  1. how thick would that be when its all said and done? My friends and I dont carry heavy guns at the moment, my edc is a ruger sr9c and my friends both carry springfield xd's (9mm). so what your saying is herman oak is good leather for a belt then? because thats what they are made out of.
  2. well springfield leather claims their belts should work well as gun belts.. as in these ones.. http://springfieldleather.com/18888/Belt-Blank%2CSnaps%2C1-1-2%22x48-52%22/ i thought i would try a few of those before attempting to make my own from scratch. id rather not stitch an entire belt by hand if i don't have to
  3. does everyone stitch the edges of the gun belts they make? I can see that taking a looong time by hand.
  4. So I've been looking on Springfield leathers site for stuff to buy and i wanted to get some thread... i never knew there were so many options!! What do i get? All I'm going to be making is sheaths, holsters and wallets at the moment, and it will all be hand stitched.. Thanks in advance for your help. I plan on picking everyone's brain around here to learn as much as I can.
  5. I couldn't find them on springfield leathers site, guess I'll have to go to Tandy
  6. to those who make gun belts for everyday carry and such... do you punch oval holes for the belt adjustment holes or not? and if you do, where did you get the punch? all i see are circular ones.
  7. What is the most common oblong punch size for a standard gun belt? I want to make a few belts but don't want to buy a bunch of oblong punches at once because they aren't cheap. thanks
  8. Has anyone made any YouTube videos on the stamp making process? I've looked and haven't really found any
  9. No idea on the size, I wasn't sure if there's a "most of the time I use this" answer. I have never made a belt before and I wanted to make one for my friend, he will probably use his own buckle anyway.
  10. What is the standard size oblong punch used for belts? I see there are a bunch of options for size but I don't want to buy a ton of them, I just need 1 for the belt. thanks in advance
  11. Last night I was trying to cut out a small keychain pattern on some really thick leather , like 3.2mm. and I was having trouble cutting it straight, as in the edges looked like crap. I was using a small xacto knife, should I use a bigger utility knife? like the construction style?
  12. THANKS FOR SHARING! Just what I've been looking for!
  13. The plan was to trim the edges closer but when i realized my mistake, i needed the extra space for the other stitching. I also did attept to bevel and finish the edges, but i dont know what i did wrong. This leather WAS from a michaels scrap bag though, so who knows what im working with
  14. This is my first real attempt at making anything. its a mag carrier...few things to explain... as soon as i attached the clip on the back and tried it on, the weight of it immediately made it swivel down, which is why i had to put the ugly black piece of leather on the back. any suggestions on another clip to use? I also would like to know how people measure where to put snaps and such? i tried to get close but obviously i screwed that up. is it ugly? yes is it functional? yes did i learn something from it? yes
  15. hello everyone, anyone else from my neck of the woods? Just starting in leather crafting, just practicing stitching and making key chains for now.. still gathering the tools.

has anyone used theclip.com before? I'm looking to buy some belt clips and rivets for them and was wondering how many use them and their experience? If anyone knows of better prices let me know. thanks
  17. I'm wondering if plans or "blueprints" so to speak exist for leathercraft projects. Id like to make a few things like mag carriers and such, and i feel like something like that would be helpful to me. im not sure if im making any sense, im sorry if im not.
