  1. OK ya buncha clowns...... How about thoughts on the actual question?? What do yall think about the mocs with a small rattle on the laces. Tandy sells the kits so do you think that are safe?!?!?!? cal
  2. Yeah, I've ditched the rattle idea. But what do yall think about the mocs? I have made and given baby mocs to friends....... Do you think they would be good? cal
  3. Thanks David, Any thoughts on the baby mocs with rattles on them? Tandy sells the baby moc kits (which I have made a few of) with some white and some brown leather in them. Is this leather something special or are they assuming the baby won't put his foot into his mouth???? My guys always chewed on their shoes when they were teething!!! lol cal
  4. Very good point Jo! LEt's scrap teh vegtan idea....(no pun intended). How about taing small pieces of colored upolstrey hide and sewing it together, then covering a store bought rattle. This is something she really wants for the baby to be able to play with.....but safety first as always. A second thought...evilgrin....is a pair of baby mocs that can slid onto his feet with small rattlers attached to them! Thoughs? cal
  5. I have a customer who wants a leather baby rattle for her 6 month old. I have never made one before so I am throwing my thoughts out to the collective mind for some input.... I torn between two styles: a. Covering a store bought rattle with leather scraps sewn together...various colors and such to hold the baby's attention. b. Make a vegtan rattle from scratch with a leather-covered ring (4" or so) with a sealed area that will have the rattlers in it. I want it colorful, but I do not want to use any paint on it as it will go right to the mouth!! lol I have about $25 to $30 to spend on this so I want to make it top-notch! What yall think?? cal
  6. I'm a little confused too....... Can somebody explain slowly in small words please???? Thanks! cal
  7. VERY VERY NICE!! I was speaking with a friend tonight that wants to do a leather book cover for a photo album...I think I will pass your photos along for her to see how you did this. Good job! cal
  8. Nice work!! I love the color you used on the leather!! I think I see what my next tool case project will look like...... cal
  9. Thanks Tasha! I will pass this link onto her. cal
  10. Hey Lobo. Check your PMs buddy. cal
  11. Hey Lobo, Nice holster! I do very little of the high-end carving and decorative leatherwork. Like yours, I enjoy the functional elegant pieces. A nice smooth beautiful tool case or knife sheath is a work of art in my eyes. I would love to see more of your work. Do you have a website? Cal
  12. I think great work like that looks correct no matter which period you are in!! Nice job!
  13. I love it Ed!! I hane nice bag/toolbag on my list of someday projects...I only hope mine comes out half as nice as yours did! Great work buddy!! cal
  14. Thanks 24878! I think she looks great in it! She is still workign on the rest of the outfit. They will be over to work on other items sometime with-in the next week. I will have her bring it with her to take the hands down photo. The shoulders laid nice and flat on top. It is a little loose. As you can see in the pic, it is laced pretty much closed and it is just snuggling up good. She is a lil modest and this was the effect she was going for. She did not want it tight like the sample picture posted at the beginning of the thread. She will be wearing a peasant top under it so that will add a lil more material under it. She is wearing a swimsuit under it in this photo. We did lace the front backwards...started at the top and worked down. I pointed this out and she is going to correct that when she puts the real lacing in. She is working on a matching collar, fingerless gloves and a belt pouch from the leftover material. It is not boned at all. That is just the single layer material pieces posted earlier. She may add boning to it later if it gaps or folds up on her. The most important thing that satisfied me is that she did 90% of the work (I punched most of the holes) and that she loved the finished product!!! She was all smiles after we got her laced in and she saw it in the mirror. She is now planning on a cartridge pouch to make and give her father for Christmas. Another one hooked and landed by the leather fish!! cal
  15. Update on the corsets!! Ok folks, we have one complete. The young lady will be adding some decoration maybe and some proper lacing (instead of the round leather thong) but it is 99% finished!!! What ya think??? cal
  16. Tandy has two real nice moc boot patterns. I have made the fringed Native American style from their pattern and I am making a pair of the Frontiers Man boots now. They are both maded from chap&moc leather. I have made a few 'self engineered' knee-high mocs and low top boots. I combined several different patterns I found on the web to get the designs I wanted. You can find a number of free moc patterns on the web, but the Tandys patterns are nice because they have instructions and everything with them and you can lay them out and start cutting without too much prep. The one warning is that their sizes run about one small. So be careful when you pick which size you intend to make. Their list of patterns as at the following: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/products.asp?dept=65 Look in the 'reenactment' section of the forum. There was a recent thread about mocs there with lotsa links posted. Hope this helps. cal
  17. Nice!! I love it!! I recently purchased a horn like this from the local Tandy. I plan to do the same type of rig on mine. could you possible pass on the pattern you use? Does it snap around the horn or are the snap riveted and the rig slids on and off?? Why are the horns on opposite side??? I'm gonna have to make mine real soon now!! cal
  18. Her piece is made from vegtan. It is actually going to be more of a rather large belt...at least that is how it is working out. She has it dye, prepped and dyed already. She needs toi sheen it and add the eyelets, then she will decorate it with bobbles or conchos or whatever stricks her fancy.... She has changed her mind a few times at to whether the two pieces will be laced together in the back or buckled.... I am trying to talk her into either buckles in the front or back one, because this is a rather large item and if she has to go to the restroom in a hurry, unlacing it might not go as fast as she wants......... More to follow! cal
  19. Your stuff always looks great Tina!! I love the new site and the items you have there!! Keep up the wonderful work! cal
  20. I love the bags and the armour!!! My son's have been working on some armour and changed their design several times. If they ever finish it, maybe I will get to post a pic!! lol Good job Deneken!! cal
  21. Hey folks, This thread went kinda dead the last few weeks as we all ran from and are recovering from Ike. The ladies should be back over this weekend or one evening next week and we will continue our work. We will be modifying some of the designs based on suggestions from Tasha and Tina (not all us men are hardheaded...hehe). I'll keep yall posted how it all progresses. cal P.S. Tina & Tasha, your comments and help are ALWAYS welcome!!!
  22. It was a good project to work on. I have been wanting to make a hat for awhile, but all the patterns I coudl find were the standard television style musketeer big brim things..... I will be starting a second one soon for a member here. His will have coyote or fox fur instead of the suede lining I have on mine. Thanks for the comments guys! cal
