Something different

Recommended Posts

I made knife sheath for a beautiful Damascus hand made blade and wanted to do something different

so I made the sheath able to attach to a belt 2 different ways

I added a holster clip to the sheath so it can clip on a belt

Then made a leather belt loop with snap The clip on the sheath can attach to a large ring  that acts as a swivel for the 8” blade546C28E3-E6E8-4063-AB33-77E250E37475.jpeg.102cf19d66f0a2759d7958eb36dbd129.jpeg

From what I understand

my Gun smiths brother in Houston makes Damascus blanks,  and sells them for $40 each.  His brother received this one. He makes knives also

he  (gunsmith)  profiled the blank and sharpened it

Here in Oz, you can send a piece of metal through the post without issue, its just a piece of metal , but when theres an edge on it , it becomes a knife . It would then have to be declared as a knife, or a weapon . Got that from a knife maker in my town who gets stuff made over east.  Stoopid rulz !!!

Not trying to get all political and us vs them

but WTH?  You guys can not have a blade sent to you ?

Man you guys need to stand up And kick over a few trash cans , get loud, and do it in numbers.  What is the reasoning behind that stupid law?

very cool pattern, they do that by drilling the layered barstock when its thick then as they forge it down thinner and flatten it the birds eye effect comes out. I'm working up my nerve to try and make some Damascus this year. Takes a lot of strong arm hammering if you don't have a machine.

I saw a really simple stamping machine

it is basically a big teeter totter

on one end is a 2’ section of RR track that is the stamp

long arm, offset fulcrum on the arm

sll you do is lift the arm and drop it. No weight

also have seen the same set up but a motor does the lifting via a chain  and a offset pulley on the “crankshaft” section

Frodo that is basically a drop hammer you're describing, as used in the very early days in factories and often driven via a waterwheel. The noise from them operating must have been deafening!

We won't get into the politics here but suffice to say when it comes to firearms, knives and even bows we are heavily constrained. In my State (South Australia) Airsoft toys are banned and gel blasters have to be registered with the police and you have to be licensed to own and use one. One guy even had to register a Nerf gun because he fired gel blaster pellets from it! I kid you not! If you carry a pocketknife and the police stop you for any reason you can be charged with carrying an offensive weapon. The chances of changing any of this is probably zero.

$40 for a damascus blank seems very cheap considering the work that goes into making one.

:17:Same here in the west.  We'll be needing a permit to fart next .

So love the appearance on the blade . Look forward to seeing the end result

That's a pretty nice blank.  Nice combo you have there for sure.  Are you making the handle?  Can't wait to see it.
