thats pretty neat! do you store full hides like that? o just small pieces?
-
You think those would wear off? Where could I get them? Little diamonds could be cool Any suggestion for places that sell the pebble pattern? Sounds like what I would want

Interesting way with roles hung on the wall. Maybe annoying to wrap up every time but looks nice

what kind of rack did you use to have the vice grips with rod setup to keep it heated? was your rod for the holes hollow or solid? I've tried both not sure wha tit like better. the hollow version heats up quicker but it more messy, like the inside drips hot gooe out. the solid rod takes awhile to heat up and harder to push through the hole

I've been experimenting with just the hole punch as well but I just hit it with the propane torch or the torch style lighter which melts the edges pretty good. sometimes it changes the hole size a bit so I try to push it on the grommet stem right after applying heat so it pushes on easier

anyone know of a leather that's grippy? Also being on the waterproof side would be nice. I made a motorcycle seat out of some veg tan leather but it's pretty slippery so trying to find a better solution for the next one. I was kind of thinking that doing suede side out would make it more grippy but is there a way to make suede side out more waterproof? seems like it would soak up water when washing or riding in the rain. thanks

Anyone know of any good hole cutters that are heated and burn through? Doing grommets in webbing and the internal hold isn’t as strong if it’s not burned before putting the grommet in. Right now I’m just using vice grips, bolt and torch. Not efficient enough for how much I do it

Anyone sell some kind of tool holder that maybe sits on the propane bottle and holds the branding iron above the flame?
-
Yeah that was a great idea. The design is very similar to woodworking tool cabinets that I often drool over except a portable version of that.

Nice kit that you can tuck away when not in use https://youtu.be/Vxko8OhUv7s what’s the tool next to the strap cutter that’s small and silver on the dowel? also what’s that pink plier looking tool, some kind of grommet setter?

thanks for the info sounds like I should shoot for 1/8" if possible. what is the brand and material of the 11mm rivets you've had good strength from?
-
hey guys I'm using some Tandy double cap rivets right now and I'm worried about the strength, what would be some really strong ones, I'm using them for a loop that will have a strap pulling on it. I feel like the copper rivets would be stronger but need something quicker than that for this project. Also how far out the top should the double cap rivet be sticking out from top of the material, also for reference what would be the minimum and maximum that would allow them to work?

Hey guys what kind of brown leather can I get that will take a nice burned stamp? like the hat photo shown below. I tried some Badalassi Carlo Waxy - Pullup Veg Tanned Leather - 4.5oz from rmleather but I tried all different kinds of heats/times and this is the best I could get where it was just a light outline. pure veg tanned leather always gives me good stamps but id rather not dye it for this project

some additional information from northwest tarp about the two brands Fasnap brand is manufactured in Japan and DOT is made here in the USA. Other than that they are high quality snaps and the only ones we sell. One isn't really any better than the other though the DOT brand tend to have a higher gloss to them. Fasnap are a little more dull.
-
additional research/ testing: amazon "Snap Fasteners 100% Stainless Steel Boat Marine Canvas Upholstery Snaps Cap" from northwest tarp. they are fasnap brand. emailed them for the longer post version. good but not super strong holding amazon "Fasnap Stainless Steel Snap Set, Marine Grade, 80 Piece:" says they're offered by northwest tarp but really they are fulfilled by someone else and they are actually DOT not fasnap these were a stronger hold and more so what I'm looking for. I tested and they work with snap brands, the part that makes them stiffer is the female socket. using the male on other brand female didn't improve strength. so I think technically I could stock up on the female version of the DOT brand and use with whatever other snaps I have.

where do you guys get your foil for foil stamping leather? I see some on eBay, some are listed for laser, is that different than a heat press? theres not many options on amazon. not sure how to identify good / bad material.

hey guys looking to get a cobblers hammer to hit the glued pieces together. wondering what a good weight is for that? like 6 oz? 13oz? I've seen some chasing hammers that also have the pien on the other side which might be nice to have for hitting copper rivets (one less hammer to have on the bench). but these are mainly for jewelry so they'er at the 6oz which seems kind of light. If you have any specific hammers you like or where to pick one up happy to hear

what do you mean take water as well, like wet forming? or do you mean hold up in wet conditions
