New pistol, new holster
Thadrick replied to Thadrick's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Maybe thats what my eye is catching? Too big. Ill look at it more after I get off work. Might look better with a couple smaller conchos with the tassels. The tassels would get in the way of drawing the pistol though? Might just be stuck with rivets? Thanks for the fresh eye. -

Thanks guys, I'm curious if ya'll think the conchos should have been tucked a little closer to the bullet loops? -
New pistol, new holster

Thanks guys. It went faster than I usually get them done but I had fun with it. I got the holster done before I even sighted the pistol in. -

I've started using suede as a belt liner the last year or so. I've found that once you have it strapped on, it doesn't move around, your pants will fall down before the belt moves. That's very desirable when riding dirt bike and 4 wheelers. Probably horses too but I stay away from them now that I've determined that they always hurt me when they get a chance.

The holster is 8-9 veg tanned with a 3-4 veg tanned liner . I used English bridle dye on the holster liner because it was a close match to the 3-4 Oz suede leather I used on the back side of the belt. The belt is 8-9 veg tanned with suede liner. The belt loops are 3-4 veg tan. I'll get a picture of the back side but will take a while to get it reduced on my laptop enough to post here.

I like it! Criticism would be things that can still be finished. Maybe use a larger beveler? Die or paint the edges after that then slick? Stitch your liner closer to the edge? Looks a far sight better than my first.

I have a question though. How do you keep the pistol from sliding too deep into the holster, I build my welt so the frame or trigger guard of the pistol rests on it keeping the pistol positioned where I want it. It doesn't look like your using a welt?

Very nice!!

I wasn't going to respond but he directly poked at me with false statements. Even so much as quoted me. This is the second thread where he directly rebuked my statements about the topic. Maybe tell the preacher to stop stalking me and get his facts strait?

Nope your wrong, I just looked, the boss has a 1 year warranty on parts and service. I'm not two hours from anything, who cares, I wouldnt want to live in your world. new parts for the cowboy were on my doorstep in three days from my call to Ryan. Would think same time for the boss. Aluminum galls, cast iron doesn't. I'm man enough to pick them Both up. Neither of my machines use 415 thread. Both use 345 but the boss doest look as good. The cowboy has a longer arm for more work area. Both machines sew the same thickness leather, I know because I did it. Leather that didn't fit the cowboy also didn't fit the boss. Are you affiliated with tipmann? I have both, no dog in this fight. I like the cowboy better and it seems better designed and a lot more sturdy. Your the reason that I purchased this boss, you claimed it was superior to the cowboy. YOU ARE WRONG, and now I have spent my money on a machine that I feel is sub par to my original plan to pick up another cowboy. May God bless you too.

I have an outlaw and boss. The outlaw is worth the extra money hands down. It's cast iron and lifetime warranty, just call Ryan he'll get you fixed up quickly.

Cowboy outlaw sewing machine
Thadrick replied to Carriesleatherworks's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Everyone is so set on the boss I decided to try one. So far I've done several leather projects and I've sewn 112' of 4 duck canvas. The stitching looks the same as the outlaw but the pot metal sucks and the bobbin is smaller and more difficult to change out. I like the outlaw better even if it does cost an extra days wages. Just an amateurs prospective. If you decide to get a boss round the edges on the stainless table, it opened me up a couple times today and once yesterday. -
I've been looking around the net for sewing machine threads and needles but I'm not really finding anything too helpful. I'm guessing I'm using the wrong search names? Where are ya'll purchasing your leather threads and needles. I'm mostly looking for threads in the 277 and larger class.

The Ontario machete is made from 1075 and I've never bent one even after glancing blows. They sharpen very well and hold the edge a long time. I've thought about 1095 but would be afraid it might be too brittle unless it's built with a little more girth? More girth would be more weight or less length? Yeah, I've been spitballing the same idea myself. I guess I'll just have to dig out my forge and try it some day?

Yeah, I'm a machete maniac. Was showing a workmate my machete and he sneared and said he uses a chainsaw. I laughed and told him to load it up and we'll pack in five miles for seven days and see what he prefers. I've got chainsaws, axes, hatchets and, machete's. When it's time to hike, I'll take a machete every time although, I prefer 18 -22" depending on how much room I have to swing it.

I guess I'm not familiar with the term steam punk but I hope it's good. Lol Thanks for the compliments

Now I'm thinking that maybe a pouch for a file could be incorporated into it, might be a good idea also?

I know its been a while but I heard rumer that Ontario knives has folded so I wanted to build some nicer sheiths for my machete's. In my previous coments I mentioned my idea of putting a mole type of strap down the backside but then I thought I could put some belts down the length too? On a couple, I put a D ring top and bottom so I can use a sling as an option also? Im fairly happy with a couple of them but I think Im on the right track now? Maybe someone else might find this usefull or even take my ideas and expand on it.
