  1. Hey folks! I am helping some friends of my sons make leather corsets. They are wanting to make a few different styles, all to be worn on the outside of their Ren Fest outfit to add to their 'appeal'. Most will be around the abdomen only, but one will have straps over her shoulders too.... Most will have lacing in front and on the side, using a standard 3 piece design. One of the young ladies is very 'curvie' and has a few 'love handles' around the waist and she also wants it to look like black armour so I have her working with some vegtan. She plans dye it black and to add some studs and lace to it for decorations. This will have lacing in the front and hooks inthe back (subject to change, lol). The other young ladies are all shaped with slender waists and moderate curves. Our local Tandy rep suggested deer hide. I know this is very soft and comfortable, but it can be a little more expensive and cost is an issue for them. I have suggested using utility splits as they have the color options (without dyeing) and they are soft, yet strong. None of them want to carve or stamp, they will be decorating with lace and other bobbles...... They are coming over on Thursday afternoon to go purchase the leather, so I have about 24 hours. Any thoughts from the collective leathercrafter mind?? Any suggestions? cal

  12. Wonderful pieces!! The construction looks great! Some things you may want to make sure of in pieces like these (even tho I see nothing wrong in the picture) is the edges being slicked and the insides being sanded so they are soft. The lace holes are lined up very nice with a groove...there is just nothing in the picture that can be critiqued buddy! Thank look great!!!! cal

  16. I was able to open the first few patterns, but I could not open the pliers, hatchet case, knife case or eyeglass case. I got the standard 'bad link' screen. I tried right-clicking and everything. I do love the site tho! I get the skiver but having this source for nice copies of the patterns is great! My son has been looking for a sword frog pattern and this one is perfect!! Thanks for the link guys!!! cal

  21. Hey folks, I think the leather bug has finally bitten one of my boys!!! He is a big card player so when the Tandy newletter had a card case pattern last month, I reeled him in!!! He is 17 and did a leather knifecase a few years back at Scout Camp but I have not been able to get him to make anything since. Now that he has made the card case, he wants to make a sword belt and gaunlets. He put a standard Tandy concho on the front and did a design on the back with his initial on it. The side pic shows the stitching and such. I had him use a #7 roll marker and then punch the holes with a awl so the stitches would be good and strong. I attempted to teach him how to dye and his came out better looking than my dyed projects!! LOL He finished the case this morning. I am very proud of how it came out and wanted to show it off! cal
  22. Hey folks, I finished the mate to my hachet cover. The hachet cover and ax cover are very similar, but not quite copies of one another. I put a loop on the back of the ax cover so it can hang on the wall for easy storage. The hachet hangs on my belt which in turn hangs on the wall. Pix of the hachet cover are in a post I did earlier today. The Ax pix are attached here. I almost made the ax cover too small. You will see a few extra sticht holes near the handle. When I traced the ax head, I marked where the handle come out, but did not notice the handle curves forward right away. LOL I also barely had enough room for stitching, even tho I added a half inch around the head then came in a 1/4" to stitch. The head was a little thicker than I calculated. But, you live and learn! I am happy with how they came out and it gets my ax off a shelf in the garage and up onto a hook on the wall! Let me know what ya think! cal
  23. I live right by that store and Tena and her staff are WONDERFUL!!!! They have nursemaided me thru several projects over the last 8 months or so since I started. There is a beginner's case on Saturday mornings and a more advanced 'free work' case in the afternoon. Different folks show up to work on their project and share ideas. Welcome aboard Rick!! cal
