  1. This is my second belt and wallet, so to get some more practice I offered to make a belt for my buddy. I decided to make him a matching wallet to go with it. I used chicago screws instead of rivets on this one ( thanks for the recommendation Dwight) anyway let me know what you think.
  2. I got a reply from Weaver. "Thank you for your email. Yes, we do still offer sharpening services for the Master Tool Punches. You can just send the punch in along with a note that you would like to have it sharpened and your contact information. Once the service is complete, they will reach out for payment and ship the item back." So for anyone interested they still offer a sharpening service.
  3. When I dip dye I typically give it a few hours depending. If using a dober 30 minutes is usually fine. That seems to work for me.
  4. I'll give them a call on Tuesday and report back. The problem is I didn't buy it directly from weaver. I bought it online from a second party seller. I got it almost half off, that seemed like a great deal. However I didn't buy it from weaver so I dont expect any help from them through warranty.
  5. It's a frustrating situation. Lol
  6. Thanks! It's a great size and knife. I just need more time behind it. I'm planning on using it a lot on my net few projects so I can get more comfortable with it. Diesel Tech, keep checking back his inventory seems to be resupplied fairly quickly. I had the same thing happen a while back with his buck stitching chisels.
  7. Thank you. I have seen it done before and always liked the idea. I will say its very satisfying sliding it in the sheath and snapping the snap. Diesel Tech, it's a great knife, very sharp from makers. I'm sure my complaints are my lack of experience with it. ETA: sorry I screwed up the quote.
  8. When I paint anything I use fiebings leather sheen in the aerosol can to cover the paint before I do anything else. I had the same problem until I started doing this. I used this technique with my wallet and the paint stayed in place while antiquing and the final layer of tan coat.
  9. I bought a weaver punch online for a great deal. After receiving it I found out why. Its dull it takes a a ton of pounding to punch through 8oz leather. Nothing like the other punches I've bought directly from weaver. The edge also looks uneven again not so with my other weaver punches. I've tried stroping but no luck and sharpening something like this is out of my wheelhouse. I know weaver used to have a sharpening service but I can't find any information on that. Does anyone know who I can send this to? A few pictures to show the edge
  10. I did lol. I just do this as a hobby and my wife got me the makers mark for Christmas. It has my real name on it and call me paranoid ( I probably am over paranoid) I dont want my real name on a public forum.
  11. Thanks. The knife is the small round knife makers leather supply sells. I'm no expert (this is my first round knife) and I know I need more time using it. This particular knife doesn't feel all that comfortable. This was the only knife I used for this project , I want to get proficient with it. If I could go back I'd order a larger knife. This one is so small ive ended up cutting myself a few times because my fingers are so close to end of the blade. Reference photo
  12. I have been wanting to make a round knife sheath for a while now. I decided to try out some new stamps and airbrush I got for Christmas and I came up with this.
  13. That looks great! Alot smoother and cleaner. Again not a expert but I think practicing a few times before the actual project makes a world of difference. I'd be very happy with what you have done there. PS: my wife was looking at my screen as I was typing and said you did a great job.
  14. Yes, they are checkered standerd bevelers.
  15. It stopped raining so I went out and looked. I have 00, 0, 1, 2. The 00 and 1 are the ones I use the most. The 2 is nice for borders but I use a push beveler for that now.
  16. I think it looks good just needs refinement. I'll be honest the the biggest improvement to my tooling was after I bought a set of Barry King bevelers. Practice with them and you will never go back to craft tool bevelers. They aren't labeled but I'll go out in the morning and tell you the numbers I use most. I started messing around with this about a year ago and the bevelers are by far my favorite tools.
  17. I'm absolutely no professional but that looks like a good start to me. I usually do a few practice pieces before I do the final project and that looks typical of one of my practice pieces. I would say just keep at it until your satisfied.
  18. Thanks! I really had fun with this. I started it back in October but making Christmas gifts for everyone took priority. I'm happy to have finally finished it.
  19. He drew up the bear up himself off a picture he found on line. I showed him how to transfer it to leather. He did use a swivle knife and beveler to do the letters. He has 4 or 5 hours of practice on this piece of leather. He's on Christmas break so he plans to get out tomorrow and get on practicing knife work. He wants to tool the wallet Thursday. Thanks for the kind words he will appreciate the encouragement. ETA he go his license a while ago and will be off probation next month he plans to ask her to dinner and bowling once he can legally drive her. I hope he makes some headway with this gift.
  20. Not me but my son. He's 17 and wanted to make a wallet as a Christmas gift for a girl he likes at school. He wants to put her name on it and a teddy bear. I gave him some instruction and let him play around with my tools. He still has a way to go but I think he can pull it off before Christmas. All the leather is ready to tool and assemble. I'm proud of him for spending hours practicing and wanted to show off his work. The letters are really rough but he knows that. The bears are numbered and I think he is definitely getting better. He's in the garage now pounding away. I'll post the progress in the next few days.
  21. I finally found time to finish it up. I made the mistake of putting the white side of the tyvek facing out on the left side and went over the edge with the black dye. But it's for me so it doesn't matter.
  22. I can email it in pdf format for anyone that wants it. I just can't get the pdf to work here. Any way if intrested just send me a message. Also if any decides to make some please post pics I'd love to see your designs.
