Barry King And Ron's Leather Tools
Frank replied to RoyalLeatherDesigns's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Ron's tools is still up and running. A fellow by the name of Toby Yoder took over the business and I have since bought tools from them. They do not come with a sharpening file, but the correct size rod to use when sharpening them. You just put some extra fine wet dry paper or croaker cloth over them and sharpen that way. They are pricey but in my opinion, worth every penny. Frank -
Mini Slicker #2 has been sold. Mini Slicker #1 is still left.

Thanks very much. Yes, those are cattle brands carved into the holster. I used a pebble texture stamping tool from hidecrafters. Frank

Thanks very much. The customer of the aged rig was absolutely thrilled.

Been pretty busy lately. I made another aged rig. Double Cheyenne holsters with money belt. I also finished up just a plain waist belt for a customer. I love the buckle on this one. It came off an old mule harness. I had an order for just a John Wayne style belt without the holster, a cattle brand holster, and a dog collar for my Sister's pooch. Frank

Just an FYI for anyone looking for an N Frame Dummy gun, If you call Duncans, they are currently having one made. They told me 3-4 weeks from today, they should be ready to ship. If you need one, I would place an order ASAP since I have not found another supplier that carries the N Frame. Frank

Good Lord, I need my head examined. Sorry about that. I meant American out of St. Louis. If Moderators could change the heading and wording, I would appreciate it. Too many things going on at one time. Thanks for pointing that out. Frank

Here I have an old Champion Skiver for sale. I believe this one is a bit older than the ones Bruce has on his website. Maybe a first or second model? Bruce your input would be greatly appreciated here!!! I degreased the entire skiver and it seems that everything functions properly. I have not tried to loosen any screws though. I have run leather through it and it does work but the blade would need some sharpening before use. There are some traces of black enamel paint on the skiver. I'm asking $175.00 plus shipping. PM Me with any interest. Bruce, if you have any info on this, feel free to add to it. Frank

Urban Cowboy Rig
Frank replied to Eaglestroker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice and clean. They really remind me of 2 holsters I built for a guy about 4 years go. Matching but opposite colors. Frank -
Thanks Matt and Josh. I really like making the antiqued rigs. They'll never be as good as Chuck Burrow's rigs but they are still a lot of fun to do.

Thanks very much.

As far as curves, you would need to overlap the stamp a little more on the outside radius in order to close the gap. If you overlap a little more, you will have an easier time making a straight edge stamp go around the curve. You'll probably have to use a wing dividers to ensure that you are keeping the same spacing as you round the curve.

I've been a little busy to get the photos of these posted, but here are the last 2 mini-slickers. We'll call them #1 (left) #2 (right). Both have Cocobolo handles. #2 seems to have a crack in the handle. This is actually a surface crack from the bark. and has no effect on the tool at all. #1 has a little bit thicker working area with the tips being a little more rounded. You can see this in the second photo. #1 is on the top and #2 is on the bottom. $85 shipped. So far, the other 2 that were sold, the customers are happy with them. PM me if interested in one or the other. Frank

Here are a couple more holsters/rigs that I completed. The first photo is another antiqued rig I just finished. The second photo is a Slim Jim style holster for a 5" Schofield. I made it to match a rig that the customer already purchased from me. The third photo is of the rig that I made the matching holster for. Frank

No problem at all. Hunter131; everything that you asked regarding corners and overlap, was written about in the tutorial with the photos. Sporq; This does not work the same way with the "Carlos" border (H Tool) that you are referring to. Those cannot touch one another or they will form circles. Frank

Holster Lining Question
Frank replied to Ed in Tx's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ed, IF I line a holster, which is very seldom, I use veg tan of a lighter weight, tooling pigskin (which is a veg tan), and in a pinch I will use English bridle of a lighter weight. I know one or two guys that use 5-6 ounce for both layers which simplifies your leather needs. I think Bianchi mentioned in his videos that he liked to use a 4-5 ounce inner and then a 5-6 ounce outer or something to that effect. The other thing you can use is good veg tan calf skin if you can find a regular supply of it. The veg tan splits I cannot comment on as I have never and probably would never use them for anything. The strength of the hide lies in the grain, so I think the splits would eventually break down to nothing since there is nothing holding them together. But long story short, use a veg tanned leather. After all of the family stuff I have been dealing with the past two months, I have finally turned out some decent work. A Duke rig for a 7.5" New Model Vaquero, a Hand of God holster for a Schofield, and a nice aged/antiqued rig for a 7.5" Single Action Army. Frank

Frank replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nice work Josh. I need to get an order in like that! -
He did round the edges a bit on two of the three that he is sending. They should be here Monday and I will post photos then.
