  1. I was thinking a couple conchos but like you, thought it might give it too much bling? Thanks for the compliments, making me wanna do another rig. 😆
  2. I've started using suede as a belt liner the last year or so. I've found that once you have it strapped on, it doesn't move around, your pants will fall down before the belt moves. That's very desirable when riding dirt bike and 4 wheelers. Probably horses too but I stay away from them now that I've determined that they always hurt me when they get a chance.
  3. The holster is 8-9 veg tanned with a 3-4 veg tanned liner . I used English bridle dye on the holster liner because it was a close match to the 3-4 Oz suede leather I used on the back side of the belt. The belt is 8-9 veg tanned with suede liner. The belt loops are 3-4 veg tan. I'll get a picture of the back side but will take a while to get it reduced on my laptop enough to post here.
  4. Already have several holsters for my pistols but had an itch to build another one while it was raining outside.
  5. I like it! Criticism would be things that can still be finished. Maybe use a larger beveler? Die or paint the edges after that then slick? Stitch your liner closer to the edge? Looks a far sight better than my first.
  6. I have a question though. How do you keep the pistol from sliding too deep into the holster, I build my welt so the frame or trigger guard of the pistol rests on it keeping the pistol positioned where I want it. It doesn't look like your using a welt?
  7. I wasn't going to respond but he directly poked at me with false statements. Even so much as quoted me. This is the second thread where he directly rebuked my statements about the topic. Maybe tell the preacher to stop stalking me and get his facts strait?
  8. Nope your wrong, I just looked, the boss has a 1 year warranty on parts and service. I'm not two hours from anything, who cares, I wouldnt want to live in your world. new parts for the cowboy were on my doorstep in three days from my call to Ryan. Would think same time for the boss. Aluminum galls, cast iron doesn't. I'm man enough to pick them Both up. Neither of my machines use 415 thread. Both use 345 but the boss doest look as good. The cowboy has a longer arm for more work area. Both machines sew the same thickness leather, I know because I did it. Leather that didn't fit the cowboy also didn't fit the boss. Are you affiliated with tipmann? I have both, no dog in this fight. I like the cowboy better and it seems better designed and a lot more sturdy. Your the reason that I purchased this boss, you claimed it was superior to the cowboy. YOU ARE WRONG, and now I have spent my money on a machine that I feel is sub par to my original plan to pick up another cowboy. May God bless you too.
  9. I have an outlaw and boss. The outlaw is worth the extra money hands down. It's cast iron and lifetime warranty, just call Ryan he'll get you fixed up quickly.
  10. Everyone is so set on the boss I decided to try one. So far I've done several leather projects and I've sewn 112' of 4 duck canvas. The stitching looks the same as the outlaw but the pot metal sucks and the bobbin is smaller and more difficult to change out. I like the outlaw better even if it does cost an extra days wages. Just an amateurs prospective. If you decide to get a boss round the edges on the stainless table, it opened me up a couple times today and once yesterday.
  11. I've been looking around the net for sewing machine threads and needles but I'm not really finding anything too helpful. I'm guessing I'm using the wrong search names? Where are ya'll purchasing your leather threads and needles. I'm mostly looking for threads in the 277 and larger class.
  12. The Ontario machete is made from 1075 and I've never bent one even after glancing blows. They sharpen very well and hold the edge a long time. I've thought about 1095 but would be afraid it might be too brittle unless it's built with a little more girth? More girth would be more weight or less length? Yeah, I've been spitballing the same idea myself. I guess I'll just have to dig out my forge and try it some day?
  13. Yeah, I'm a machete maniac. Was showing a workmate my machete and he sneared and said he uses a chainsaw. I laughed and told him to load it up and we'll pack in five miles for seven days and see what he prefers. I've got chainsaws, axes, hatchets and, machete's. When it's time to hike, I'll take a machete every time although, I prefer 18 -22" depending on how much room I have to swing it.
  14. I guess I'm not familiar with the term steam punk but I hope it's good. Lol Thanks for the compliments
  15. Now I'm thinking that maybe a pouch for a file could be incorporated into it, might be a good idea also?
  16. I know its been a while but I heard rumer that Ontario knives has folded so I wanted to build some nicer sheiths for my machete's. In my previous coments I mentioned my idea of putting a mole type of strap down the backside but then I thought I could put some belts down the length too? On a couple, I put a D ring top and bottom so I can use a sling as an option also? Im fairly happy with a couple of them but I think Im on the right track now? Maybe someone else might find this usefull or even take my ideas and expand on it.
  17. I've been building a couple armor wear lately. Mines not for show but for battle on my dirt bikes. I'm tired of having bruises on my shins and want to protect my forearms in the event I should lay it down on rocks. I'm hoping mine don't get battle scars but if they do, one less bruise I won't have to suffer. I'm not sure what kind of damage your wanting on your armor but you could just whip it over some rough cut iron of various shapes?
  18. I ordered my machine from Tandy and I ordered a bunch of other paraphernalia with it. I'm finding that I've not used any of the extras yet but with two machines maybe I can set the second one up to do different tasks easily? Just remember, these machines aren't fast, I don't need fast. I've been using it for large canvas projects and it's painfully slow for that kind of use. My job gets more stressful when it's cold [ like it is now] so I haven't had a chance to look for deals on the one I'm planning to order next. If you find a good deal pass it on to me. I'm still playing catchup around here.
  19. So, Like I was saying, Needing parts for my machine and got ahold of ryan. As I was talking with him (with CC in my hand) he said I owed him nothing? Turns out, my machine is lifetime warrenty. He said he would get my parts in the mail today. WOW!! Ive never had customer service like that before, I think Ill buy another Outlaw one tomorrow.
  20. I really like mine however, I don't have a lot of experience with sewing machines. After a couple years of use I finally broke my first part yesterday. The cable to lift the foot broke and I'm hoping getting a new cable will be easy with their customer service? I have no experience with them either. Sewing leather up to 5/8 is easy as can be.
  21. I made an mp3 player sheath using those clips, (both large and small clips) so I can just hook it to my penny pocket on my jeans. I use it mostly when im working around the boiler plant so I can relocate it on my body depending on my tasks. Sometimes on my hip pocket and sometimes on my front pocket. After only 3 months of use, my jeans started coming out of the laundry with frayed pockets. The clips are made from stamped steal and they have sharp edges so, beware to use Emory cloth to smooth them up. The phone holsters I made using clips hook to my belt and they chew up the leather too, but never had one pop off.
  22. Cutting the center out will be easy enough with a flush cut router bit. I used to have a huge cabinetry shop and the routers are the heart of every project I do. I can even use my worn out wood molds to build the new ones. I've cut lost of plex in the past but acrylic will be new to me. Surely it can't be harder than the micarta scales I've been Cutting can it?
  23. That's a good idea, I didn't think about e-bay. I found it, ordered a 2x4 foot sheet and will replace my old molds.
