  1. I was gonna call you guys yesterday but you have such weird hours lol. Do you guys sell a piping/roller foot that can attach to a tacsew 563 (juki copy)? Im looking for some feet and i guess proper feed dogs I can put on that wont mark up veg tan leather?? Thanks
  2. Found this thread right on time... Im looking at getting a servo for a Tacsew L1 or T1563 i found on craigslist (this is the Juki 563 clone WITH reverse right??) I would most likely be installing it myself... Anybody have suggestions, or will the Family Sew that Kovar sells still good enough? Backstory: I will be sewing 3-5 oz leathers like Horween essex/Dublin etc, some veg tan as well, also leathers as thin as Lamb/pig/and python skin. Sewing the uppers to replace on sneakers. I dont think i should need a reducer... At least i hope not. Thanks!
  3. Hey I appreciate that. Do you have an Instagram where I can scroll through more of your work?
  4. Man that's super nice good job. Can anybody link me to someone who sells calfskin and kid(goat) skin in the states... Seems to be hard to find for me at least (veg tan kidskin specifically). Thx and really nice work!
  5. Another group member found me a Tacsew L1563 in great condition on Craigslist... It has original clutch motor though and I want a servo... Any suggestions on what to get? Also, would you say the tacsew would fall in the line of affordable for parts as well?? I agree with u more and more on the price of that Juki. Its a tad bit high... And thanks for everything really appreciate it!
  6. Yes a post bed would be best but I don't have post bed money. I had decided on getting a singer 29 series but ive waited much to long for the person to service the machine so I'm ready to move on. I wish there was a place I could go to sit at some machines and test them out but there aren't any and if they are they are hours away. So right now I'm just try a to make an educated guess. Many recon artist either have 2 or all 3 (patcher, post, flat) but most have the flat and post. My plan is to get the flat then use the revenue from that to get a post bed roller foot. I watched that timing video, seriously superb job! Also watched u sewing that thick veg tan... I'm using u changed ur foot and feed dogs as well? If it were u, you had 6-700 bucks and only knew the information that we've talked about so far, which route would go? Keeping in mind that you are going to upgrade machines at some point?
  7. Wow. Didn't know this didn't have reverse! Thanks for that! I guess that's not a deal breaker I could always flip the material around. Ok I will be sure to ask those questions. And your right I will need to get comfortable with the machine myself. On the feed dogs I wanted to ask, will that or the leather foot mark leather?? I will also be using garment leathers like lamb skin and pig skin to line the sneakers with... It won't tear it up will it? I'm about to watch those videos now...
  8. Hmmm. Well I have read that most leather workers do not want a machine that goes fast anyway. So I guess I'm back to the 562. I know that I would like to be able to comfortably sew 5/6 oz veg tan leather and also stingray, and I know a machine built for speed is not gonna do well with either of those, especially stingray. This 562 at least has a servo motor that I can set speed at so that's great, so I don't need quick, I'd rather have the accuracy. So what should I be looking for when I test this 562? I've read one place to check and see if it reverses in the same place, anything else?
  9. Hey, what did you decide on?? I too am looking at the Ddl 8700 to see the uppers for sneakers until I can afford a post bed. Was wondering if this machine worked out for you!?
  10. Well first I want today that I love all of you, like in a brother sister kind of way. Now that that's over, @Sark9 I'm not in a financial or knowledgable situation to buy a machine that's not practically ready to run. I did contact the guy for that Ddl 8700 though, I love that price lol. But my question to you is why is this newer Juki so much cheaper then the consew and 562? Can the Ddl handle at least 5-6 oz of leather (and eventually stingray too)? This was actually the first machine I started looking at a year ago because a popular sneaker artisan used this before he moved on to a post bed, he had a Ddl 8700-7 though. (Also thanks for that visual comparison and guide!) @Uwe, thanks for that. As a person whose never sewn before this can be quite overwhelming. $700 is a lot of money (to me) so I just want to make sure I'm not putting money into a machine that would be obsolete. If I could get this guy down to $600 would that be a better deal, and would u recommend the 562 over the Ddl 8700? @TinkerTailor thanks for that explanation. It probably didn't make sense because I asked wrong lol I've never sewn before. I just knew that there were 2 different size threads being used at once and I was wondering why. Also thanks so much for the run list on how to keep mistakes down, and telling me how to fix the I ran out of bobbin thread mistake. I'm sure this is gonna come in handy I appreciate everybody very much!! Last but not least does anybody know what size the bobbin is on the Ddl? Is it bigger then the 562? I know we've established how to get around this issue but considering this guy is selling a barely used one for 450 I'm really starting to lean that way. I do know know a Juki is a good machine I'd just appreciate a little reassurance from ppl who know what they're doing, and in regards to what I will be using the machine for.
