How do I achieve a light oil finish on my tack? I love the way it looks but have never been able to find a dye light enough to achieve the look I want. Any step by step pointers would be fantastic! I am also trying to find a place to buy thick leather to make 1 ply headstalls, breastcollars, etc. I have some light saddle skirting but it is just too thin and I have to make them two ply. Any suggestions on where to find good leather for this would be great. Of course as I am just starting out making tack, the smaller pieces I can find that still work are usually the cheapest so the better Thanks in advance! CW

Does anyone have a template for a dog harness? I just need a template with the calculations for adjusting sizes. I would like a normal harness for going on a walk no special uses. Yes I have tried looking at a normal harnesses and getting the measurements. I just wasn't happy with the outcome and don't know how to figure out sizing for other dogs. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Used No. 9 Luberto Harness Stitcher. This machine is in working order with no problems. It has been maintained properly. It comes with an operator's manual, needles, spool of thread, three bobbins, stand, motor, thread stand, stirrup plate, flat plate, thread snips and oil can. The bearings have been replaced within the last year. This machine has been my only machine that I have used in my custom saddle and tack shop and it can stitch through just about anything. Can be used on tarps, saddles, pads, etc. Please call with any questions. Jake 660-247-3256 Pick Up Only

Had a slow week a while back and decided; what the heck, my old paintball vest needed to be retired. Not having the money to buy one of those fancy deals all the young players are wearing, I decided to go old school and make a full leather harness for my Tippmann's Remote Line Setup. Here is the result. The rig is Western Steampunk style with Zombie Hunter motif. Features a large back piece with pouch for a 20 OZ CO2 tank. Hand tooled Zombie Hand on the pouch. Back piece is connected by four brass rings to the rest of the rig. Front of the rig has a small shield piece with hand tooled zombie skull. Underneath the shield is a large brass ring which bears the weight of the shoulder and side straps. Belt is made with an old saddle cinch and buckle. Rig is connected to belt with two dual brass tack rings on side. No attachment on front or back of belt to allow maximum movement on the field. Left shoulder piece features the lettering "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi chi'intrate" which is the line from the 3rd Canto of Dante's Inferno which translates as "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here". Right shoulder features the Latin phrase, "non omnis moriar" which in English translates as, "Not all of me shall die". While the philosopher was doubtlessly talking about the immortality of a man's soul, for the zombie hunter, the phrase takes on a slightly darker meaning. The entire rig is coated with a layer of silicone and mink oil to resist the staining effect of paintballs. And to answer the obvious questions: Yes I did take this out on the field, yes it works and yes I have the welts to prove it.

Hi again! Before I buy the wrong leather or something that is not appropriate I thought I would ask the experts. I want to add some harness belts to my shop that look sort of like this... http://www.freepeople.com/whats-new/leather-harness-belt/ http://gabrieladelavega.bigcartel.com/product/gary-graham-harness-belt What kind of leather should I buy? I was going to buy a 5 oz vegetable tanned calf side from water house leathers. I have a swatch of it and it feels like it wouldn't stretch. Also for a belt that needs to be a little more pliable to fit around the body like this one....what kind of leather? I make bags so belts are new to me and I don't want to spend a ton of money on the wrong leather! Thanks so much for everyones input... I love this site and wish I would have found it before I spent money experimenting because I didn't know who to ask!! http://pinterest.com/pin/111041947034488711/ Crystal www.locknkeyleathers.etsy.com

I first started dabbling in leather work two years ago when I decided to make some masks for Carnaval, and then last year I got more serious about it and started making jewelry and body pieces. I've lurked around and read posts here and there over the last year, so I thought it was high time to start posting some of my own pieces. And thank you all for the little nuggets of wisdom I gleaned. I'm starting to get a lot better, and I'm pretty proud of this piece. The attached pouch is the first ever one I've done, and it taught me a lot of lessons. I didn't have a pattern or tutorial, and it was an interesting experience. I now know that leather binding needs to be pretty wide, with a wider seam allowance than in standard fabric, and the more seams the better for flexibility. I'll probably end up redoing it.

So I'm a novice leatherworker, son of a pro who's been doing it for years and actually owns his own leather working business. I just recently purchased a Metro Arms American Classic II 1911 45.Cal, and absolutely HATE the cheap bulldog harness I bought for it. So I decided to dive in head first into making my own holster. I mainly open carry, but wanted something that would be prime for concealed carry when I do decide to get my CWP. The holster wont be finished and attatched until tomorrow, but I still wanted to share the harness =). Let me know what you guys think! I apologize for the poor quality photos.
