I'm interested in getting information on how it works, if it stitches well and if anyone is selling one. Curious what they go for. WOndering what people use it for in today's market. Any help would be appreciated! Stephen www.greenmanleather.ca

Hi, do you have any pictures of what oyur talking about? Are you using a stitch awl? Id so the tool is mainlying use for emergency repair, as due to stabbing the leather you do get the hols not all lined up. When doing hand stiching I used a diamond awl to first make the holes. THen use two blunt needles sewing one hole ata time in a in and out manner . Its called called a cobbler stitich. super strong. ifyou look the sewing motion online you'll see what Im talking about. Hello Mark and welcome to the site. I'm also Based in Ontario, Caledon area. Tandy leather can be a great source for leather although doing a search online for wholesale leather , you'll save loads of money if your thinking of getting back into the trade. www.brettunsvillage.com is based in Maine USA but very affordable leather and never an issue with customs. Capitial findings in toronto, north york is amazing as well for dye, a large canister is 13 there but at tandy its 27. If you contact them pls let them know stephen of Green Man Leather sent you! I recently sold a house in Peterborough, lived there for many years. Happy to talk more about leather with you. You have experience making horse reins? I'm looking to to offer services of this nature in my neck of the woods. Stephen www.greenmanleather.ca

I have been toying with buying a Landis treadle harness machine. The seller doe not even know what model it is... Who has one or has used this machine? Need all the info on the models or pdf, manual specs more pictures of it if possible. I hear that is a very good machine to use on harness and the price for 1000CAD I think is worth it. How does it compare with a pearson #6 because it looks very much the same in terms of mechanical structure. What have people paid for their landis stitcher. the foot treadle part is missing and i wonder how easy it is to pull a macguyver and make something out of wooden to recreate the peddles? Thank you

Consew 227r series is good for Harness repair, stitching. You want a model that has easy to find parts for. But buy used the prices are silly for new machines. If your new to the trade I would not buy a meduim duty. You need a model to grow on. Med to heavy is the way to go. with at least a 1/2 to 3/4 hegiht on the walking foot. If your just doing harness work. Buy an older pearson or landis treadle machine. Its what they were designed for. Singer has a great line of industrial machines. http://www.builderssquare.com/xp_922973-Fe..._ferd440rr.aspx http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp04857-0277.html hope this helps

Leather Sheen SOS
tat2 replied to bennadatto's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Hey buddy that happened to me too. You have to deglaze the finish, take off all the finish then with water slightly rub off the excess then restart the finishing procedure. Hand to dry in the garage or basement. I use an acrylic satin finisher, works alot better than the sheen spray. It is fixable just a pain in the back side when it happens! Good luck and send some pics. Stephen -
Do you mean a stitch awl or the other that one marks the leather making a point? SOC

Hello everyone, my name is stephen O'Ceallaigh from Caledon East, Ontario, Canada. I have been self teaching myself leathercraft for 8 years and been in business for one year. We all know how amazing this craft truely is! I have always been good with my hands. I currently make anything out of leather. I have been looking to find my own nice and market that I would become known for. currently I seem to make alot of belts/ teaching belt making workhops and leather covers for planners. I'm in the process of creating a construction and garden line of leather goods to sell as whole sale to local businesses. I recently bought a landis 5 in 1 on ebay and very excited to start using it. I used to do everything by hand but once an order of 10 items is made I found the need to have the machines to speed it my prep time! Very happy to join this site and welcome any questions of leather craft. I have alot of rare and old leather manuals which ive collect over the years. Stephen

Hello everyone, I just bought an old landis 5 in 1 sole skiver bench machine. I want to speed up the prep time for skiving glue pressing etc then sewing. Thought this would be the ideal machine to assist me. I have been searching high and low for an operations manual for this bench machine and have had no such luck. Even Landis Canada does not have a manual... very strange. Alot of people here talk about this machine so Im hoping one will have a copy possibly to scan and email or mail? I would be most thankful! Cheers, Stephen
