  1. http://www.conchos.com/beltbuckles.html You could give these guys a try. I haven't bought from them so I can't vouch.
  2. I was thinking about buying some old letterpress metal type, making a jig to hold it then pressing it with a 12 ton hydraulic shop press, but nothing every goes as smoothly as you think it will.
  3. Ed, Did you end up figuring this out? I need to put some type (poem) on a wedding album and need to figure out what to do.
  4. Is the needle facing the right direction?
  5. I got her book from the library. It's a really good read.
  6. That's funny because in Wickenburg I watched one of the Artisan salesmen tell the friend I was with that there wasn't going to be much of a difference between the old and the new. I guess we'll see when the new one comes out.
  7. Art, Thanks for the info. How much would a servo and speed reducer cost? How hard is it to make the changes? Steve
  8. I have a few questions about a sewing machine. I'd appreciated any info you can give me. Is the CONSEW 255RB-3 good for leather? Is $650 a decent price? The ad says "High speed, single needle, walking foot with a large bobbin. Reversible complete with Table and clutch motor. 110 v." Thanks in advance, Steve
  9. Congrats. That's very cool. The handles look like something I'd like on an Amp if I was going to buy one.
  10. It sounds like you could start something really cool.
  11. It seems like you would already have leather working shows in England considering you have at least two leather museums and the cordwainers college over there. Are you talking about doing a only "Western" leather show?
  12. Thanks Elton. He has a website beckmansaddles.com some nice scroll work for sure.
  13. Very nice Anne, I've see you finished the recipe book since Monday.
  14. Thanks for the pointers Troy. I'll keep workin' on it.
  15. Wow Troy that is some great work and exactly what I'm talking about. I can only dream about being able to do that. Do you design you own carving patterns?
  16. Thanks Bob. That answers my question. I didn't know the swivel knife cuts were called "finger cuts". Right now I'm more interested in trying to refine my tooled scroll work.
  17. My full time gig is web marketing and in particular search engine optimization. If people have a business selling a product or service I do keyword research to see what people search for that would be interested in their product or service, then I get their website in the first page of the search engines. I like it, I've been doing it full time since 2001.
  18. I have a few questions about scroll carving and hope you all can help out. 1. Is there a different name for scroll work where it's a cut and tooled scroll pattern as opposed to just swivel knife cut scroll work? 2. Who are the people that are known for the tooled scroll work? 3. Does anyone have any pictures of excellent tooled scroll work they can post? 4. Where can I get some scroll patterns to carve? Thanks in advance, Steve
  19. I'm in LA so those ones I won't be able to make this year. Is the CB 105 a walking foot?
  20. Hi Ryan, I was hoping that you would be at Wickenberg, I wanted to check out the CB 105. Steve
  21. Bob, I was the show and the Crown King party. I wish we had the chance to meet. Maybe next year. I'm new to leatherworking and this is my first trade show. I had a great time at the show as well. I got the Bob Beard tools I wanted. I also went by the Cobra booth and said a quick hello to Art, and Steve showed me how to sew on the series 3. I have to say Steve is as much a good guy everyone says he is. I met saddlemaker Carl Suvaco and Matt Bressler from Wickett and Craig at the Crown King party they both had lots of good information for a beginner like me. I owe a special thanks to Carl though, because the next day he was working the Thoroughbred Leather booth and I explained to him that I wanted to buy a head knife but I didn't know anything about how to tell if I was getting a good one. He explained what he looked for in a head knife, and then we went over to another booth and he picked out a nice used vintage one for me that cost $45. Thanks Carl. Steve
  22. A "bump" because it's only two days away.
