Hello guys, my name is Ivan, i`m new to the site and to work with leather, so i guess at the beginning i will ask a lot of questions... So far i been doing a few simple coasters and bookmarks for me and friends. Now i want to take it one step further and i would like to start adding designs to them, for example, something like this: Which options do i have? i think one option would be do a stamp with a 3D printer, but i don`t think it would be practical to do a new stamp for each thing i want to do or change Any ideas or links to tutorials to see where to start from will be welcomed Thanks. Hi I'm Mark from Floyd,Va. I'm a ups truck driver by trade, leather work as a hobby. I started doing leather work about 8 months ago because I eventually want to make handmade knives and want to he able to make my own knife sheaths. I made some Christmas presents for family members ( to practice on) Lol! I've posted a few below.

First post so if its been answered elsewhere, please forgive but I have searched without luck. I run a small one person business making wooden gifts which are laser-engraved or cut out on the laser. Sometimes they are engraved and then cut out. Currently I am making around about 5000 90mm dia circular coasters which are laser-engraved. There is a lot of work involved in making these , particularly with reference to the sanding, most of which is done by hand. I am struggling to keep up with the quantities required and I don't want to get into RSI in my hands. I do a fair amount of Welsh slate coasters and hope to increase the amount of these I sell. I am looking to buy in some 4mm veg tan leather coasters, 90mm in diameter or thereabouts. I bought some in from Tandy thinking the UK shop would be supplying them and was surprised to get an email telling me they were coming in from the US. They are 2.7mm thick which is too thin for my liking but will do for practice engraving. With Brexit/no Brexit on the horizon I would prefer not to have to import them Can anybody suggest a UK supplier who can sell me wholesale supplies of coasters. There is the possibility in the next year or two if the leather coasters take off I might buy a clicker press and start cutting them out myself and save a few quid that way. Many thanks Mike

Hey guys and gals! I’ve been thinking, and we know that’s a dangerous past time, right? Okay, so my friend is a coaster fiend. Coasters under everything... So what’s for Christmas? Coasters! But not just normal coasters, I’m choosing a series of thought bubbles from a book called “You Are Here” by Jenny Lawson. Great stuff. You should look into it. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you know the process by which you soak leather in wax to make it water proof-ish. Times, temperatures, stuff like that. Thank you!

So here's the playing card suit coasters in all their wobbly glory! I think it's pretty easy to tell which one I started with and which one I ended on, my stamping made progress as I developed a bit of technique. I loathe the number four, so I made a fifth coaster with all the suits on it, and managed to make a horrible looking club, but meh. The big version of the club turned out nicely so I'll take it. These were all carved/stamped on pre-dyed chestnut veg tanned scraps, it took some doing to get five coasters somewhat close to the same thickness. Several coats of watered down resolene went on them, and the edges were burnished (badly) with a felt wheel with my dremel knock-off. Looks better than when I started in any case.

Well finishing these. The flag one was a problem. paint did not set right. To much, so I scraped. The Eagle stays like it is. . Skulls still have work. Space down still does not work. The tings I did for the Cystic fibrous craft sale on sold 4 key fob's at 4.00 each. They set the price. Those where the ones with a Cross stamp. My sis say it was hard cause the parents ask if they wanted the fobs or Cup cakes. .Joe
