  8. Put this together for a friend of mine that now lives in Texas. My hand stitching skills are a little lacking, haven't had to sew a toe plug in for about 5 years. Just thought you all would want to have a look.

  12. Yes on the side of the shank. I have looked at few other stamps made by them but they were not for sale. The owner didn't know anything about them. He is 87 and they were old when he picked them up in the late 40s.
  13. Can't find anything on line about the maker and have asked every one I know and have came up with nothing.
  14. Welcome to the site. :welcome:
  15. Here is a few that I have collected over the years. Some are McMillen, the large vnr is Eberley and the large flower at the bottom is a Sonnen Schinez. I left the pic size alone hope it is not to big
  16. Congrats on your new shop.

  17. Welcom to the site.
  18. Here is a scan of a page from a R T Frazier catalog that I have from the 1920s. I made some cuffs with a stamp that I have some time ago, pics are in my gallery if you would want to take a look. I cought some flack from one of our fellow leather workers for posting them. I hope he has been following this thread. Sorry about not changing the picture size, Ididn't notice until after I posted it.
  19. Nice creaser, a little cleaning up and it should work well.
  20. Could be, the one I use is 1/4 hp and that is more than enough. I built one for a firend out of a old 1/6 hp and it works well to. Not as well as the 1/4 hp though. I like the 1725 rpm motor, it was to was to easy to burn the leather with a 3450 rpm motor. Hope this is of some help.
  21. Very Nice work.
  22. How do you plan on using it? Will it be on a helmet that just hangs on the wall or will it be on a helmet that you plan on fighting fire with? You could take a look at Cairns web site and see what they say. On their gold leaf shields it looks to be oil based pain and I would bet it is the same on the others. The pics are of one of my fathers helmet that I bought for him in 1995 and my issue helmet. My helmet has seen a fair bit of fire and it is blistered at the top but the paint hasn't came off. Check Paul Conway's shields out, parts of thier shields look dyed. I hope this is of some help to you.
