Contributing Member fredk Posted November 9, 2022 Contributing Member Report Posted November 9, 2022 (edited) I got my 'Crocodile Dundee' inspired hat band made. Using antler tips because obtaining croc teeth or using them is illegal in N.I. The antler tips, 18 in total, were sorted in to almost-matching pairs in size & shape and put on with the smallest towards the rear with the longest at the front. Leather was a piece of scrap blackish-silvery 'snake-skin' imprinted laminated with some other scrap leather to thicken it up, The antler tips were drilled through and 2mm red lace threaded through them then through holes on the band either side of the antler tip to hold them tightly in place. It worked out that each hole was spaced at about 15 to 17mm I need to work on and do better on my joint at the rear; its just the lace through some holes in the band. it's ok but not real good Edited November 9, 2022 by fredk Quote

Members DwightT Posted November 10, 2022 Members Report Posted November 10, 2022 That looks awesome. Have to ask though how heavy it is. Seems like all those antler tips would add a fairly noticeable weight. /dwight Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted November 10, 2022 Author Contributing Member Report Posted November 10, 2022 An excellent question. I just weighed the hat band. It weighs in at 2 & 5/8 ounces, or 75 grams. Each antler tip is only a couple of grams weight Quote
Members DwightT Posted November 10, 2022 Members Report Posted November 10, 2022 That's not too bad then. I've had some hats where things like that added significant weight and by the end of the day my neck was screaming in pain from holding it all up. Regardless the hat stilllooks great. /dwight Quote
Members Handstitched Posted November 10, 2022 Members Report Posted November 10, 2022 Thats quite good, I like it You could use plastic substitute teeth? 18 hours ago, fredk said: Using antler tips because obtaining croc teeth or using them is illegal in N.I. Now that is interesting , C.I.T.E.S. ? New Zealand won't take croc products either.....or Cane toad leather products, as I have learnt . HS Quote
