  1. That's good to hear from you Bruce. I trust your knowledge, experience and appreciate your enthusiasm... I only use the paste in squeeze tube, formula. On my second tube now. This stuff lasts for years... Depending on your uses. It really is an effective metal protector. I have also cleaned my silver and gold with it. Worked a wonder. Chas
  2. Yes. I love to clean and polish my razor shaving sharp hunting knives and axe blades with it. But only thought about using it with my leather tools today. Then I saw your old post, only after, I had already hit the Submit Reply. It's not an easy product to find here in Edmonton Alberta. Similarly of electronic contract cleaner... Chas
  3. Has anyone here heard of, or tried a polishing product called Flitz?? I use it to clean and protect the blades on my large hunting knives and small axe, collections. I apply mine using a jewelers rouge cloth. Really does a great job of cleaning and restoring an old blade. If using on an antique aged blade, where rust has been gathering, I will clean with Emery cloth first, them apply and polish with Flitz. Chas
  4. No individual tool pics, who can tell you? Please post some pics of the tools you want identified, specifically. Thanks. Yes, it's interesting to hunt and find old leather tools, we will clean up and cherish. Chas
  5. Nice, you sound like a person who has a definite mission.. ;-) Ah, please post some more pics of your other leather tool creations, if you like. Thanks Chas
  6. Man those both cut nice. They will save you a lot of time and effort. I like there usefulness for sure. The butterfly shaped blade can help you use scraps of leather by laying out the pattern so very close to each other. Yes, Good job. What 's next?? ;-) Chas
  7. Hey, those look really nice, you should be proud. Must have been a lot of work, to get them finshed. Ah, could you please post a pic of the work they do? I'd be quite interested in seeing a couple of pieces of leather sitting next to them, that were cut. Chas
  8. Hey, good job. That's very nice, & it shows us all, that you are 'hot' on it. ;-) Thanks for sharing it, well done. . . Chas
  9. Hopefully, the OP is still around. But no problem, if they're not. Well yes, those Wuta tools look marvelous, it's a shame they don't get sold in groups of three. Ah, but if one likes them enough, it wouldn't hurt to buy the set. Even for the high cost. Chas
  10. Checking the mail tracking today, brought me a smile. My gift box of leather tools have already left Australia via Perth, and are in the air. So now it will only be a matter of time, how long Canadian Customs officers take, to get at searching my parcel. This has all been very exciting, and I am looking forward to them being delivered sometime later in the week. I feel like an excited kid waiting for Christmas Eve... Chas
  11. Fire88, Congrats on the new round blade. You sound very satisfied by its quality and sharp edge. That's awesome. Are you going to build a nice leather sheath for it? Would you please post a pic of your prize. ;-) Chas
  12. I don't know about these suppliers, or if these may suit your needs.. http;//www.fineleatherworking.com/leather-sewing-awl-blades http://www.rmleathersupply.com/products/barry-king-awl-blades Both are Barry King... Chas
  13. Where have you already searched? i saw these nice looking ones on Amazon, and thought you might like to at least have a look. https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Creaser-Stainless-Marking-Handle/dp/B01NAS41JY/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1509941842&sr=8-9&keywords=leather+creaser Good luck, otherwise. Chas

    Old stamp?

