  1. anyone know where to get some larger belt buckles in black?
  2. what kind of stainless steel dimension are you talking like 1/8" x 1/2" x length of sheath? on the second time did you sew the goat skin to hide it? wonder if you could just use the snaps to sort of rivet it to the leather
  3. When you're setting snaps do you try to line them up straight or do you move them around to adjust for stretching or things like this?
  4. I had trouble posting photos with the limit so I linked these in the original post please take a look https://ibb.co/6wVT0Sdhttps://ibb.co/v1xqsRz
  5. I tried one wet mold and dry and they both seemed to fold up in the center. I think it may have to do with the top of the sheath being not perfectly flat but having a peak on the left side. how would you wet mold it to be fat like wet it and sandwich the front flap together? how I did it was wet the leather, put the saw inside of the leather and used chord to wrap and hold it shut I've never done this or heard of this being done could you explain? would I like fold over the front edge put some metal wire then sew it inside or something?
  6. any other active forums around leather working? I found bladeforums.com sheath section to be pretty good
  7. hey guys having a hard time posting photos with the 1.4mb limit. usually I like to post on my iPhone but the photos are to big whats the work around for this?
  8. Hey guys I'm making this long horizontal sheaths that have a cover flap and two snaps on the side. However the center keeps folding up on me. is there any way to fix this issue (other than putting a 3rd snap where the logo is punched)? I'm using 6/7oz leather but maybe need to go to a 7/9oz? or sew on a long narrow piece on the front to keep it down better? https://ibb.co/6wVT0Sd https://ibb.co/v1xqsRz
  9. sounds like a couple of people like the wuta as well might try those out. whats your most commonly used size?
  10. hmm yeah seeing dubbin in different types of beeswax mix do you think it would be more durable than snow seal? https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Dubbin+leather+finish

  12. yeah I was thinking saddles will take the a similar abuse. havent been able to find many saddle makers on youtube when I was trying to research their process its like 8$ USD!
  13. thanks for the extra tips
  14. looks like form this guys test of leather being out int the California sun the snow seal held its coat the best (needed water after 3 months) with resoling and neetsfoot behind it
  15. was kind of thinking of trying to find a decent low cost set just to have what I need on hand if I'm in a pinch but also buy 2-3 nice ones in the main size
  16. do you like the interchangeability? seems kind of annoying chasing out
  17. anyone else feel like the Tandy snaps dont hold very well? I'm having them pop open on some of my larger sheaths that take two snaps. I think the ones I got at ACE hold stronger (but dont come in black). What snaps do you like and dislike? I'm going to try the Ohio travel bag snaps as I hear they also come in extra long posts
  18. hey guys I need some leather hole punches (I've just been using the rotating style one). Mainly I need one for copper rivets but figure I'll need other sizes later. Would you recommend buying a set or individually also what brand is worth the money and what brand to avoid thanks!
  19. What system makes it the quietist? I think I'm going to try the endgrain
  20. thats interesting and makes sense. could probably save a little time and just cut some 4x4 posts, less glue for you to hit with your tools, glue really dulls your tools (I know from woodworking with plywood and laminating). the tree stump is a cool idea too
  21. thank you for the help, is there anything I should do to the inside of the leather? also do you have any good places to order the American harness leather you speak of (6/7oz). All my samples and such have been for veg tanned
  22. I've just been using scrap baltic birtch plywood or kitchen cutting board. what would be the best material for punching leather? Was looking at this from Tandy that they say is used for clicker presses https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/professional-cutting-board
  23. Cool thank you. Do you think getting one that has the foil stamp function built on would be good to have? How did you setup your other one for movable type?
  24. What kind of finish would you do for a piece that will be out in the elements getting rained on, muddy, baked in the sun ect. im using veg tanned leather ecoflo water stain and a sno seal coat. also would a different type of leather be more optimal for the elements? I need it to be thick, the forming of the veg tan is nice but not completely necessary
  25. Does foil stamping leather bold up outdoors where it’ll be getting wet / drying out and such? Or should I stick to just embossing or burning in
