  1. Never seen anything on this and I've done it for quite some time. I have trouble holding repetitive position stamps like Basket Weave and Veiners along Borders and keeping them accurate due to old hands being caloused, slick and not having the grip I once had, to prevent slippage and bounce I wrap the handles of my Stamps with 2-3 layers of masking tape or painters paper tape, it provides a better gripping surface and allows me more control of the tools. Don't know if this is good for everyone but I thought it might help some older carvers or folks with a weak grip. Ken
  2. The main problem I had with All-in-one is on large pieces such as a Guitar Strap, when you had to go back to the bottle, the dye you had already rubbed on set and the new dye didn't match making it "Blotchy" and uneven. I think it is becuase of the automatic finish the All-in-one brags about. It may work for very small pieces like conchos up to say coasters, after that you're taking a real chance with it ruining a good project. With other dyes you can reapply until you get them even and you can remove some of the pigment before it dries if it gets too "heavy", you lose that control with All-in-one. Just my oppionion, Ken
  3. Nice work, I tried the All-in-one dyes and threw them out, I do use some Tandy Dyes but only the Highlighters, they give you the same effect but you can control the color and eveness better, only difference is then you need to put a finish on them. Now I mostly use angelus dyes and fiebings Antiquing but I still use the Tandy Hi-Lite dyes from time to time. Ken
  4. I'm astounded, beautiful and very detailed and a very accurate depiction of the Eagle, Globe and Anchor (EGA). Just when I thought Sheridan Carving was the only way to make leather truely beautiful, you turn me around. The lettering and coloring is amazing. Ken
  5. Great, SOWEGA is SOuth WEst GeorgiA, and Tifton is in SOWEGA. Welcome aboard Y'all. Ken
  6. Welcome aboard, post some pictures of the saddle skirt. You'll love this site lots of info and great techniques share. I'm from SOWEGA (Tifton, GA) where in Middle Ga are you? Ken
  7. My Carving Bench, Dying Bench and Sewing Bench are all 36" high, the Carving area comes out about 39" after I place a rubber Poundo Mat then a Granite Slab on it. I stand some and set some on a work stool. I'm not as tall as some of the folks (around 5' 9") so it works pretty well for me. Ken
  8. They hold up very well using the flaps inside, I've made several and have another on the bench now. I've attached a picture of the inside. I fully line the inside and then put the two flaps in I make them 5.5" wide (this is for a full size Bible, my rule of thumb is to have the flap cover between 1/2 and 2/3 of the Bible cover on each side), the back is 1" longer and wider than the Bible and that gives you a 1/2" margin all the way around. Ken
  9. Thanks Bluesman, I was keeping it in the plastic hanging box it came in and I knew it wouldn't last too much longer. I also like the idea of holding it by the leather grip when using. I saw this on a Tandy video that George Hurst did. Ken
  10. can't tell from the picture would need a shot of the underside, but it appears to be either an edge beveler or a V gouge. Ken
  11. Got tired of trying to find a good place to keep my glass burnisher so I made a case for it and I just put it on my tool wall. It also provides a grip for holding the burnisher when you're using it. Ken
  12. I've been on this site for quite some time now and I just retired so I thought I might search the members and see if anyone was close by to start communicating, exchanging notes, maybe start a guild, etc. But the member filters require you to put specific info, such as Georgia just gets members who listed Georgia, not Atlanta, Georgia, Tifton, Ga, etc. If you are from Georgia and work with leather reply with your city to get an idea who and where we all are. I'm from Tifton, GA down in the Southwest Corner of the State. Ken
  13. X2 what twinoaks says. Keep in mind that necessity is the mother of invention, I suspect if you look around you'll find things you could do with leather. Knife Case for your folding knife Cell Phone Case Cover for a book or a Bible Cover for your head knife. The list is only limited to your imagination. My wife helps me figure out what I'm going to tackle next because she constantly nags me to make her this and make her that. Ken
  14. Tandy's web site has free videos, many of them, and one is on double loop lacing. Ken
  15. I use a snap setter, it is a little pricey but with all the dies I have I can set 20, 24, rivets, and a myriad of other stuff. Every one is perfect and they look professional. Easy as a snap! Ken
  16. I've been making a few of these lately, this is the third one this month. Ken
  17. Sherlockian, Thanks for the nice comments, I'm working hard to improve the carving, it's coming some but slow. I have a long way to go. Ken
  18. Coasters work well for beginner children's classes, let them stamp their name on the coaster they get the feel of pounding leather, make a useful item they can give their moms. Doesn't require a lot of tools, one mallet, one set of alphabetic stamps, water, a small bag of wool daubers, small bottle of water based dye so it comes off them easier, small bottle of super sheen, and prepunched coasters, Tandy sells them in large project packages. Ken
  19. Thanks, I don't make my own interiors yet, that is another whole ball of wax for me. I did add a sewing machine to sew light leathers to go along with my Boss. I would like to make them but so many things inside, zippered pockets, id windows, etc. This one is a Tandy Kit, I buy some interiors from Tandy and put my own backs on them but Tandy doesn't sell this inside with the strap. I would love to find a good source for them as well. Ken
  20. Made a couple of these, sold em all except one my wife has they seem popular and my niece is graduating high school so I thought I'd make her something for graduating. Ken
  21. Great work, realistic looking rocks etc. I hate doing scenes, I never get them to come out right. I'm jealous!! Ken
  22. Check's in the mail! Thanks for the comments. Ken
  23. Thanks Bluesman, It doesn't stay that way all the time I'll assure you. Ken
  24. Here are a few shots of mine. Ken
