  1. Very nice idea. I take it that's inlayed?
  2. The work you did for the motorcycle is outstanding. What did you you use for the background tooling (it's a great effect and works well with the coloration)?
  3. I believe you've got it right...it does come out of both ends! The bag looks very nice, and the hand stiching is wonderful.
  4. Great thanks! One thing I very quickly learn is while Cubs are good and enthusiastic about pounding on something (anything for that matter), their aim ain't great....so while you may be tempted in helping them hold the tool steady......keep your hand (and feet, head, arms, other children, anything breakable) FAR away!
  5. I realize this thread is a little old, but I thought I'd add a different perspective to it. The BSA requires us to stick exactly to the letter of the book, we are not allowed to require more and cannot accept less than exactly what the badge requires. Having said that, there are no prohibitions against exploring the topic (any of them) further after the badge requirements are all met IF the boys choose to do so. One of the drawbacks is the time required to complete a project, and the time allotted during camp...there just isn't enough time to do all that we' like to do and as in depth as we'd like to. The program is set up to allow the boys an opportunity to learn the basics of several different skills....they are not expected to become masters in one camp. As BSA leaders, we should be on the lookout for those topics or subject that a boy really takes off on and be ready to point him to "the expert" in the local area or know where to find more information about it. This site is an excellent example of one of those resources I plan on pointing my boys to in the future. Keep up the good work and encouraging words!
  6. Very nice work....Is that McClarren (spelling?) I used to be an Antelope......
  7. I would think that being on the tip of the spear (excuse the pun there), the holes would actually add to the overall effect as viewed from the ground....especially if there was an entire row of spears. Looks like you may have started a new "must have" !
  8. I had the exact same question as Freak. Is the book pattern something you came up with, or from a kit? It looks great! I'm just down the street from you in San Antonio, stop by and say hello if you're in the area
  9. I agree with the rest on the sunrays, good move. The different shades and shapes within the orange really add depth and warmth to the overall effect.
  10. I love the concept! Also, very nice tooling work on the florals.
  11. The stiching and edging work REALLY adds to it; nice, clean, simple yet very professional look.

    Last work

WOW! It's peices like this that inspire me to try new things (and remind me my stuff is not ready for prime time just yet haha). How did you come up with that concept? Dave
  13. Great basket work, I really like the edging you did there.
  14. It looks like your boys had a great time. I've got a Pack of Cubs now. We made leather "Progres Towards Rank" replacements for the lead-based (and recalled) ones the BSA put out. I did the cutting and gouging, but they did all the stamping. It worked out great and they had fun doing it as well. I might attempt to hold a class at day camp this summer, any ideas for Cubs? Thanks, Dave
  15. I just joined this group a couple of days ago, and am just starting out in this art...but this idea sure sounds like fun. Please count me in too! Dave
