I use coffee or black tea for my brown shades. Not only is it Eco friendly, it makes the leather smell great! -

So far it has been fine. After assembly I oil with Virgin Olive Oil, and let sit, then I applied the Leather Sheen. After this I polished with a mixture of Beeswax and olive oil, this is a mixture I made that is somewhat like shoe polish, works great. Scott Forgot to mention, I clean between each step with a wipe down of Acetone. -

Bending is the biggest problem. The shank of the female tends to bend over prior to swelling. Scott Wild Rose, Thanks for the idea, I used a tapered center punch, and it helped some. There has to be a better way....I think I will go play around in the machine shop tomorrow and see what I can come up with. Scott

There are various schools of thought on what weight leather to use in the fabrication of holsters. My question to those of you inclined to answer, is what weight do you utilize for your different styles? IWB weight/OWB weight. I use 6/7oz for my OWB. I have yet to attrempt an IWB holster. Thanks Scott

Which dog is Irish? Welcome!!! -
My question is where in this order would you oil the leather? I have been using nothing but natural dye/stains, coffee, tea etc, and after abusing the leather with the staining, casing , and boning, it needs LOTS of reconditioning. I am going to try using commercial dye, and am not sure when to recondition the leather, before or after dying? Also I have been using Virgin Olive Oil, and it seem to work very well, the leather just sucks it up. Any problems with using this vs Neatsfoot oil or something else? This is the great thing about this forum and the people on it, it is a deep well of info that is freely offered and shared. Thanks Scott

Scott1952 replied to Scott1952's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for the replys I'll give it a try on my next holster. Rayban I agree, a beautiful rig. -
Does anyone use artificial Sinew for stitching their holsters? I have used waxed nylon but never sinew. I happen to have come into a quantity of it and have no experience at all with it. Thanks Scott
