Does anyone know anything about H.H. Schweitzer saddles out of Matador Texas? I have two saddles inherited from my great great grandfather and great grandfather. I know one was made for my great great grandfather, and don't know where the other one came from. I posted a few pictures, they aren't the best, but at least you can see what I'm talking about. If anyone has any info on the maker I would greatly appreciate it.

I am selling out my leather tools, patterns, and books. I'm wondering if there is a market for Craftools dating from 1949-1963. These would be the stamping tools marked Craftool Co with only a number, no alpha. I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the tools, patterns, and books I need to move. What do you look for when buying and how do I price what I've got. I'm seeing some of these tools listed for $12 each for the 49-63 vintage. Is that an enticing amount? It's the top of the iceburg of what I previously bought. I know the Barry King stamping tools will go for more. Do I need pictures of each tool and what they look like stamped?

Hello, I am a amateur worker for leather. I have restored a couple of sewing machines and recently I have started to restore an apparently very old Fortuna leather skyving. I am having some difficulty knowing how the lower drag mechanism works, because I have received the machine disassembled. I could upload some photos and I would appreciate it if you could help me.

Hello everyone! I am fairly new at leather craft. To this point I have made a few pouches, belts, journals and delved into leather carving - but I've always used veg-tan fresh leather. I found a brief case at a thrift store yesterday (covered in dust and quite lonely). I really liked the style of it, and would like to modify it (smaller mainly) into a handbag. So in taking on this challenge, I've run into some conundrums as aspected haha. As I mentioned I've never worked on old leather, and this leather does appear quite thirsty. But also appeared to be a moderate quality bag as far as machine made goes. It doesn't appear to have a thick finishing layer, the moment I spritzed some water on the bag the leather soaked it up. Photos below (first 3 original bag, last 2 since desconstruction). My main two questions (at this point) are: 1) glue...ideas on removal? The bag was originally partitioned into 2 compartments, I'd like 1 larger compartment for the handbag. So I basically just need to get rid of 1 strip of old glue down the middle. 2) cracking... I'd like to bend the leather in 1/2 where the "<=>" shaped leather pieces are positioned. On first inspection of the leather in the area I plan to bend, I noticed some cracking :/ (prior to me attempting to bend). Any thoughts on how I can prep this leather to accommodate bending/minimize further cracking? Thank you so much for any advice you can lend me in this endeavor!

Hi, two days ago i found near from my house an industrial singer machine that could be my next acquisition. when I went to see it the machine hasn't model mark and the serial number (MH 9112553) don't appears in the ismacs records. Next week I come back with some leather to try it, but I don`t know if I can move the stitch length and I wish see some manual instruction before the test. Someone could please let me kown wich model it is? If I purchase, my idea is use it for harness work. What do you think about? It could be fine? Thanks Merry Christmas for all of you

I just bought a 31-20 and its got the original motor by singer. No way this motor is still good for sewing? I mean it seems ok but no way. I also really am worried about the end of the motor that's open and just spins wildly. My cat is going to rip her leg off if I forget to put her up! I kind of dislike when I start to stitch it takes a while for the belt to engage because it slips too. So I need a new motor right? Also seems to have the original switch or what not. I've replaced the switch on my overlock just fine but I'm not sure what I'm going to run into replacing the switch box with this crazy old wiring! I have a LOVELY Wilcox and Gibbs 5 thread overlock it looks brand new and I got it for $400 also have a sailrite portable zig zag it's okay. I don't recommend anyone getting a sailrite portable zig zag save a few hundred bucks and buy the reliable. I bought this pos (but lovely looking machine) just because it had such a long arm and I needed more room for sewing canvas! I sew light leather on my sailrite fine but now I have a beautiful machine and table! i couldn't figure out the answer to my question from the older posts so please help! Also anything I can do to close off the spinning disc? Is light leather really okay for this machine? With the older motor and slippery belt? Thanks so much

Ok so Im working on a suit of leather armor and I have an old hide that is thin enough to use for a certain part of it. Only problem is this hide is old has a bit of mold and is a little stiff (it doesnt roll up really it sorta folds) but its not rock hard and still has give and pliability to it. What (if any) steps should i take to clean up the hide, get rid of the mold and get it a bit more flexible again? Thank you all for the info in advance!

I have to post this piece of art for a good friend Karen Conover in south central Va. She has no idea that this is being shown. She was handed one piece of black and gold material and asked to creat a piece of fiber art, and that she did, this beautiful Quilt / Wall Hanging sewing machine is amazing! I thought my friends on this board could appreciate it. What a talented artist this lady is... George Doyle Unionlevelleather.com

Hi folks. I'm new to leather work and just bought a job lot of old kit. Apart from the leather smelling musty (now in my freezer) can tandy dyes, stains and super sheen go off. Going by the paperwork in the box, the liquid stuff is at least 20 years old. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello from Germany I hope that I might find help here. I got a couple of old sewing machines from a saddlery resolution. Most of the machines I could identify. Just three of them i don´t know. -There's an old Adler, probably from 1930-1950? There is no label except: "Adler" + " Betema" serial number 159062" But "betema" is probably just an advertising sticker i guess. It is in good condition, photos are just slightly bad. I would like to build it up, but need a model number to search for parts and manuals. Maybe some of you have seen it before. -The second machine has unfortunately no names, probably of 1950-1960? And the third machine is probably a form of press / roller for leather belt? The mold can be heated and leather belt is pressed between two steel jaws in a form? I guess only. Name: Astor 24 Thank you for any tip
