Purse for Christmas
hidepounder replied to Double U Leather's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I apologize, Wayne, I don't know why I thought that. Please just chock it up to my age! Meanwhile I'm trying to dislodge my foot from my mouth! But I meant what I said about the purse....you did a good job on it! Bobby -
Purse for Christmas
hidepounder replied to Double U Leather's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I wish you guys would quit posting pictures of the purses you've made for your wives. Mine is getting pretty upset as she doesn't have one....ohhhh I'm in a heap of deep, LOL! Beautiful job Tim! It doesn't look like a bowling bag and I'm sure your wife will agree with me. The only way that purse will see the flea market is if it's on her arm! You done good! Bobby -
Photo Album / Guest Book
hidepounder replied to hidepounder's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
Grumpy, I'm going to jump back in because I want to expand a little. While Troy is right, double beveling has been performed for many many years, he is one of the few toolers to make successful use of this technique in recent times. He has drawn a couple of patterns where double beveling the scrolls is a very prominent part of the pattern and I have never seen anyone do it better. He is way too modest to tell anyone this so I will. I study his tooling whenever I get a chance and have incorporated many of his ideas into my own work...that was the reason for my earlier comment. If you ever have the opportunity to see photos of the saddle he built for his daughter you will see how he makes use of that technique....it's stunning! Just wanted to get that on the record.... Thanks everybody for all the compliments and support. It's wonderful to know when your efforts are appreciated and makes me strive to do better on the next project! Bobby Thanks Troy, I appreciate it...no I didn't double bevel my scrolls....I have taken so many things from your work that I feel double beveling the scrolls is sacred ground and belongs to you...I have been considering double beveling my stems though, LOL! Thanks again, Bobby -

My first attempt at a belt
hidepounder replied to JoelR's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I agree with everone else that the belt is pretty heavy. If it were me on this one I would probably punch holes 1/2" or 5/8" apart because he is a little guy and maybe punch a couple of extras. Like everyone said....there is no issue with wearing it out, only outgrowing it. The standard for holes is 3/4" apart. If it were me I would go ahead buy the oblong punch but bear in mind I am toolaholic with no hope for recovery, LOL! I purchase tools as I need them and don't look back. My attitude is if I need it once I'm likely to need it again and so I buy it to have for the next time. If you have the opportunity to do another belt you might consider skiving the lining side to a lighter weight before assembly. that is something youwant to do at the fold anyway. Hope this helps... Hi Everyone, Here are some photos of a recent project I just completed. It is a guest book/photo album for a boat. The interior page binder was challenging because I wanted no flesh sides exposed anywhere in the binding folds. Hope you enjoy.....any and all comments/critiques welcome as always. Bobby
