Craigspal is my newest addiction thanks to rdb. way to go, something else for the wife to gripe about. <---how come there not one like this with an elephant, how discriminating lol.. I hate political debates, James

I don't think I would carry openly because I know that some people have a fear of guns and I want to be respectful. Even though some people want to force their beliefs on us. Just don't think I want to do the same to others. And also for the element of surprise as Go2Tex mentioned. Now thats just my opinion, James

Said I would get it out and post a current pic. thanks for the comments Art and Ray. Ray the restoration never ends. Even after I finish it then I will probably want to change and redo it. so its never over i guess

Ok I guess I will jump in the mix here and show off my pride and joy. It is a 1951 Ford F-1, been working off/on for about three years when its not deer season or another hobby like leather comes along. Do all of the work myself in my own little shop. Think I must have this sickness that won't allow me to pay others for what I can learn, crazy right. I will try to get a more recent picture of it posted today. Anyways here she is....

I carry in Oklahoma and if you have an OKLA CCW the surrounding states also recognize your license. The license here only cost $195.00 total and takes 90 days to recieve it after the OSBI gets your ap. I think its pretty cheap insurance! More guys at work are alway getting and talking of getting it. James

new guy with thanks and question
2MadJacks replied to Bronson's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Are you applying your dye first, if so how heavy are you applying? I believe it dries out the leather quite a bit more and will definetly crack the surface when bending. at least I think that is why my first belts cracked at the buckles. I use to use a dauber to put it on way to heavy. Now I have stopped having this problem. James now thats my 2 cents... Pros please feel free to correct me as I too am just learning. lol -
Wow those are all great borders and a refreshing thread, thanks for the pics. I always seem to struggle making nice borders other than the simple cam. Again very nice, James
-
wow thats an awesome design. For some reason the simple border on the inside pocket is very appealing. I like it. James

oh, I also forgot to ask if anyone thought I should put any conditioner or anything else on it, if so what do you suggest? It's pretty dry, is it to late? I store it in a dry dark place. Thanks James Art, my first thought was for rifle cartridges, the way they neck down. -
Hello I thought I would share this with you all. For those who don't know Heck Thomas, he was one of the Three Guardsmen that work for the "Hanging Judge" Isaac Parker. Together these three men tamed the indian territory. Chasing outlaws like the Daltons and the Doolins. How I got this belt... My very good neighbor friend was a milk man in the days it was still delivered to your door. He told me that he always went out of his way to help the elderly and the widowed. In doing this he of course met some very interesting folks, one of which was Heck's daughter. After years of visiting and becoming good friends, she gave him her fathers gun belt. no holster or gun, just the belt and ammo. After he and I met and he found out how much I enjoy the old west. He decided to pass it along to me, believe me I am very grateful and have since been picking up little tidbits of Heck Thomas paper articles and such. So here you go, Hope you enjoy as much as I have. James

It is what the police officers use to carry back in the old ganster day of the 20s and 30s. they were filled will led shot and were very brutal. I believe they were outlawed. my neighbor has one if you would like to see a pic of an original? let me know, James correct me if I am wrong Ok so I just talked to my neighbor and he let me get some pics for ya. He also told me that the gansters use to carry these and the brass nuckles, so he was told. But here you go

Hello Steve, I would like to clearify what I thought about your first statement. As I work mids and now have gotten some sleep and time to think after my first statement. I believe what blew me away was that it sounds as if you are implying, since some of us also use other knivesrazors along with the round knife, that we don't have a QUALITY leather shop. This is just was what my eyes seen in your post. Also I guess I better mention that I use a rotary knife to cut my fringe. And yes is good and fun to get a little heated in our debates, thats what makes us all great crafters. James, Also your work is outstanding.
-
LOL, are you sure you didn't fall off that soapbox? I could't disagree with you more on this. You don't have to just use tools that are traditional for leather crafting. Someone has to be the first to try anything, whatever means necessary to get the job done nicely. Its okay if you only want to work leather traditionally, but at the same time its also okay to use a razor knife or box blade in a quality leather makers shop. If I misunderstood your statement then I will go ahead and apologize now. James

Hennessy thats a sweet box, BUT being a Sooner fan ... may need to flip that longhorn over. lol all kidding aside thats awesome, James

Hi Ed, the spacing ring on my toro 3k is .145 James
-
Ed, yes I do have calipers and will definetly check the spacing for you. your spring removal idea definetly makes sence with the bobbins being different lengths. James
-
Hi Ed, Rdb Just wanted to let you know I just got a chance to play with my toro and rethreaded it with #69 and only wrapped the tension one time instead of twice as the video suggested. It definetly made the adjustment for the lightweight material much quicker. I didn't adjust my pressure foot at all. also I called artisan and asked if they suspected if we should have to adjust our bobbin tension and they didn't think we would need to. I spoke with Dave. don't know if they have more than one Dave or not so I don't want to say it was artisandave. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any more help to you. James
