Here’s a selection of my recent projects Straight razor pouch Some wallets Shaving Brush Roll
-
Yesterday was a day of two firsts my first knife pouches and wet moulding so I thought I’d keep it small and simple. I enjoyed the process and I’m going to have a go at making some moulds for some other projects. These were done using the knives as the moulds and just stapling the leather as I shaped it to a wood board.

DE Razor Pouches
stormcrow replied to stormcrow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I actually only bought some DE razors so I could make some of these, I have however been using straight razors for over 2 years and your right there’s quite a saving to be made. It was after I did some similar pouches for my straight razors that I decided to attempt some for the DE razors. -

On these ones I used tan kote but recently I’ve been using tokonole burnishing gum which gives me a smoother glossier finish. -
DE Razor Pouches

I don’t have photos of those actual pouches with razors in but this one is the same size. This is a smaller version for smaller DE razors -
Thanks for the comments everyone, My light tent arrives tomorrow so if I get time I will be able to have a play with that. Cradom Mattsbagger is correct they are T pockets. These were some of my older wallets I photographed and I think I'm getting better at hiding those now. It actually wasn't till I started photographing my wallets a while ago that I noticed how noticeable they were this made me more aware of them and now I am more careful to hide them.

I’m currently thinking about trying to sell some of my stuff on Etsy so I thought I’d have a go at getting some better photos of my work. I’ve not currently got a Light Tent but one is on its way so for these I used a collapsible laundry basket which is similar to a light tent but the proportions are all wrong. I also used a set of table top lights like these These were taken with the lights a little too high so when I get my proper light tent I will try again with the lights lowered a little. Do these photos look like they will be ok for Etsy?

Just finished these they are intended for DE Razors but I’m guessing they would be ok for pocket knives as well.

Thanks for the advice, never done any braiding so that may be something to try. Instead of a soft rubber do you think a foam like that used for yoga mats would work ok as I’m sure I have some of that around here somewhere.

That was my first thought I just wasn’t sure if there were any options for making the handle a bit softer or do I just use a soft pliable leather as padding.
-
I’m thinking about making some hanging razor strops. For the few I’ve made in the past I have just used large D rings as a handle however I think I have improved enough to now try something different. I’m wanting to attemp a padded handle. What do I use as a filler for something like this?

Straight Razor Roll
stormcrow replied to stormcrow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Just finished this one, this time I've done the lining and pockets with suede exterior is veg tan. -
I have just in the last couple of weeks received these and they work great. the reverse side of the magnet is a rivet cap so unlike the other magnetic clasps I've seen you don't have to bend over metal strips to hold it in place. Double magnetic snap You will need a setting tool like this Setting Tool

My second attempt at a bag
stormcrow replied to stormcrow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Do you mean the flap on the front pocket if so this is how I did it if the main bag flap, it and the back are all one piece I just added a strip of leather on the inside to re-enforce the handle and strap d-rings. The flesh side was done with Tan Kote and smoothed with a blank credit card, I really should get a glass burnisher -
My second attempt at a bag
stormcrow replied to stormcrow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks, I didn't have a pattern for this one I just made it up as I went along. hardest part for me was the length of the gusset I was a about 3-4mm out when I glued it together so had to do a little trimming with a scalpel to get it to fit exactly. The front and back is about 2.5-2.8 mm which I believe is around 6-7 oz and the gusset is 1.8 - 2mm 4 - 5 oz -

My first attempt at a bag
stormcrow replied to stormcrow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks, it was an enjoyable challenge -
After my first attempt at a bag I wanted to do one that my laptop would fit in and also wanted to experiment with longer straps and strap attachments on the top and the side. Also I wanted to have go with a wraparound gusset. Attaching the gusset was pretty difficult to do and I’m guessing I should maybe have used a larger radius curve on the corner or thinner leather or maybe both. I’ll give those a go with my next one. This was also my first proper go at using an awl which was an interesting experience my stitching lines were not as straight as they usually are but I think it made it easier to put stitching holes in the gusset? Advice and criticism welcomed.

I’ve only done a few wallets belts and some belt pouches in the past but I’ve always wanted to have a go at a bigger bag. This is my first attempt at doing so, done with veg tan leather that I dyed mid brown. This one has a 3 part gusset that I copied from Ian Atkinsons messenger bag pattern I then modified the rest of the pattern to include a pocket on the front and back. This me took quite a while to do as I only really have a few hours at the weekends free but fortunately I’m not in a hurry as this is just a hobby not a career. Advice and criticism welcomed.

Goat skin wallet
stormcrow replied to stormcrow's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks, if I remember correctly I paid around £24 per goat skin (6-7 sq ft .8-1mm) I'm no expert but I believe kip skin is from a younger cow the ones I have bought have been about 1.8mm just over 4oz and the full skin was around 17 sq ft. -
