repetitive but I really do appreciate it. Just wanted to make the best decision I can!
  5. It's a 29-4, don't know what a stitch regulator is but I will look it up, and it's off ebay so can't do anything about the picture size. Unfortunately th other guy still didn't give me a price on the Adler or I might have considered it... Thanks again!
  6. Ok everybody I found another machine... 2 hours away. Lady says its 1910, cleaned and oiled and stitching beautifully. Stitches looks good to me! What are your thoughts??
  7. Thanks bob! Also I'm still very interested in that patcher!
  8. Thats very true. I have a few pieces of leather at home and if I hear back from him again I know someone who was selling some veg tan scraps I can buy and take up there to try and sew with. Hes about an hour away so that drive is next to nothing. Also, is 5 SPI what it should be stitching?? I hear this often, "check the SPI chef the SPI", but im just not sure whats good and what isn't... Any pointers on that? Or link to another thread maybe?
  9. DID THEY!? Well thats good news then... Hopefully thats what it is! Also just uploaded that pic^^^^
  10. Forgot to attach the pic. Lol
  11. Hey, thanks for all your input. The got got back to me and said the Adler runs great just needs a motor put on, Whig he has. Still unsure of model and potential price. I told him what I read here about the crazy prices in parts and I've asked if he has a source for parts, will see what he says. I also saw a singer tucked in his shop somewhere and he said it may be a 29 series, but I doubt it will be a k71 cuz it's nots silver and I've only seen silver of that model thus far. I'm excited cuz he's local but imalso not naive so I'm gonna weigh my options... Appreciate all the help!! Hey take a look at this pic... Any idea on model? ALSO, what is the bobbin name called for for a 29-4 or 29-k? Trying find pre wound. Thx
  12. Why are Adlers parts so much more expensive?? I know he just said its because they dont make them themselves, but why dont they? I was under the impression they were a leader in machine making, no way theyve gone broke and sold everything for a Chinese factory to recreate... I want a 29k71 but I cant find one, either in my area or that doesnt need a ton of work done. Getting desperate. Found an Adler but Im not trying to pay 360 anything for A PART. Singular. Geesh!!
  13. Another great read as I wait to here back from a seller on an Adler patcher!!
  14. Thanks everybody... Im still waiting to hear back from the person that was selling the Singer, but I have just come across a silver Adler patcher, not sure what model or price etc, but does anybody know if the Adler patchers have any advantages to the Singer's?? Besides cost LOL. Im gonna look more into the dremel thing. I still need to get some pricking irons, havent gotten that far yet. Im not gonna sew with stingray though until i get really comfortable with my machine... Seems like finding the darn machine is the hardest part!
  15. I came across a Singer 29-4 from a reputable seller but he has not gotten back to me. I just replied to a Local craigslist ad that had an Adler Patcher in his photos, which model, I dont know, but it was silver, and looked to be in very good (cosmetic) condition. Something tells me Adlers cost more then Singers, can someone tell me why, is the diff in cost worth it, and is there something I should be checking for on the Adler if he happens to be flexible in price? What should i try to sew as a test? (BTW, I dont know how much he's asking for it yet, I literally just emailed, he's liquidating LOTS of saddle shop equipment)
  16. More great advice here, thanks everyone!!
  17. This was a good read as I am in the market for a 29-4! Thanks all
  18. So much useful info here thanks everyone!! Im a newbie! I was about to buy some expensive books on this process lol. Would still love to see this process in photos though
  19. @ Trox, You are probably right. I might add that I am a rookie and Ive never sewed in my life, so I have no clue what a 441 etc etc is, lol sorry. I dont plan on sewing stingray for a long time, not until i really get to know my machine. Over the weekend I did do some research though and found that many think diamond point needles are the one that should be used for such a hide, but i read that titanium is needed instead. I did talk to a friend who has already started his sneaker reconstruction business, but he has classic cobbler training, I do not, and he enjoys hand sewing though he did say stingray was quite difficult. He says he pokes the holes with an awl and then sews with some Tiger thread... I think the 29-4 can take a size 18 needle. Is that big enough?? Also, after my 29-K i am thinking of purchasing a Sailrite Zig zag. That way I have a flat bed as well... I have read that does have a safety clutch system. After I master these 2 I will probably upgrade my 29-4 to a post post bed since I will be making shoes... For the dremel options can someone please suggest a bit?? I a willing to take this extra step especially if it means preserving my machine!! Thanks May I ask what pricking irons you use?? Also, what do you hit it with? Maul or mallet?? When you cut your stingray, what tool do you use to cut it with??
  20. This was really useful knowledge... Im hoping my Singer 29-4 can move through this hide... I dont have a dremel though. But it sounds like it may be necessary...
  21. Thanks a lot!! I actually read that before I even became a member lol... That is how I found this site... Very informative, but still a lot to take in at once, which is why I'm asking some slightly more specific questions here!! I actually just found where and how to get shoe lasts, now my next question is does anyone know where I can buy polyurethane foam that's used in the collar and tongues of most sneakers? Thanks!!
  22. Thx so much electrathon... I will check that glue out!! Also, I think I want a post as well. But I'm thinking I could get by with a flat walking foot until I can get a post as an addition. I think I'm gonna look for a used Juki ddl 8700 I believe is what it's called... It's $700 new and that's just above my range, so if I can find an assembled in th high 5's or 6's I can afford it!! Next, do you guys know a website where I can find some shoe lasts?? Thank u all so much. I'm aware of the learning curve, and a fast learner. I'm serious about learning this stuff, I just want as much advice from ppl who've been there done that as possible, before I start shelling out hundreds of dollars!
  23. Hi Art and thanks so much for replying! Yes as I stated from the beginning I am a complete novice, never sewed anything in my life. Ive been interested in this type of stuff since I was 12 (now 23) and I have an opportunity to learn this craft from a person who does this specific kind of work this coming July. Right now Im just trying to do as much of my own footwork as possible. Maybe having just a flat would be good enough, as you said, alot of the reattachment to soles are actually done by glue. There are only a few Nike, such as Jordan 1s or Nike dunks that have sidewall stitching in addition to glue, and im guessing I could restitch the sidewall with an awl?? You also brought up not buying direct, how else would I buy? I thought buying direct was good because that means you get to see (in most cases) what your getting before you purchase, how do you suggest that I do buy?? Also, is there a certain adhesive you would recommend for this kind of work? And up above I only see the one link for machines, "Nick-O"...Can you link to some others as well or where I need to go to find a list of them on this site? Thank you very much!!!!
