Yes I saw it as well. smaller 8 inch Blade looks ok but to be honest I am only sold on the Randall or Krebbs design. The top roller really helps evenly gauge the skive. People have been saying that hte newer 84 works well. I see they have a brass bar to help keep the leather steady which is key of course. Av the 86 though I have one for 1 week then sold it on ebay!

I agree the Lucris is in a class of its own< i use mine daily for clicker cutting and to emboss design unto the leather. Makes a fine impression too! The Weaver is made in USA BUT as you can see it looks poorly put together. you can see the weld seams looks like stamped steel. It is a matter of preference I see the Lucris for less online than 1450 so look around. I found mine for 300. Got lucky I suppose and had a table made to handle more work and cutting space.

Bob I use bonded Nylon 277 and 346 on my Peason. I buy from the Thread exchange ask for Jerry, Best thread on the market and sound prices!! I tried the left twist cotton and was not happy with the look and the possibility of the thread breaking down over the years.

I use the Lucris MA series 3 Hand operated press, which has 5 tonnes of pressure. I use mine for small clicker dies and for making impressions using magnesuim die plates. The amount of pressure is determined by how high the pressure plate is. I would be lost without mine. Its a real time saving bench tool!! We had also had issues with lop sided impressions. We bought a lot of the delron stamps. So we ended up cutting down the stamps and used the press the line everything up and it made our work go smoothly. With the Arbor press I would go higher 2-3 ton of pressure. Some leather like black latigo needs more pressure. We used an arbor press, took off the round like wheel and welded a flat steel plate on the bottom where your die and leather go and encreased the top part with another steel plate to encrease the pressure put unto the Leather. worked like a charm! Question is how much do you want to spend and how many application do you want to use your press with?

Ryan you do need to think about the type of volume you have for strap work and see if its cheaper to invest in a strap cutter. I live in Canada and the price here for strap are stooopidly silly, when asking about the price we are told its shipping to Canada which makes the cost higher. 12-15 per strap. When I bought a 12 inch strap cutter I ordered my leather from Weaver who for 8 per hide cut the leather into 12 inch widths. It worked out to about 7-8 per strap when I cut it, even cheaper depending on the style of leather I used. I found it very worth it AND you can keep the hide as is until an order comes in. Cut in any width and away you go. Once people in the area knew I had a strap cutter I started to cut their straps for them. Great machine and I felt in more control of my belt making and putting more profit into my pocket. Another option is buy a straight edge tandy wooden hand strap cutter. line up a straight edge on the leather and cut slowly along the edge of a long table. It takes longer but is very much a cost effective way to cut your straps. The Tandy model works better than any other I tried as it has a long edge to line up the leather with. just my thoughts

I think a maker's mark needs to be personal, yet having something that is eye catching to make the customer want to check out your webiste or walk into you shop. I have 2 different types. The first one was the Maker stamp I started out with. Showing off the hand drawn Green man image with is out main image logo on our cards and and site, We had made into a Magnesium stamp. We simply put it through the Lucris press and make the impression. Younger folks like this maker stamp. My other is certainly more professsional . thre different sizes, 1 inch, 1.25, and 1.5 wide all are 3/4 high. We stamp it on our higher end items. I had a friend who did our website make up the designs then she sent them off to be made. I also use a GML stamp for my Jack Sap Straps. We put our logo on ever product that leaves our work tables. It proudly states what business made it and encourages people to look you up and to possibly have a referral just from them seein the logo! That is my loonies worth.

I agree what Bruce and hte othere stated, Campbell Randall sell parts for it, check for crack on the knife tray and if all the teeth on the cog wheels are there. Nothing like buying a deal to have actually a lemon!

After a lot of pounding I found the the top of Delron widen a bit. so I cut the impression off to use in my press and found it worked better and less bouncing around when hitting delron stamp with a heavier mallet.