Wouldn't that pointed end stamp, cause more noticeable wear on your maul or mallet as well. But a sharp file on that point, would eleviate this. ;-) Chas
  15. Tom, It's all good. A couple of days away is alright. But there are mods listed here, that haven't been on the forum for more than two years. Perhaps now is high time, to bring in some new blood? Someone who could attend the forum daily., you be the judge. ;-) Ah, anyway, thank you for having fixed my post above, and that's all I wished for. But you failed to have deleted the pics that were between my writing. Ok, never mind. Well, unless you can put my broken sentence back together and place my two pics at the bottom of the post. Thanks for being polite about my outburst. But it was beginning to frustrate me. Have a great day your self, thanks again too. Chas
  16. Thanks Bruce, I see one of you have helped me out, and that's all I wanted. Hope my comments weren't too rude or derogatory. I am very new here, and don't know anyone. My post got a hundred views, but not one comment, before today. My pics weren't showing, when I posted them, until later when they were in multiple. & the photo editing in this forum is nearly non Existent. Anyway, my tools are on their way from Australia, and even though, I already have many of them. I can't turn down such a gift, graciously. They should be here in about another week. Big thanks for understanding. Mucho gracias señor.... Chas
  17. Are there actually any forum mods here, that read these posts and respond? I have sent messages to a couple of mods and Admin. Nothing. No response at all. No reply and my thread still has multiple images. i looked at the Staff list and noticed some of them haven't even visited the forum for a couple of years. So is that how this forum operates? That's pretty poor management in my personal opinion. WTF? I don't care, if that's how we operate here. Apparently there is no need. Just police ourselves. Ha Chas
  18. Did a small Yahoo search and found this. http://www.lexol.com/lexol/categories Yes, it seems many Walmarts may carry Lexol products. https://www.eshine.ca/collections/lexol-leather-care-canada-cleaner-conditioner Chas
  19. For me, what you are asking is very personal to the specific user. This is what I mean: How a particular maul or mallet feels, perhaps great in my hands might be an awkward weight or size for you. & vice versa. My advice would be to try several and find where its balance or heavier weighted end, must be, for your tooling style. Then proceed with your builds i have 3 rawhide mallets, of different weights,, light, medium and a heavy one. And two mauls. The most recent one I purchesed is 32 ounces. While the other one I turned on a lathe, & is all hard wood, so somewhat lighter. I also have five or six hammers, and a half dozen axes/hatchets. Each tool has it's own best uses. One of my favorite stores, www.leevalley.com carry the full line from Gränsfors Bruks Axe lineup. Please go trial a few mauls or mallets and discover those which feel most comfortable to you. This will hopefully give you a much better idea, of how you wish to proceed, building your own designs. . Good luck. Chas
  20. Can one of the forum mods please help me fix my post? Delete the extra pics that I mistakenly posted... Thanks Chas
  21. A friend on an RC drone forum, and I were talking one day, and he said that he learned that I do leather work. I said yes I do, but why do you ask? He proceeded to tell me about an old friend, a lady who had sold her home and moved into a seniors retirement village, hundreds of miles away., before she left, she had given this fellow a small box of leather tools. He asked me if I would like them, since they had just sat in his shed for the past 15 years. ;-) I said. sure, love to have them, but are they all dusty & rusty? But he said no, and offered to send me these pics. Tools and old books. I already have How to Color Leather and the Inverted Carving books, by Al Stohlman. He's mailing them tools and all the bits and pieces, up here to me, tomorrow. Kind of excited about it, being free. Some of the stamps and figure carvers in the plastic rack, I already have,, but I'm sure there will be a few, I don't own yet. Too bad i had just bought one of them Super Skivers, only a couple of weeks ago. Nice to have a spare I suppose. Chas
  22. Plus, a wooden handled mallet or maul, doesn't absorb the shock, of the hits to cold steel. Unlike the shock absorption, that a maul with stacked leather handle, would provide you. That's just something else for you to think about, when purchasing a tool, you wish to use for many hours at a time. Comfort is joy... ChasCS
  23. A small amount of Neetsfoot Oil may be all that you need. It will rehydrate the leather, and bring back its natural condition. Ah, yes, it can darken the leather slightly but it does a great job. I apply it, using a dauber, and use a liberal amount of the oil. ChasCS
  24. I have a few dozen spools of dental floss. Yes, it's waxed. Haha Just not sure if I should sew with the peppermint or the cinnamon? ;-) But any quality honey store should carry a mixed selection of various wax, in many configurations. Here in Alberta I use a natural recipe for boot waterproofing. Bees Wax, Pine Pitch and a little MInk Oil. ChasCS
