Can a Ken Onion Work Sharp be used to sharpen a head knife and a round knife ?
Just wondering if it would be good for initial sharpening of a new blade
Hi fredk
Yes I know what it is for, I was hoping somebody would say oh that was made by xxxxxxx company and then I could order a new blade assembly, but it looks like I will have to make one.
I have had this cutter for a good few years and I think it was intended to either cut rubber or leather washers.
The blade is made from a length of 1/4" steel rod with one end reduced down and profiled to form the blade.
Today the blade snapped so I ground it down and sharpened it to finish the job, but I wonder was this a commercially available item or home made.
The central point is spring loaded.
I have a cheap double ended bench grinder going spare and wondered if I could turn it into a power burnisher.
At present the ON/OFF switch is broken and I wondered if maybe I could fit a speed controller in place of the On/Off switch.
Has anybody done this ?
I recently saw a photo of a square plastic template for marking a radius it was marked 15/6/3/45
I was wondering if anyone knew where I could obtain one ?
Thanks

Damn Zuludog you sussed me out. I will be cleaning it back and polishing.
I tapped the pins out and took the scales off. Unfortunately the handle is a one piece item but I will make 2 separate scales as I am not skilfull enough to make a one piece item.
Well postman delivered the Moon Knife this morning and I do believe it is a genuine Don Carlos . The gold shield is still discernible (Just) and the patina on the blade indicate some age.
I will give some consideration as to whether to make new scales or just do a simple repair. (The knife has no real value so not going to spend a fortune)
The main criteria is to see if it will hold a decent edge.
Well like everything in life, buying a secondhand unseen knife is a gamble.
Maybe it is an original Don Carlos made in Germany made with good steel or maybe it is a cheap copy, made from recycled washing machines, only time will tell.
I have some Milliput in the garage but will wait and see when the knife gets here what is feasible and what isn't. by way of repair.
I have some offcuts of various hardwoods so making new scales would not be to much of a problem.
Looking at the end of the handle it looks to have been struck with a hard object judging by the compressed fibres
