I'm coming along- wouldn't consider myself a newbie but far from a master. I've been punching size 207 and 277 pretty consistently through my Cobra C4 machine with good luck thus far. I am getting ready to put in an order with Weaver and want to make sure I get everything I need in order to take advantage of their best buy pricing and free shipping... it pays to put in those big quarterly orders. I have been purchasing Nylon thread by the pound from Weaver My question is... has anyone had luck with Tiger thread through 22/24/26 size needles? I don't currently use Tiger thread but have heard that it is really high quality. Can anyone attest to this? My concern is the "Lightly waxed" bit... will this gum up my rollers/ thread guides/ needle bar? What do I need to know- if anything- about this whole "Braided Polyester" business? Does is sew differently than Nylon? Would the size 207 nylon be size .5mm tiger? 277? Primarily, I am interested in the large availability of colors. I guess I should add- I make mainly tack so heavy/ thick stuff generally doulbled up HO Harness or Latigo but I have been making a lot of belts/ chaps etc and have been looking to invest in another machine more capable of handling the thinner/ softer oil tan/ chap sides. Any suggestions? I am weighing pros and cons of the Cobra C26 and Cobra C20. Thanks in advance.

Hello folks , here again with another one of my newbie situations: I love my thread , as we all do and well I'm a beginner so I don't use much right a tiny 25 yard spool would do me well for a good time, but as I began to actually do more work , make more things , I began to realize "hey , this won't do". And this constant buying of thread has been on and on.I like to buy Tandy's nylon waxed thread: https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/waxed-nylon-thread-25-yds-22-9-m And it's only 4 dollars, right so I'm not complaining or anything but I really feel I could do better for the long run , I know not all of you go and buy tiny 25 yard spools but yeah what's something I could do to not spend 16 dollars on 100 yards ? Also , today I bought some "Omega nylon #2 thread" thinking I could rub some beeswax on it and pass it off as waxed nylon thread , I tried it , and it didn't feel as good as Tandy's, maybe because the beeswax was homemade ? Also , the thread isn't made up of 3 little stands like Tandy's, it's only 2. Could I somehow make this work ? It's 275 yards. Thank y'all in advance

Is it possible to sew mil-spec nylon webbing to 10-12oz english bridle leather by hand? If so how do I go about it and what needles and thread would be best? I'm also looking into sewing machines, is a Cobra 4 too much for what I'm trying to do?

I almost embedded this post in another thread but I decided it should fly on its own merit as it is a question I have had for some time but I've seen no answers to it. It seems to be common knowledge that polyester thread is superior to nylon in outdoor environments due to its reduced sensitivity to ultraviolet light. Then I ask why most sewing threads I see available from our own vendors as well as others are strictly nylon? Does polyester thread not work in 441 clones like my Cobra Class 4 or other machines in general? If this is not the case, why do our vendors not seem to offer them and where can one purchase polyester threads made for sewing leather? Inquiring minds would like to know. Michelle

All else being equal (mainly string thickness), does it make sense to use something like B-50 dacron bowstring (assuming it's stronger) than go with say waxed cotton, cotton/nylon string to do your wrapping with? What properties other than strength should I look for in string for bullwhip construction?

Is there a well-recommended thread here on the board? I'm interested in Tiger Thread as Ian Atkinson of Leodis Leather recommends it, but I can't find a place to order it in the US. My project is a satchel, and I want at least 1 mm nylon thread, if not polyester for the strength. Thanks!

I appologize for starting another topic on a subject that seems to be discussed often. Ive been researching for days. Im having a heck of a time trying to figure out what kind of nylon thread to get and where to get it. I see waxed nylon thread everwhere but Im never certain on the size and whether it is right twist or not or whether it is good quality Currently, Im using Barbours linen in 4 and 5 cord. I want to give nylon a try and I need a thread the same size. I use the 4 cord linen the most so thats the ideal size. i guess I dont care if it is bonded nylon or waxed nylon, just that it is the correct size, in right twist, and of a good quality. Some people say that left twist is ok for handsewing but I bought my barbours in left twist and I think it tends to get twisted up so I definitely want to try right twist to see if it works better. Also, if i go with bonded nylon, can I dye it and wax it the same way i do with the linen? I also figured that size 277 would be a good size to get but not all sources for thread I find use this same sizing so i get confused If anybody can point me in a good direction, I appreciate it.
