  2. Very nice!! I have the same book and I love it!! Taught one of my leather minions to do a belt this past weekend with one of the knots on it. She had to trace it the full length of the belt. I will post pix when she gets it done. Keep carving!! William
  3. That is very freaking cool!!!!!!!!! I love it!
  4. Hey folks! As I have mentioned in a few posts here and there, I am teaching the Leather Merit Badge at a Boy Scout camp the Friday thru Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The camp has only a handful of stamps and I have been told by the person who taught it last year that the one complaint she had was that the Scouts didn't have a variety of stamps to put on their work. They have very very few. The camp has no money to buy any and my wife has put a stop to me buying any more extra tools for them. Something about feeding our kids and paying bills first....... If anybody out there has any duplicate stamps or extra handtools they could donate, the Scouts would greatly appreciate it!!! PM me and I can give you my info or if you would rather send it direct to the camp, I can provide the Camp Rangers info. Anything and everything is appreciated!!!! Thanks! William
  5. Looks great!!! Keep posting pics!!! cal
  6. Hey guys and gals! Need a little input. I saw a leather tool box (on here I think) that had a standard stamp block with snaps around the edges and a leather box that attached to the snaps to make a portable stamp tool box. I will be teaching the Leather Merit Badge at a Boy Scout winter camp the week of of Thanksgiving (Friday to Wednesday). I also teach classes at our monthly camp-outs a few times a year so I need a good way to cart my toys...I mean, tools around. I keep outgrowing and/or breaking the normal little tool boxes so I decided to divide them into more than one box and make them myself. I want to start with a box to carry my stamps and hand tools. I am thinking of using one large vegtan hide, cut it out as a single piece and then groove the four folds for nice corners. This will allow me to put little straps on the inside of the box sides to attach my shears, edge bevelers and such. I can then flip the top upside down and inside out to make a little stand up tool rack with these other tools on it. I can put snaps and straps around the bottom corners for support if needed. This design should let me carry all my little toys...I mean, tools in this case and then use a regular tool box (for now) for my bottles of dyes and such. I want it to last and be durable. What weight leather do you think the cover needs to be made of? Please have a look at the attached drawing and let me know what ya think. cal
  7. Are you the one on the left??? cal
  8. And there're done!!! Thought you folks might like to see the finished products. They ladies were over this weekend and they finished their corsets. They added the boning and got em all laced up! They will both be adding a different lace before they wear them with their costumes. We just used wax thread to get them laced and check everything. Remember that the ladies did 90% of the work on this themselves and that this was a first project for them both. They are not perfect but the ladies were both ecstatic and loved their outcome. They are both comfortable and do not think they will have any issues wearing them for a full weekend at the Ren Fest. The young lady in blue even wore hers up to Tandy to show it off to Tena (Tandy Manager) who has been helping with advice too. They are also working on matching chokers and fingerless gloves made from the leftover suede. I have enjoyed helping them and I will be making one for my wife soon. We are going to the TX Ren Fest on Nov 15th and so I have to have it finished by then!! Thanks for all the advise (especially Tasha & Tina)!!! Please let me know what ya think! cal
  9. I think it turned out great! That color really jumps out at ya! Great job! cal
  10. One word.....bambi. Yum!! Oh wait...was that two words?? Well there weas a period after the first....so it could count as one word...... But yum followed it...so I guess it is two words.... ok, lets start over... Two words..... bambi yum!!!! cal
  11. I rememeber using the same stuff while I was int he Army Brad!! But these guys can't use it. Their regs state it has to be Clarino or they can't wear it while in uniform. Hence the need for custom phone cases and such..... Thanks for the reply! cal
  12. Clarino! That's it! Thanks Tasha for the name and the Ebay hit! I have a few Ebay auctions marked now and I am keeping an eye on them. That stuff is expensive...... A small piece to cover the standard leather of a cellphone case is $15. Add in the standard leather, labor, etc...your talking a $50+ cellphone case. More if he wasn't a friend...lol I'll let yall know how things progress. Thanks again!!! cal
