  1. I am not a fan of Buck knife sheaths, so, I made this one , one afternoon. I am unhappy with the white thread, It;s a 4 strand and heavy waxed white thread. It picked up some of the black dye. It doesn't stand out as well as I wanted
  2. I have a dremel tool drill press. real tiny bit. drills straight.
  3. HI there, i'm also from Colorado, welcome
  4. Just finished this sheath, was a project that took me 3 tries. I kept screwing up, but its done and I am happy with it
  5. Small world, FT Collins, wow, pic of my sadie.
  6. I didn't this time. In the past I have washed the leather with bartenders cleaner, then a coat of neatsfoot oil. This time I just started making it. I realize it could be a number of things that stopped the dye from adhering. I have also washed leather with denatured alcohol.
  7. its easy to slip behind my belt, and Sadie knows whats in it. It is actually a good training tool. I used light veg tan leather, I thought it would be "less stiff" than it is. And doing the two tone dye was fun. I just wish I could figure out why the dye didn't take in a couple of spots
  8. thank you both. it was fun to make.
  9. best thing to do, is enjoy doing the leather work. don't stress about it
  10. I have a 7 month old pup, that I am working on training. I have been putting her treats in my pocket. I'm real tired of digging the crumbs/pieces out of my pants. So, I made a simple pouch to put the treats in. 5 in wide, 3 in tall, 4 oz leather. no flap, the strap slides between my belt and pants. I did have a small problem in that the stain wouldn't stain in one area. Don't know why. Don't care, its for me , and its works real well.
  11. I have used a wing divider, chisels, awls, and a tiny drill in my dremel tool. The key is practice, being very careful to keep what ever you use, straight and even, at 90 degrees to the leather. I have a L shape piece of metal, that I will sometimes hold up against my awl to make sure it is properly positioned. thick leather I usually drill the holes. As far as smooth edges. I really like the slicker that attaches to my dremel tool. Also, dye your edges before you slick them If I use edge kote, I will thin it down for a couple of coats, I think that it absorbs better into the edges.
  12. I'm not one who likes to see a lot of paint on leather. I been using tandys eco flow antique. A lot of people don't like it, buts it's been working for me. I thjnk a light antique would be best. Your tooling is fantastic. Let that be the predominate focus of your leatherwork..
  13. It's all about practice. I must have a couple dozen coasters and wrist bands. just keep at it. It will get better
  14. I bought 2 knives at the show this year. One was a Dan Zvonek mosaic pattern Damascus knife, the other was a Steve Myers Damascus knife. I'm real happy about getting both. The Zvonek, I couldn't pass up buying , the blade pattern is intriguing, and Steve Myers and I talked for a long time, and his knife just kept calling me. It fits my hand great, real light, easy on the eyes. I'm going to try to post pics. Haven't done pics in a long time. Thanks Jack

    Round knife

I don't know what you mean by a single head knife. I'll go home tonight and take a pic, and post it on Monday. It has a round blade, but not as large as a round knife. or as round as a round knife. Pics to follow.

    Round knife

to get a knife that holds a good edge for awhile, you are going to pay some money. I purchased a "semi round knife from Spyderco. its no longer offered, but its got good steel and really holds an edge.It is not as round ,not as wide , as a round knife and works really well. Think maybe 50 % round , of a round knife. I have considered talking to a custom knife maker to have him make me a round knife, but I am not convinced that I would like a knife that round/large. I tried making a skiving knife out of a wood plane blade. I not too sure I like it., but I keep playing with it.
  17. I like your style. Very original designs on the holsters. I understand about getting tired. I can pound leather, form and dye, but agter 2 , 3 hours I gotta take a break. I have never made a holster, but you do have a talent. keep up the good work .
  18. I like the rivets on the bag, I curious, did you fold the leather over on the edges ?

    Butterflys

I made some butterflys for my grandkids for Christmas. Trying to paint them to make them look like a butterfly was harder than I thought. My wife and kid chipped in, they helped to design how to paint them. So, this was a family project.
