Here it is stretched on the board.

Got the snake on the board today. 5'2" nice looking except for the bullet holes!
-
Have not stretched it yet. When it comes out of the liquid either today or tomorrow I will "board Stretch" it.

I cut all the way down the stomach with a pair of EMT shears, then just peeled it off. There was not a lot of meat, but there was a really heavy thick membrane all the way down the skin. I used a combination of a skinning knife, and a brass brush while keeping a weak flow of water running down it. Still didn't want to come off.

Thanks for the replies. Looked at some of the utube videos, looks easy enough. I got it skinned and in the liquid today. Hope it comes out good. Fleshing it was a pain in the butt! Here's what it looked like before going into the liquid. it was the full snake originally.

Don't really know if this is the right place to ask this, but I will any way. A buddy of mine just had his dog get bit by a rattlesnake, almost $1900.00 later the dog is ok. The snake was back in his yard, and actually tried to attack him, so he shot it. He knew I was into leather work and asked me if I wanted the snake. I said yeah. He brought it over, and after cutting the head off, it measures 5 ft from the front to the rattles. Currently it is in my freezer (not making my wife too happy). What is the best way to treat the skin after I get it skinned, and scrape the flesh?

That is exactly where it came from. It was easy to work with. I am still not all that great at cutting straight lines. I should have sanded it before I put it together. That was my first attempt at carving. I saw the Lee Marvin Rig that Regis D did, that may be my next attempt. I so have a thing for 1911s.

I haven't posted anything in a while, and remember I do not do these for anyone but my self. Let me know how I can make it better.

This holster is a real beauty! I love the alligator insert. There is only one way to carry a 1911, condition 1 cocked and locked. I carried mine that way for over 10 years. By the way, I am of the opinion, that there is no such thing as an "accidental discharge" there are however Negligent Discharges.

Those look really good. What weight leather did you use?

Has anyone made a leather cover for a first gen Kindle fire?

Has any one used one of these machines? Is it worth the money. I do not sell any items, I build for myself. Tandy currently has it on sale for right at $400.00.

Very nice. Thank you!

MERNICKLE "WILD BUNCH" 1911 HOLSTER
AA3JW replied to AA3JW's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Already bought both of them. I also bought all the holster packs that Tandy has, as well as down loading I bunch I was able to find on the web. I think I almost have the pattern finished for the one I want to build, this will also be my first lined holster. -
MERNICKLE "WILD BUNCH" 1911 HOLSTER
AA3JW replied to AA3JW's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
These are all made from Will Ghormly patterns. The first one was my first non-kit holster. The black marks are from clips I used to hold it together while I sewed. The last two pictures are from Ghormly Hand of God Holster plan pack cut for a 4 3/4" SAA in .45 long colt which I had to go buy after I built the holster. Be gentile these are the first ones I built except for a couple of Tandy kits. -

I will post a couple of pictures if I can get my camera to download right. Remember I am just a beginner, so don't be to hard on them. -
MERNICKLE "WILD BUNCH" 1911 HOLSTER

I have heard that phrase Progress Not Perfection from a friend of mine, Bill W. I did some cowboy action shooting when I lived in MD, but when I moved to FL, I learned real quick it's to darned hot to play dress up. I still shoot a lot, and reload, and play with my ham radio. Thanks again. -
Very nice. That looks like the "walk and draw" holster that Steve McQueen wore in the Magnificent Seven. Did you put a steel shank in it like the original?

MERNICKLE "WILD BUNCH" 1911 HOLSTER

Plinkercases, thank you so much. That helps immensely. I actually have the Will Ghormley pattern pack, and have built several of them. I am not very good at it, but it keeps my hands busy, and away from the bottle of Jack. I enjoy the work. Thank you so very much -
Does anyone have one of these holsters, of have seen one in person? I am trying to make a pattern, and am trying to figure out the back side, especially the "wings". I am fairly new to leather working. I have made several holsters, but really like this one for my 1911s, my second love, my first is my SIGs.