  13. I love it! The colors are great!! cal
  14. Hey guys, This is not really a holster question but I felt it was the best place to post it. I have a police buddy who wants me to make a few custom pouches for his gunbelt. If they are good enough and he likes them, then this COULD lead to more business from our local men in blue. Any pouch on his belt has to be made from the type of leather that my old military class A shoes were made from. Always shiny, no matter what. I always heard it called chorafram. He wasnt real sure of the name. He said it is was 'clara-something'...lol My local Tandy rep wasnt sure and couldn't find anything in the catalog that was that shiny. Any ideas?? cal
  15. Thanks! I've found them and are watchign them now... Wish me luck! cal
  16. Very nice!! I love it!!! cal
  17. Never heard of a cat belt Timbo... Jack likes helping my son with his chores as you can see from the attached photo. He was only about 35 inches in this pic. That was our graduation repel after only 4, 1 hour sessions. Day 1 was in class lessons on gear, day 2 we went off a 15 ft rock the first day, 35 ft on day 2, 50ft on day 3....... Then the 90ft on the last day! I loved it!!!!!!!! cal
  18. Now we don't have any 'mountain trail on horseback' photos, but here is a pic of my son and I repellin goff a 90ft cliff together last summer at Buffalo Trails Scout Camp in West Texas. Just for a size comparision, notice the 6ft tall guy standing at the top of the cliff...... cal P.S. And for those of you that have asked about my avatar....the last picture is my 50" iguana Jack! I tell him all the time that if he doesn't behave I know how to make a belt outa his scaley butt!!
  19. Hey folks! These pix are from last year, but they are the best group shot we got..... This is myself, my wife, my two sons and my oldest son's girlfriend with the blue hair! She spend the summer in California so we visited for a week and went to Disneyland and Medieval Times. cal
  20. Thanks bro!!! I search ebay and couldnt find any!! I've seen the stencils at Tandy but the stamps are great!!!! cal
  21. Great advise there Whinewine!!! I checked their website and they have a vehicle section! About 8 different cars, trucks and planes...... Called them and they have been discontinued!!!! DOH!!!! LOL Any others out there??? cal
  22. I've done a few seraches for BARON TOOL LA on the web but havent found them yet. May be gone or jsut under a different name. Most sites I have found sell the normal brand that Tandy sells too. Could you stamp a piece of scrap and post the image Kevin? I would love to see what they look like! Thanks for your help!!
  23. Correct, it doesn't not pull in as tight as what you think a corset would, but she did not want it tight either. We have discussed making the back section about 2" narrower to give her more lacing room. She is going to wear it on Halloween and see how it feels over her costume and then decide if she wants to tighten it up before the Ren Fest trip in Nov. She and the other young ladies will be back this Friday to work other items. We should have the black corset ready then. It is a little smaller on the young lady it is made for, but it does have lacing room. She did not want to tighten hers any as it still gives her a little room to grow. They are making matching chokers, fingerless gloves, belt pouches, etc etc from their leftover leather. I will post more pix this weekend. Keep the thoughts coming and I will keep passing them along to the ladies. Cal
  24. Thanks Surveyor! I have two myself and you're right. First thing they did with anything was taste it....lol. And evendently it takes them a bit to determine if it tastes good or now before they spit it out..... I guess I will drop the rattle item from the mocs as well and just make him the mocs. As a replacement gift, what do yall think about a bib that fastens behind the neck and maybe around the back as well. This will hold it down so he cant put it in his mouth. I could carve his name etc and then super sheen it 2-3 times (inside and out) to seal it up real good. I may be beating the dead horse now, but this is for a single mother of four boys who can't afford many gifts. If yall think the bib idea is too risky still, then I may stick with the mocs and then make a leather door/wall hanger with his name. Any thoughts on the bib??? cal
  25. I am making some bookmarks for a 10 yr old boy who loves cars!!!! Saw a motorcylce stamp at Tandy but no car....... Searched Ebay as well......nada. Does anybody have a good source for stamps other than Tandy?? cal
