Thank you but I guess what I am asking - how do you line the purse if: you are not lacing it and are stitching it so you don't see the seems?

Help With My Sheridan Drawing For Purse
equiss replied to equiss's topic in Floral and Sheridan Carving
After she said that, I understand what she is saying about the leaves. I drew the circles in, then added the directional lines, then added the insides and outsides of the flower stems, then was concerned there was too much white space. But, I think that overall, it is way too crowded.... Thank you for the feedback! C. -

Help With My Sheridan Drawing For Purse
equiss replied to equiss's topic in Floral and Sheridan Carving
Hi there- I can do one better than that even! I can send you my pattern drafting! Will send you a PM...I got a new ink cartridge today, and even though that has NOTHING to do with scanning, for some reason our printer-scanner-copier won't do any operation if out of ink...so hopefully will fix the trouble! Actually - can you pm me your email? Charlene -
Help With My Sheridan Drawing For Purse

Hi there - I am TRYING to get this scanned, and am having a hard time - still working on it! Thanks Michael Charlene -
I was able to see Mr. Maxwell demo this tool at the Pendleton leather show. I placed an order but unfortunately had to cancel it due to family circumstances; but the tool is amazing. I have bursitis and carple tunnel in my hand, and I watched him work for over 1/2 hour. It was amazing. NOt only would it definately I believe help me, and help my pain issues...I will be getting one sooner or later.

Hello all, I got one of the Tandy downloads for a purse, it is from a pattern (old retired) but I wanted to make a Sheridan tooling pattern for it. I am NOT good at drawing them, but did take a stab at it.....problem is I can't get it to look right. I put originally 6 large flowers in it, and at the bottom curve one smaller one. Does anyone have time to help me finish this so I can move forward to actual purse construction? I would also LOVE to get some help on what I need to fix....the picture is not that good, there is really only one edge that is acceptable, the other side even though I tried to finish it isn't working out. THANK YOU for any help you can give me Happy Holidays!! Charlene

Hello - if possible can I also get them? Email is cstovin@msn.com- thank you so much!!

lol...I don't even know how to answer that...the one he gave me out of fabric has a loop for belt, then the loop around the knife handle to secure the knife. I KNOW I have several "how to" articles in the leather crafters and saddlers journal, but short of thumbing through several 100 copies, I know if I could just get ahold of the index that would help a ton :0) thank you Charlene

Hi all, I got stopped by my neighbor this morning that wants a knife sheeth for his knife; I have several years worth of the leather crafters and saddlers journal, and I have an index somewhere...after tearing the shop appart for a few hours, I cant find the article index but I know they have several articles on how to make a knife sheeth! Does anyone have a leather crafters and saddlers journal article index that they could help me quickly look up where (what issue) the articles for making knife sheeths are located? Otherwise it is going to take me another two weeks to thumb through my magazones to find them! HELP PLEASE lol Charlene

Hi there - I know we have the Market Place....since there isn't (that I know of) a "blue book" for leather stitching machines, I was trying to see what people that have the experience and knowledge might think my machine might be worth in "next to new" condition. If only $1200 it isn't worth selling to me; I'll keep it. I realize that new ones right now are about $2100; I was just trying to get a good range of it's worth before I determined if I offered it up for sale - but thank you for the suggestion, it is something to keep in mind! Charlene

OK - maybe it is the 3000; the 9" arm.......

Hi all, I have a BARELY used Toro 2000 that I love, it MAYBE has about 10 hours total on it; I bought it when Steve was still at the company, and I bought it to use for saddle construction and just haven't got that far. I just got laid off of my job and am thinking of selling it, but I have no idea what used machines are selling for or what a fair asking price would be for it. I had to have the bobbin casing replaced because (my fault) I broke a needle and that somehow damaged the original casing, other than that....it is in new condition. Any ideas what it might be worth? I think I paid $2150 plus the shipping, obviously I can't recover shipping costs....but I don't think there is a blue book for sewing machines available either? Thank you Charlene

I do it all the time, I don't wet it, don't freeze it - just go to the saw like it is....I am sure the older leather crafters wouldn't like the idea, but my wrists are not strong enough to use a blade well without cutting myself, so this is the method I use a lot...

