Thank you so much. Mom still gonna go look at it, just because I told the man I was. But he already stated in the listing he didn't want to be offered scrap prices, and it looks like I shouldn't be paying much over 100 for it. Thx so much

Art is this good enough for sewing sneaker uppers then?? Im looking to see if roller foot can be attached to this machine. Will be sewing 4-5 oz leather, maybe some stingray. 69 thread although it would be great if it can handle 138... Found one thats been sitting for 20+ years, im going to view it tommor. They are excepting offers... This will be a lee way machine until i can save up for a techsew 810 or 830. Thoughts??? Thx alot Looks like Im asking the same questions 50 times on the same post. Sorry about that. Im posting while really sleepy.

Hey guys, thx for the advice. Im still leaning toward the techsew and I have got in touch with them and they answered all my questions... Seems like a good choice. The techsew is extremely expensive though. Long time to save for it. Im not opposed to upgrading later, so Im going to go look at this Singer 51w51 hopefully tommoro after work. I will take lots of photos then come back and make a separate post for it and see what you all think is a good offer, or if its even worth it. Its been sitting for 25 years, so id have to buy a servo and probably oil the heck out of it right off the back Are parts in abundance for this machine? What needle system? Im still trying to figure out if roller foot is possible or not, if a roller cant be properly attached I will have to pass it up. I need that specifically. Im sure once I get actual photos that question will be easier to answer. Thank you all for your time

Thanks you guys. Im going to look at a Singer 51w51 tomorow. Guy says its been sitting for 25 years, maybe used twice within that time frame. Im still looking to figure out if roller foot is available for it What do you think is a good offer??? I will probably make a seperate post for it once I go to see it. Thx for the help!

Thanks Wiz! I will do that! I actually did contact the official Techsew ebay page, it wasn't a random ebayer. I will look for the banner though and send my questions through their website

Thanks everybody! unfortunately there are no photos. The craigslist posting just had a stock photo of it, with some text describing it underneath. I emailed, but so far no response. Ive decided I'm just going to purchase the Techsew 810. Is there a dealer in here? Or anyone whose dealt with this machine before? I sent questions on ebay but still no response... Thx everybody!!

Anyone?? To answer those questions ^^ i just found the same machine on Maine craigslist

Reconstruction For Sneakers/cordwainer/bespoke Shoe Making
MG513 replied to MG513's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Ready to find a post bed now. I have a flat bed consew 206 to go along with it. Many suggestions?? I need a machine that parts can be sourced for easily as I am 4 hours away from the nearest tech. Not opposed to vintage, long as they have decent clearing distance, are a roller foot, and get at least 10 spi. Thx yal- 15 replies

I thought I replied to this smh. Thanks so much! I checked out the photos... Is replacing the presser foot bar difficult? Do you think that's all that would need to be changed? I won't have to move hooks etc. I'm 4 hours away from the closest machine tech so I'm trying to find a machine where parts are readily available and if need be I can fix myself. If if you have any other suggestions for roller foot machines please let me know!

Can a roller foot be attached to a 51w51?? Will be used for shoe uppers... Leather Python, canvas, possibly sting ray. There is one listed in my Craigslist, says its been sitting for 20 years though. Advice?

Great advice. I do have an extra bobbin case already on hand, I will use that one. So far still no luck on finding natural in 138 and cashew in 92. If i do find them they are conveniently out of stock! Ugh. I will keep looking though... Thanks!
-
I've got the scoop on we're to get the 69, thanks! So are you saying a 92 is thicker than 138?? I guess I assumed since the number is higher that signifies the larger thread size. Maybe I'm wrong?? and yes I'm sure they won't look the exact same. Just wondering if there is something I can do to ensure they just look clean on the back. Or did I misread and you're saying you'd go thicker than 138? from my understanding 138 is my limit.

Hey guys, im going to start making some wallets and have a question on thread. I'm going to buy some Hermann oak veg tan and machine stitch some card holders. I have a consew 206rb. I'm wanting to get 138 thread in a natural color to go along with the color of the vegtan, but so far I've only been finding poly and not nylon (in natural color). I've read what they're both used best for, but I just want to know that my consew can in fact sew out poly?? Also, can natural poly thread hold dye? I'll be doing some patinas eventually as well. Also, does anyone have tips on how I can make sure my stitches look good on the back as well as the front? I've never sewn anything over v69. Pic is for reference, it's not my work, just the finish I'll be looking for! Thanks!

I was with you up until that last paragraph haha. Im just going to buy the size 18s and see where it takes me first. While i I have an audience, what are your thoughts on decorative needles?? I found a cool link online describing some needle types that can make different types of holes in leather. I thought these needles could add a nice touch to my wallets since they will be machine stitched, although I plan to hand finish the ends of the thread. Are those speciality needles a no no for this machine?? Could it give me tension issues?
-
I've been waiting on you to comment! Thanks! Ok I will stick to an 18 then. I'll just save these 16s for whenever I get my post roller. I do plan to make some wallets very soon, so I guess I will use this #22 for the 138 as you've suggested. So do I still need to adjust my hook like Eric recommended??
-
Lol. Now I did know better than that. But progress is progress! It would just be great if I could use this size 16 without having to make adjustments. But such is life!
-
Thanks a lot, but my stitching actually looks like crap lol. I mean it looks 5 star in certain angles, other places it looks like a 5 year old mashed the peddle. But I've only been sewing for a few months so I'm proud of my progress thus far. Next step is saving for a post bed because I just can't see where I'm going on a flatbed cuz my foot is in the way. And yes a consew 206 is a flat bed single needle

Yes!! This is helpful bob, thanks!! But, I still have an extra disk on mine. I have 3 (I think). I'll have to post a photo when I get home. I was going to call you later today lol, do you have any used post bed roller foots in stock?? Thx, yes I saw the video of the guy who was wrong lol, actually watched a few times. I will check out this link you just posted!
-
Mike thanks for letting me know that. I tried uploading the photo the regular way, unfortunately the leather workers photo upload size is simply way too small, and after cropping my photo several times it was still way too big, so it is what it is. This upload size is simply way too small and it would be great if the forum allowed for bigger. Until then I'm not sure what else can be done. Also if ppl think Facebook and Instagram are the only ways they can be tracked on the Internet, I'm afraid they are sadly mistaken lol.

I don't have a 20, just the 22 that was in the machine and the 16s I bought shortly after I got it. I I will try the 20 and 18 as you suggested, and I will check out that link for moving the hook as well. I'm getting into shoemaking and I'm just trying to get my machine to hold me over until I can afford a post bed. Thanks for the help!

Great advice here. Can someone with the same tension disk as the Consew post a photo of which disk they place the thread between?? Do you pull the thread over the little knob on the right of the disk?? I I have a manual. It's not clear enough. When I turn the knob on the tensioner it gets harder to turn, but nothing is actually happening between the disks, which is why I'm wondering if I'm even placing the thread between the correct one. Thx And for the original poster, I have the same machine and had the SAME problems 6 months ago. Adjusting the top tension solved months worth of issues in like 4 seconds lol
