  1. Thanks! I will work on that tooling. I think I am a bit timid and forget to pound deeper with that mallet and beveler. Well, the whole neighborhood know my mom has a new purse now. lOl......
  2. I freehanded them on a piece of paper and then traced them onto the damp leather. On that skull I drew one side and used that side to draw the other side to keep both sides even and fairly close to each other in size and shape.
  3. Thank you so much! I am working on a purse for my sister. After Christmas I think I will work on that clutch. I am planning to take a chap making class too. I am excited about that.
  4. I used a wallet kit, so all the parts were in the package. I used the lacing supplied in the kit, it was leather lacing. I also used a plastic template on this particular wallet to transfer the Celtic Knot design onto the damp leather. I glued the leather to a piece of flat granite with rubber cement so that the leather would not loose shape as I was tooling it. I am beginning to cut my own leather interiors and exteriors for wallets. Sorry for the delay in answering and thanks to you all who jumped in and helped! B
  5. This is my first purse that I did for my mother. It took me a bit to do it, but she loves it. Comments and critiques are welcome. I dyed it saddle tan and just touched it with green and scarlett dye. Then I did a little gold over the top where I tooled it. Comments and critiques are welcome. The photos are not the best.
  6. This is a custom order that I received and wanted to share. It is based on the famous Sailor Jerry designs of yesteryear. I'd like to hear what you think. Thanks so much.
  7. Truly custom made boots - Gorgeous! You go girl!
  8. My husband saw a pancake cell phone design here on the Leathercrafter, I can't remember who posted it, but he just had to have one like it. He did most of the work and it's his first. I cut the leather, wet molded it and he did the tooling, stitching, coloring and cutting the strap and snap. Comments, critiques welcome.
  9. Here is a photo of what I am looking for. Thanks.
  10. Hi, I am looking for the supplier who sell the women's leather wallet kits that have the coin purse on one side and a strip of leather that comes over to the other side and snaps the whole wallet closed. I want to make some of those and do not know who makes those kits. I have not seen them at Tandy leather. Thanks.
  11. Very nice and different. Like it.
  12. This is my latest custom wallet. I just finished it. Mr. does the lacing and stitching.
  13. Wow! Thanks you guys. I will try that double stitch next time. I put a little gold sheen on that holster. The guys were teasing me about that, but I was not deterred! Mr. loves it, he has it squirreled away somewhere.
  14. I hope these pictures help see the carving on this wallet I did. B
  15. Good job! I like the barbed wire around the basketweave. Very appropriate for some mules! We had a mammoth jack for several years and he had Armstrong steering. He was a blast to ride. When he heeehawwed the earth seemed to shake, especially if you were on his back. He just adored our mares, but they hated him with a passion. We finally got one bred to him and she had a gorgeous little mule foal. The mother was a purebred cutting Quarterhorse. We bought that Jack at an auction in Tucson. My mother-in-law and I went there and bid on him and got him for all of $50.00! He was barely a year old and wow did he get big. He was very sweet natured and followed us around like a puppy. Your halter made me think of that Jack we had. We finally sold him to a ranch out near Douglas, AZ.
  16. Good job Tucker! Keep practicing and your knife cuts will keep improving. Mine were awful when I first began. They still are not the best, but I can see they have gotten better. Great subject as well. Thank you to all of you who have served in the Armed Forces. You are all a hero in my heart.
  17. I will see if I can get a photo that show the actual carving. My camera is one of those ancient Mavica's that uses those 3.5" floppy discs. Yikes! But hey it is a tough little camera and works for small pics for the internet. Thanks for the comments.
  18. Hi Hilly, Thanks! First I wetted the leather after I was done carving and applied the Tandy tan gel antique dye and wiped it off so that I had some dark in the carved and tooled areas. I let it dry fairly dry and then used a damp paper towel to rub off a lot of the tan dye on the areas the popped out. Then I used Tandy hi lite emerald green on the humming bird and leaves applying it like watercolor, not covering the whole leaf. Then I used Tandy hi lite yellow on the leaves as well. I applied quite a bit of that to get it to show up. Then I applied scarlet Tandy Hi lite dye to the flowers and roses and then yellow around the edges of the flowers and roses. I did the same process to the hummingbird. After the hi lite dyes I let them dry and applied watered down Tandy cova color Metallic gold on the wings and chest of the hummingbird and a bit on the roses to give a metallic golden sheen. I let all that dry and then coated with Tandy super sheen. I use a lot of watercolor and acrylic painting techniques in doing my leatherwork. I like the way it comes out. Hope that helps!
