  1. Very nice work there Carr! I love the smooth 'simple' look of the case. I love making cases for my tools. Did you use a pattern or just lay the pliers down and trace around them? Did you dye the lighter of the two cases or jsut put soem sheen on it to protect it? cal
  2. These look great Vera!! I love them!! I don't think I have the patience to do that must carving!! I made a pair of wrist bracers earlier this year but I was not happy with them. I think I will try your 'stud' design on the back for my next pair. Looks a lot better than lacing them up one handed! cal
  3. Looks great Leathernut! I have made several of my favorite little pieces outa scrap. Can't wait to see the two new ones you are working on. cal
  4. Very nice work there LadyEvyl! The handle looks well done and very tight. How does it handle? cal
  5. Looks wonderful Nick! Most of the pieces I started out on last year (and still doing) are cases for my tools whose 'factory provided' nylon cases fall apart. Your's look great! I have big 'fumble fingers' so do not feel alone when you see what some of these guys can do with carving! Keep up the good work and keep posting those pix!! cal
  6. WONDERFUL work there Kevin!! cal
  7. Hey folks! Attached are a few pix of a hatchet head cover I recently finished. This was the first piece I used creases on to make the nice corners. I also put a flap and snap on the back so it will attach to my belt easily. I hand carved a standard rope design on the front and flap just to give it a lil flare. The was the first piece where I dyed something other than black. Getting the dye color even can be a pain... lol I am almost finished with a full size ax head cover. I will upload pix of it when it is done. Let me know what ya think! cal
  8. Looks great JBird! What did you do on the inside? Is it one large open space or do you have it divided? Did you dye and finish the inside of the case? I would love to see an inside shot. I have been tossing around the idea of making a toolbag to carry my power saws in. It would be several cases so each saw has their own case. But I know once I start....I won't stop until ALL my tools have their own case... Great work buddy! cal
  9. Looks great!!!!!! Good job!
  10. Thanks for the help folks!! I will keep these ideas in mind as I WILL mess up the dye job again....grin I am posting pics of this project in the Critque My Work forum. Please have a look and provide suggests to help me improve. Thanks again!!! cal
  11. What type of patterns do they normally have? Is it mostly 'western' style items? cal
  12. Well it came out a little lighter. I didn't have a brush so I used a white cloth and there was a little visable transfer on the cloth. After I let it dry it came out ok. Still a little darker than I originally wanted, but it'll work! Thanks for the help! I will post a pic in the 'critique forum' after I am finished. Thanks agian!! cal
  13. Cool! I'll go try it real quick and see how it comes out. Thanks!! cal
  14. It's a small piece. A key fob I am making for practice and as a small gift. It is small enough to go into a small bowl of water. If it lightens with moisture, would it be best to soak it a bit or to just get it wet and let it sit for a little before wiping it off? cal
  15. Hey folks, I need a lil quick advice. I am doing one of my first carved/dyed leather projects. Got it all carved and put the dye on. It looks a little darker than I wanted. I am using an Eco-Flo tan dye and I have not put the Super Shene on it yet. Is there a good way to lighten it?? Maybe soaking it in water for awhile? Any ideas? Cal
  16. Wonderful tutorials!! Thanks for posting them Tiff!! cal
  17. Thanks guys! I will check out both and see what they offer. Thanks agian! cal
  18. That looks outstanding Azmal!! Do you have a full set you use with that or do you wear it over an outfit?? cal
  19. Hey Ken, I practically live at the Tandy and they don't know of one. And my search for 'leather guild houston tx' came up with several 'alternative lifestyle' groups that wear lotsa leather ...... You'd figure the 4th largest city in the country would have at least one lether work guild...especially being in Texas. Guess i'll just have to start my own! cal
  20. Correct Russ! Those were from the local Tandy.Roger, from the Pasadena TX Tandy, held my hand (sometimes literally) as I worked on those first several pieces. It was all his fault! Or that is what I tell my wife when I come home with triple digit receipts once a month....hehehe cal Thanks Spider! I plan on making a hat and boots to match before the Ren Fest this fall. I tried to make the pouch green and black, but I couldnt get the green even so I jsut covered it in black.....I am gonna go to Tandy next time for a little hands on training for the dieing process.cal
  21. Hey guys, I am looking for a leather guild in the Houston, TX area. I haev searched the web but can nto find one. Does anybody know of a guild or even a good group of folks to point me towards? If there are any Houston are folks on here who are interested, I would love to hook up and swap ideas and war stories ! cal
  22. wonderful work Azmal! My sons just recently got into D&D and are into armour and all that stuff now (took them long enuf..heheh). I am going to show them your work when they get home later. I am sure they will love it as much as we all do! Good work man!! cal
  23. Here are a few more pictures of some of my work. Ren Fest belt and pouches- The belt overlaps in the front and hooks on studs on both sides: This shows the main belt pouch and a small side pouch for cash, cellphone, glasses, etc. Both are rigid and stand out out on their own. I made them like a pair of saddlebads I saw at the local Tandy shop. Some basic lace up gaunlets: This is a soft sided pouch I made for my wife. I stichted a large panel on the back instead of cutting belt slits into the pouch itself: I hope to post more pics as I get more done! cal
  24. I moved my pics to the 'show off' gallery.... Have a look at them there! cal
