  1. That is a good looking holster. I like the CBOB as well. That is amazing detail and boning for not using a press. Nice job. Carl
  2. Bruce, I think it is an awesome looking holster. I love the clean natural back. I completely agree with Denster about the sweeping profile...very sharp. Carl
  3. That just sounds like good clean livin Carl
  4. Just a quick question...a friend of mine bought a used holster from a smoker and is wondering how to get the smell out of the leather. I said to myself, "self, you know what to do". You ask on Leatherworker. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Carl
  5. Nick, I personally agree with your method. I hand stitch everything and came up with a similar method. I also use my drill press with either a round needle or diamond awl blade. I have not done a belt yet but now I look forward to it a little more after reading this thread. Carl
  6. I agree with Pancho, and have re-dyed ostrich scraps for holster trim. Ostrich is an oily leather so be sure to buff off any excess dye really well. The first time I tried it I did not think I would ever buff out the excess. I did not use the nu-life spray which may be the key. Thanks for the advice Pancho. Carl
  7. Customer: Do you make concealed carry holsters for revolvers? Me: I sure do. Customer: Do you make the ones for behind the back? Me: I have made a few for SOB carry Customer: Cool Me: What kind of revolver do you have? Customer: Smith and Wesson 460 with an 8" barrel Me:
  8. Mike, I dye the inside, then buff it so it does not rub off and then I use gum trag. to slick the surface. I use a bone folder but you can use a dowel rod or even the trust Sharpie. It does not make it soft but does make it smooth. Carl
  9. I competely agree with the written agreement. I have also had to do this when I first started and still do for a custom holster. Sometimes there is no other option than to use an actual gun. Make sure you speak with the client and walk him/her through the process and give them exact times that you need the gun. Give it back as soon as possible too. Just a side note...Duncans Customs has an X-frame dummy on their list. They cost $45 plus shipping if that is an option for you. Good luck, Carl
  10. It will work. That is what I use for my DOT snaps. Carl
  11. Brenda at info@lasergiftcreations.com can custom make a stamp for you. She uses delrin rod and laser cuts them.
  12. Dave, I do not make western holsters but I think your answer can be found in Al Stohlman's book "How to Make Holsters" which can be found at Springfield Leather and other fine leatherworking outlets. Good luck, Carl
  13. Looks like good clean work to me. Keep up the good work. Carl
  14. Monica, I believe once one or 2 people see your holsters with shark trim, your 5 sq/ft piece will vanish. Your customers will advertise it for you. Carl
  15. I have a design where they can change the straps to swith from OWB to a high ride IWB. I have just been a little paranoid that in switching back and forth someone could ruin a t-nut. I would just hate to have a return because of a customer "screw" up...lol
  16. I also use t-nuts. I do not sandwich it between the layers though. I have always been a little scared to do that just in case (by some slim chance) someone cross threaded or stripped out the threads of the t-nut. It definitely looks more appealing but there is no way to replace it if it is damaged. Just my $.02.
  17. I base it on the cost of the exotic and how hard it is to work with. No real formula here. Carl
  18. I love the way you are thinking...I will have to run that past my wife ...lol...wish me luck
  19. Monica, you are correct. Rings make the 3" as you stated. I did find an Officers acp at Duncan's with the 3.5" I called Crimson Trace as well and they also sell the 3" Micro. Carl
  20. I called Rings and they do not have a 3.5" model...at least not anymore.
  21. Can anyone please tell me who makes a Colt Officers model dummy gun? Or...at least something compatible to the 1911 with the 3.5" barrel. Duncan's shows the Detonics combat master...will it work? Thanks in advance, Carl
  22. That has got to be the best feeling. It shows you are "doin it right". Congrats Ray. Carl