  11. Here is the pic of the machine and what comes with it... Guy is like an hour away from me
  12. Hey thanks for the reply!... I'm located on Ohio. I wasn't planning on paying the $700, it's been sitting on craigslist for about a month so I was gonna offer about 6,625 and see what he says... I don't think he's in a rush to sell but if I can get it lower that's what I'm gonna go for. I can tell it's been used but it's not been trashed, I will find a pic and post it! Also thanks for the info that I can see the bobbin... I don't have the money to waste on material sewing something up only to run out of thread at the last second! I've never sewn anything in my life so this is all new to me. I just need a machine to get me started until I can afford a post bed. I will be sewing shoe uppers mostly so I'll be using #69 bonded nylon, but I might do some wallets as well at some point, #138 may be better for that I guess... Also, I see that ppl use combos of thread sizes, you kinda mentioned it. Using a small weight at the top and larger in the bobbin... Why do ppl do this?? Why not use the same size thread both ways? Does using a thicker weight on the bottom make a stronger stitch or something?? Thanks a lot
  13. The 562 could be a good place to start though right?? I mean does the bobbin run out in the middle of sewing or something? I've been planning to get a Singer patcher 29 series to reconstruct sneakers with but I'm starting to feel like I should just get a flat bed to sew the uppers instead (can't afford a post bed)... Found a 562 in good condition on Craigslist for 700$... Opinions??
  14. I'm pretty sure I know the big recon guy your referring too cuz I know him personally lol. Singer is a great machine, if u can find 1 in pristine condition. If you look through any shoemakers (not recon artist) IG page you will see a post led roller foot. Guarantee it. The patcher machine is just that, a patcher - to patch/repair. And in the time I posted that comment earlier and now I have changed my mind (for the 3rd time lol) and I'm gonna get and industrial flat bed instead. I'll use the revenue from that to the post bed later
  15. Ok thanks for all your help!
  16. Cool beans, I will get the Renia Colle then... Do i need thinner? If im using my and sealing my glue properly?? I planned on getting a glue pot too
  17. Post bed is the best machine for recon. Period. If you have the money get it... Also, im planning on getting a 29-4 to start out simply because its cheaper then the post. But if it wasnt, it would be no question. the stitching is far superior and the proper wheel wont mark leather... Singer patchers are so old its RARE to find 1 in pristine working condition... Personally i dont have 600$ to pay for a subpar works 85% of the time machine.. So once this guy is finally done with maintenance on it if it doesnt work properly i will just save that money and put it toward a post. Good luck.
  18. Hey art, which one smells better and works better?? Its sounds like your saying Max Bond i just want to be sure lol. Also where do you purchase the Max Bond? I have a whole finished attic that will be my workspace but since its an attic its not well ventilated... Have to have a glue that works but is also free of those bad and smelly chemicals
  19. Yo this was really informative... Im looking for a glue specifically for reattaching sneaker soles and this helped me alot... Was looking for something that works but also has low open time, 10 mins tops. The Renia website is a such a mess lol. Thanks
  20. So far ive only bought 1 set and i got them from a shoe cobbler
  21. My 29-4 should finally be ready at the end of the month... From my research it seems this model does not have this feature... I will check this out closely once Im actually in front of the machine though. And i agree with constabulary, would like to see some pics too!
  22. shelleyhuard@thetanneryrow.com The one listed above was missing an "E" in her name I believe.
  23. Thanks! I have to say the email address listed for her up there is INCORRECT, and I have since gotten in touch with her and the communication is great! This stuff is expensive so I havent ordered anything yet, cant comment on wait time for actual material, but at least theres someone on the other end of the line now so to speak...
  24. You need to get a Singer or Adler patcher machine. $600+. This will allow you to do simple things, such as replacing Nike checks etc, without having to take the whole shoe apart. Make money doing that then you can buy a flat bed or post bed to sew uppers. Good luck.
  25. Has anything changed here?? Contacting ppl from Horween is still painfully difficult... For me at least. This thread dates back several years, thats plenty of time to hire folks or switch up the inquiry system. Kind of disappointed that this is still the case (at this point). Thanks