Hello all - I have a question; I like the ground seat I put in this saddle, it is comfortable for me, and I carved it down quite a bit, the down side was that it took me 5 pieces to get it in the way I wanted...which made it awful thick up towards the hand hold area, which that would be ok, but the main problem/question is where the leather meets the tree near the swells almost fills in that whole area....I should have carved that back more while I was working. NOw I am not sure how to get in there and carve some of that out? I don't really want to take the whole ground seat out, this is a 4-year project just to get this far; but the part near the swells has to come down, and the other question is I can't seem to get down in there to carve some of it out? What do I do or how do I fix this? The rest of the seat is perfect (feel wise)... Advice appreciated.... Charlene

Someone in Salem/Portland or South willing to mentor part time? I am looking for someone that would be willing to take me and mentor me in saddle making on a very part time basis; I work full time (sometimes more than 40 hours a week) and sometimes have to work on the weekends, but the weekends and sometimes evening are all I have available to work at my leather. I can afford to pay some, or exchange or some computer / basic website work; I live in the Independence area, so it would have to be within an hour or so of home. I am starting my first saddle, and have all the books, all the DVD's but just don't learn well that way; I really love the leather work and want to learn to make my own saddle, I just need some help along the way. If you know of someone that might be willing to take a student on a very part time basis, please let me know. I could travel a bit farther on the weekends, and am open for suggestions C.

Does anyone have any patterns (can be combination floral/basket; floral; ??) for 8 oz. flasks? I am just starting to do some, and I am NOT good at drawing, and unfortunately I have spent the money on all the books, and have tried to practice, and have just come to the conclusion that some people are not meant to draw.....I have good ideas, but can't get them to paper. Anyway - if anyone has any patterns they would be willing to share, I would love that - thank you Charlene

Did you ever find one? If you did would you share? I need to make one, and this one I can probably draw, my problem here is I don't wear them so I have no idea how long to make them......

Hello all, a friend of mine has an old childrens saddle that she wants to sell, I mentioned I wanted a "project"; she has no idea what she wants for this, I have no idea what it is worth. I did some searching on tack trader for older used saddles, and there are a lot on there right now and prices seem pretty low. What I need are some good estimates on what this might be worth and what a fair offer to her might be. I have no idea how old it is, we are guessing 60-70 years old? No makers mark or other identification; there is a tear in one fender such that the whole fender really would need to be replaced to make it safe and ridable, there are some tears in the swell leather, but not too bad for its age. It is missing most of the rosettes (easy), tree seems sound, and the skirting is coming apart from the tree. The seat is in good shape as is the horn, I would guess it is in about a 7 in a scale of 1 to 10 shaape with 7 being excellent. it is about a 13" seat..... What would you offer someone for something like this if you wanted to restore it? we dont have kids, so I have no need for a childrens saddle, I would just like to get it back to its original condition - then what, I have no idea? it has silver rivets all around the edge, several are missing, not sure if those can be replaced. Hi all, I wanted to get some information on a lazer engraver; I imagine they are pretty expensive, but what I wanted to know is are they all purpose? (do they work on leather, ceramic, other medium) or if when I get ready to buy one do I look for one that is used for leather only? I guess what I am looking for is any information someone can give me on lazer engravers for use on leather products - I wanted to look into getting one, but have no idea how much they are, what to look for, where to go for one, etc. thanks!! Charlene

JayJay - is that just a card carrier - or does it have a clip on the other side? you wouldn't consider sharing the pattern would you? I have been wanting to make my husband one for a long time, but don't know how to make one with the clip added to them; I know, probably pretty easy, just not good at making my own construction patterns - but that is really nice!

Hi Cheryl - I am interested in the cross cutout - do you have to use a machine or is it the kind that you can use a hammer with? Please send me a Private message and a picture if you can, but I am really interested in it! Thank you! Charlene
