carljc72 replied to rickybobby's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That looks like my blue gun collection. One 1911 Colt Commander...I am ready to monopolize the market. -

First "classic" holster in a while
carljc72 replied to Shorts's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I think it looks awesome. Very sharp detail and the stitching looks great. I would love to buy a machine...I want to try to make a belt and dread the thought of hand stitching it. -
Treating the inside of a holster
carljc72 replied to carljc72's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you everyone for your replies. This is similar to the information that I originally told him and I will call to reinforce it. I did not know about the waxed paper and will forward that info on as well. Again, thanks to all who have traveled before me and are willing to share. -
Has anyone had a customer ask what they could use to treat the inside of their holster to aid in the smoothness of the draw/to help it break in faster? And what do you recommend? The inside of this particular holster was dyed black with Fiebings and then slicked with Gum Trag. It was Wickett and Craig 8oz shoulder if this helps. It was finished with Resolene. Thanks, Carl

First holster and need advice
carljc72 replied to JoelR's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Stitching will get easier pretty quickly. The best advise I got (from this site of course) was to have a super sharp awl. Once the awl will slide through the leather like it is butter, your control will improve and the stitches will look better. Good job so far...and good luck. Carl -
A couple of holsters for a good friend.

I like them a lot. Superb molding/boning. He will be very pleased. -

#6 screw through the male part of the snap into a T-nut inserted into the back of the holster. These straps can be swapped out with others to be worn IWB or OWB. -
I'm no expert but it looks good to me

I second. Very nice. That is a good looking site.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I agree about the edges. I have not gotten that part down yet. Anyone have any secrets to share about getting the perfect edge? -
Here is the second holster I made of this type. I sold the first one when someone at the gun shop saw it and liked it. It was not identical to this one, but there were plenty of similarities. Any critiques and advice are not only welcomed but encouraged. This is about my 6th or 7th holster attempt. Thanks, Carl

dye and neatsfoot oil ???
carljc72 replied to carljc72's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you Lobo. I am going to try this metod on my next holster. By the way...I made a holster for myself for IWB to use at IDPA and I get tons of compliments. It was inspired by the one you have shown in this post. -
I agree completely. I have just started this year making a few holsters for myself and some friends. I am making a similar version for myself to try out. I want to see how it holds up for comfort and durability. I like the removable strap idea for a few reasons: IWB/OWB Belt size Color combinations Thank you to everyone on this site for all their knowledge that gets passed along. I could not imagine attempting this without this wealth of information. Carl

dye and neatsfoot oil ???
carljc72 replied to carljc72's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I was thinking of using it on holster straps to keep them flexible and keep them from getting brittle. -
dye and neatsfoot oil ???
carljc72 replied to carljc72's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
thank you very much -
I apologize in advance if this has been covered...but... What I have read so far in different posts is that neatsfoot oil is great to use for the natural "look". Does anyone use neatsfoot oil along with dyes? And if so, in what order do you apply? (dye, oil, then finish, etc...). Thanks for the help in advance.

elmers glue stiffening agent
carljc72 replied to Fdisk's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you for that response. After reading I am sure that I am getting my leather too wet. My next project I will cut back on the amount of water. Maybe my forming and boning will be easier and look better. Carl -
My latest attempt

I think it is a good looking rig and I too like the smooth cylinder. Nice job.
